On the Moon God’s altar, the young Zhang Wenda was about to be pecked full of holes by the black crows. At that critical moment, a frigid chill swept over the battlefield, and any living thing touching Zhang Wenda was instantly coated in a layer of frost.
The black crows that Tang Xingxiong had become wanted to take Zhang Wenda’s life once and for all, but the birds seemed to be seized by some great fear. They flew completely out of her control, scattering in every direction.
The sky above the moon dissolved into a pitch-black chasm. A giant, withered hand covered in tattooed incantations emerged from the void, pressing down toward the murder of crows below.
Kopan had arrived. He was here to claim his sacrifice.
Although Tang Xingxiong was reluctant to let him go, Zhang Wenda being taken by Kopan was as good as a death sentence. She stopped interfering, commanding her black crows to quickly dodge aside as she watched the giant hand reach for Zhang Wenda, who was as limp as a ragdoll.
In the distance, Hu Maomao pulled out a flashlight. He was about to shoot a beam of yellow light to counteract Kopan’s influence, but the black crows immediately blocked him.
Everyone could only watch helplessly as the giant hand grabbed Zhang Wenda and began to lift him slowly upward. There was nothing they could do.
Just as he was about to be taken away by Kopan, completely out of options, Zhang Wenda looked at the massive hand, trembling. He endured the bone-chilling cold and said, "If I were you, I wouldn’t take me like this. You can only take my empty shell. My soul has already been offered to the Moon God."
As he spoke, everyone looked toward the flickering spark on the altar. It was Zhang Wenda’s soul.
The great hand in the sky stopped and began to descend slowly. In that brief window, Zhang Wenda pressed his trembling hands against the massive thumb.
As he activated the number six Qi Gong that came from the rabbit, all the wounds on his body closed rapidly. Then, all his injuries fused into a single massive gash that transferred to Kopan’s thumb, slicing it clean off.
Without the thumb to hold him, Zhang Wenda escaped Kopan’s grasp and fell powerlessly downward.
Tang Xingxiong was about to launch a sneak attack, but Song Jianguo, wearing a paraglider, had already caught Zhang Wenda first.
Her furry, black fan-wings rapidly wrapped into a ball, enveloping Zhang Wenda inside as it rolled quickly away from the battlefield.
Watching the black ball rapidly rolling away, both Kopan and Tang Xingxiong were enraged and gave chase.
A chase across the bright surface of the moon began. In the lead was the black ball formed by Black Cat, followed by the giant, spider-like hand and a sky filled with black crows.
The black ball rolled down a slope, was thrown high into the air, and shot forward with even greater speed.
Just as the chase faded into the distance, a trembling Zhang Wenda crawled out of a crevice in the crater, anxiously watching the dust recede.
He wanted to get up, but his body was completely numb, as if he were in an icehouse.
Just then, Hu Maomao arrived at his side and raised the flashlight, quickly suppressing Kopan’s influence on him. "How are you here?"
"Jianguo was trying to save me. She hid me here. She knows that letting them chase her is a dead end!"
As feeling returned to his limbs, Zhang Wenda started to rush over to save Song Jianguo but stopped himself cold.
He knew that in his current condition, he would just be another person for Tang Xingxiong to chase. The distance was too great. ’I have to find help!’
"Go help Jianguo! I’m going to the altar to break the curse! I’ll meet up with you guys as soon as I’m finished!"
"We can’t deal with Tang Xingxiong. The three of us are no match for her."
"Trust me. Listen to me! I have a way to deal with her! I have a way to make sure Tang Xingxiong stays here for good!" Zhang Wenda said, staring into Hu Maomao’s eyes with conviction.
Hu Maomao gave him a look. "Are you sure? What’s the plan? We don’t have time for emotional outbursts."
"I’m really not being emotional! I’m not blinded by hatred, either! Trust me one time! Just once!" Zhang Wenda said, his voice deadly serious.
"I hope you mean what you say. Otherwise, we’re all going to die here." After saying this, Hu Maomao chased off in the direction Song Jianguo and the others had gone.
Seeing him leave, Zhang Wenda wasted no time and hurried toward the altar.
"Why are you back? What’s going on?" Ahava stared at Zhang Wenda, his face full of shock.
"Quick! Perform the ritual again! The faster, the better! This time, I guarantee no one is an imposter!" With no time to explain, Zhang Wenda dragged him onto the altar.
They scrambled onto the altar. Zhang Wenda’s soul was still there, only now it seemed much dimmer.
At Zhang Wenda’s urging, Ahava quickly began the ritual again, and purple smoke began to rise.
Zhang Wenda paced back and forth on the altar, waiting anxiously, his mind filled with every possible terrible outcome.
Perhaps because it had been performed once already, the ritual was much faster this time. However, when the sharp sound of the serpent whistle ended, nothing happened.
"What’s happening? You’re dropping the ball now?!" Seeing this, Zhang Wenda looked like he was ready to eat Ahava alive.
"This shouldn’t be happening! This is exactly how the ritual is performed!"
Ahava performed the worship ceremony again. To rule out the possibility that it was failing because Zhang Wenda was a non-believer, he performed it with himself as the principal subject. Still, there was no result. The so-called Ishchel showed no sign of appearing.
"Why! Why won’t you come out!" With a furious swing, Zhang Wenda’s sharp scythe sliced the altar in half.
"Don’t! Stop! That’s blasphemy! You’ll face divine retribution!" Ahava hurriedly tried to stop him.
"Blasphemy!? Tang Xingxiong was just impersonating her! Why isn’t she facing retribution!" Zhang Wenda’s eyes were wide with fury, but just as he finished speaking, he froze.
He looked around again at the simple yet magnificent altar, and something clicked in his mind. He seemed to realize something. "You just said that when one speaks on the altar, the deity can hear?"
"Yes! This is her altar!"
"Then that settles it!" With a flicker of movement, Zhang Wenda raised his scythe and began to carve recklessly all over the altar.
"Stop! Don’t! The Moon God won’t let you get away with this!" Ahava tried to stop him, but it was useless.
When Zhang Wenda stopped, the entire altar of Ishchel was carved beyond recognition. As he looked upon his handiwork, he grew increasingly calm.
"You’ve been here the whole time, haven’t you? Ishchel? Moon God," Zhang Wenda said abruptly, speaking to the bright sky.
"A trivial matter like a plane crash can be easily sensed by the Feathered Serpent God from far within the clouds. I refuse to believe you couldn’t sense me wreaking havoc on your altar on the moon, or Tang Xingxiong impersonating you right here."
"What are you hiding from? Or what are you afraid of?! Are you afraid of the Big Circle? If you fear the Big Circle, then shouldn’t you fear our Third Line?!"
When Zhang Wenda finished speaking, everything around them began to glitter with silver light. At last, the Moon God appeared before Zhang Wenda, looking exactly as Tang Xingxiong had when she impersonated her.
"Please leave, outlander from afar. Do not bring strife and chaos to this peaceful continent."
The being was so divine, yet there was not a trace of fear in Zhang Wenda’s eyes. He pointed a finger at her and said with conviction, "I was right. You’re not nearly as powerful as the legends say. When faced with a powerful organization, you also have to size up the situation! You’re also just trying to play both sides!!"
