"Here, have some water. Calm down. This is normal for a first-timer." A bottle of Rao Mountain Snake White Water was once again handed to the panting Zhang Wenda.

Zhang Wenda twisted open the cap and took a big gulp. The strange taste jolted his muddled mind, and he finally felt his body reluctantly return to his control.

"COUGH! COUGH-COUGH!" Zhang Wenda coughed a few times, his expression pained. He looked up at Ouyang Shuangdian, his face pale.

As he gradually broke free from that state, her head slowly turned transparent and vanished before his eyes.

"What just happened to me? I think... I saw some things that are hard to describe."

Zhang Wenda tried to put his experience into words, but found he was completely unable to.

"Don’t ask me. I’ve never drunk it, and I’ve never trained with it. I have no idea what kind of reaction it causes. This stuff is just weird; no one can predict what they’ll experience."

At this point, Ouyang Shuangdian added, "But with high risk comes high reward. If you really succeed on this path, you’ll have a bright future, young man."

As she spoke, she reached out and patted Zhang Wenda’s shoulder, as if showing great appreciation for him.

Zhang Wenda swallowed hard and asked again, "So... what am I supposed to do? Keep entering all sorts of hallucinations and then pulling myself out? Will my power surpass Qianxi’s then? What exactly is this supposed to be strengthening?"

"No, no, no. Didn’t I tell you? This is just the beginner’s trial. If you’re really going to walk this path, you need a guide. You’re exhausted today, so go home and rest. Tomorrow, that guide will tell you how to walk this thorny road."

Even if she hadn’t said anything, Zhang Wenda was already planning to go home and rest. The experience was utterly draining; it felt as if his very soul had been sucked out of his body.

"Thanks, I’m leaving." Just as Zhang Wenda stood up, he suddenly looked at his arm and made a new discovery. The three lines that were originally parallel had inexplicably started to intertwine.

This was clearly the effect of the liquid he had just drunk. After experiencing those chaotic hallucinations, his Tri-Core seemed to have undergone some kind of wondrous change.

As for what exactly had happened to his body, he would have to ask the so-called guide tomorrow. Right now, he just wanted to rest. His body was simply too tired.

Zhang Wenda was about to stand and walk to the door when he suddenly thought of something and turned to look at her. "By the way, what’s my cousin’s name? And her phone number?"

"Wang Xiaohua. I’ve sent the number to your phone."

’She doesn’t even share our uncle’s surname? Looks like their relationship is even stiffer than I thought.’ With a headache brewing, Zhang Wenda muttered this as he walked out of the office.

He barely managed to stay on his feet on the way back. He didn’t know how he even got home; all he remembered was his body hitting the bed, and in the next second, he completely lost consciousness.

As he sank into a deep sleep, Zhang Wenda seemed to re-enter those chaotic hallucinations. It felt like he experienced a great many things, yet he couldn’t remember any of them.

"Haozi, Haozi, wake up!" Zhang Wenda was woken by Song Jianguo, who was sitting on his chest.

"Are you hurt? Where did you go yesterday?" Song Jianguo asked in surprise, pointing at the singed rabbit fur.

"I’m fine. How long was I asleep?" Zhang Wenda lifted Song Jianguo off him with both hands, setting her aside, and climbed out of bed.

After a long sleep, the feeling of being completely drained was still there, but it was much better.

’Whatever that "No. 2" is, it definitely takes a huge toll on one’s energy.’

"You’ve been asleep for twelve hours. If you weren’t breathing, I would’ve thought you were dead." Song Jianguo picked up a container of shredded pork with green peppers over rice and handed it to Zhang Wenda.

"Thanks." Zhang Wenda took it and started wolfing it down. After a few mouthfuls, it belatedly dawned on him, and he looked at Song Jianguo. "Don’t you have any money? Where’d you buy this?"

"I didn’t buy it. I went straight to Maomao’s place and took it. She wasn’t happy about it. So stingy."

Zhang Wenda thought for a moment and transferred 5,000 directly to her phone. "Here’s a two-month advance on your salary. Use it to buy food for the cats."

"The cats don’t need it. The ocean is right there; they can turn into fishhooks and catch their own food. By the way, you still haven’t told me where you went yesterday."

"Don’t even ask. It’s not that I can’t explain it to you, I don’t even understand what happened myself." Zhang Wenda picked up his chopsticks and shoveled the food into his mouth.

"Are you getting into a fight? Ask me! I’ll help you!" Song Jianguo’s eyes lit up as she said this.

"I don’t need it. Just don’t cause any trouble for me. Stay here quietly and don’t get into mischief, that’s better than anything."

Song Jianguo bristled with displeasure and began to mutter unhappily.

"I don’t want to be here anymore. Everything is upside down, there’s nowhere to even land when you go out. It’s not fun at all, and we can’t go anywhere. I want to go back."

"I want to go back too. But we can’t. We’ve grown up, you understand?"

Zhang Wenda’s serious words made Song Jianguo pause. For once, she didn’t talk back, and her cat ears drooped inexplicably.

After Zhang Wenda finished eating, he glanced at the silent Song Jianguo and reached out to stroke her cat ears.

"Give me some time. Once I’ve sorted my own stuff out, I’ll definitely help you find your memories. I promise."

Song Jianguo shook her head, her expression growing downcast. "I don’t actually care that much about having past memories. I just feel like things aren’t as fun as they used to be. I really want to go back..."

As she finished speaking, a chain silently materialized around Song Jianguo’s left ankle.

Zhang Wenda glanced down, then looked at his own ankle. He had three chains as well, but he seemed to have grown so used to them that he had no idea when they had appeared.

Zhang Wenda opened his mouth, but he didn’t know what to say. He just opened his arms and gently hugged her in comfort.

Song Jianguo, in a rare display, nuzzled her head forcefully against Zhang Wenda’s fur. "Am I too weak? Am I not much help to you?"

"Not at all. You’re very strong. It’s just not your time to shine yet. If you’re bored staying here, you can help me with something."

Zhang Wenda took the mangled Wai Mushroom out of his pocket and handed it to her. "Bury this in the dirt, sing to it, and make it grow back properly."

After saying this, Zhang Wenda immediately ended the conversation and hurried out of his residence.

’Raise a mushroom for him? Not even a dog would do that!’

Watching the door close, Song Jianguo forcefully slammed the mushroom onto the ground and stood up again.

"Let’s go! We’ll follow him secretly! Let’s see what he’s really up to!"
