’What is this thing? Why is it in my Spiritual World?’ Zhang Wenda watched in terror as the thought-form before him writhed and expanded, sensing that something was terribly wrong.
’This is supposed to be my Spiritual World. But why is something like this here? It doesn’t look like a thought at all.’
’Have I gone mad from my training? Did that blind man trick me?!’ Just as this new thought-form emerged beside Zhang Wenda, the patch of red charged straight at him.
Zhang Wenda dodged quickly, but one or two wisps of thread drifted down from the red thought-form and effortlessly sliced through his arm. Just like that, his right hand was severed.
The pain that followed was immediate, and in terms of sensation, it felt even more real than reality.
"What’s going on? What the hell is this thing?" Zhang Wenda snatched his severed arm from the ground and retreated, but the red thing pursued him relentlessly.
He tentatively began to fight back, but the more he attacked, the stronger and larger his opponent became.
’If... if it kills me in the Spiritual World, what will happen to me in the real world?’ A pitch-black thought-form slowly materialized to the left of the battlefield.
In this chaotic world, Zhang Wenda grappled with his foe. He tried shouting for the blind man to help, but there was no response.
Left with no choice, Zhang Wenda began to fight back with everything he had, attacking from all angles in an attempt to find the creature’s weakness.
RIP! Another thread silently sliced across Zhang Wenda’s arm.
Suddenly, Zhang Wenda stopped. He understood now. This thought-form *was* his own actions. By now, his severed arm had been hacked into three pieces, the damage reaching all the way to his shoulder. A red gas began to seep out from within.
Under the relentless assault, Zhang Wenda watched the red thought-form grow larger and more powerful. Its various threads swelled and intertwined, gradually coalescing into a vague, red, humanoid shape.
The figure flickered and lunged. A spear formed from a dense mass of red threads pierced straight through Zhang Wenda’s chest.
In that instant, Zhang Wenda felt as if his body had been chiseled open by a block of ice. Every heartbeat slammed against a cold blade, and each breath was like inhaling shards of glass that hissed in his lungs. The world faded to black and white, the only vivid color being that of the searing pain.
As the wound appeared, thought-forms of pure pain erupted all around him.
"Fuck!" The agony made Zhang Wenda snap. Driven by a primal urge to trade his life for his enemy’s, he raised his one remaining arm and plunged it fiercely into his opponent’s chest. "Die! Die!!"
In response to Zhang Wenda’s attack, the red thought-form swelled instantly. The red threads expanded once more, and the vague humanoid figure fully materialized, transforming into a giant, scythe-wielding monster several stories tall.
The moment the monster before him raised its right claw and hoisted him into the air, a flash of insight struck Zhang Wenda. He suddenly understood.
’This thing isn’t some external enemy, and I haven’t gone mad. This red... it’s the very concept of my desire to attack! It’s the act of aggression itself.’
’The more I want to attack it, the stronger it becomes.’
’You can’t defeat aggression with more aggression. The Spiritual World is different from the real world. I’ve been on the wrong path from the very beginning.’
Having understood this, Zhang Wenda stopped observing his surroundings. He slowly closed his eyes, no longer reacting, no longer thinking about his enemy. He slowly and completely erased the very idea of fighting back from his mind.
Gradually, Zhang Wenda forgot about attacking. He forgot about the pain.
When Zhang Wenda forgot the pain, his body no longer hurt. When he forgot about attacking, the attacks against him ceased.
When Zhang Wenda forgot everything, all thoughts vanished from his mind. At last, his heart found true peace.
An unknown amount of time passed. When a tranquil Zhang Wenda slowly opened his eyes again, he saw the Soviet’s impassive face.
"Did I do it? Did I successfully take the first step?"
"Yes, you did it. Remember this feeling. It is what you need most."
Seeing the other man nod in satisfaction, Zhang Wenda couldn’t help but excitedly raise his right hand and clench it into a tight fist before him.
At that moment, Zhang Wenda was surprised to discover that his Tri-Core had grown. This time, however, it wasn’t the Red Core that had expanded, but the Blue Core.
Apparently, this so-called Meditation could also grow his Blue Core. This, too, was an unseen way of increasing his own power.
He was only at the beginning of this path, and it had already boosted his power considerably.
"What’s next? What should I do now?" Zhang Wenda was already impatient. If there were benefits like this right at the start, he couldn’t wait to see what else he could gain.
"Do not be hasty. More haste, less speed. You need to continue training to master this feeling." The Soviet slowly knelt down again and calmly closed his eyes.
"Then how do I enter the Spiritual World to train?" Zhang Wenda asked again.
"You don’t need to. You need to train at every moment, in life and at work. You must always be on the path of advancement."
"At every moment? How do I do that?"
"Observe your original mind." The Soviet slowly raised a finger.
"When you feel your thoughts are too numerous, recall what you just did. Visualize your red in your mind, and use it to crush all other stray thoughts."
The man was very patient, explaining a great deal to Zhang Wenda, who gradually came to understand his next task.
’So as long as I keep training, I can master my own thoughts?’ The moment this idea surfaced, the red, scythe-wielding monster abruptly appeared in Zhang Wenda’s mind, pouncing on the thought and crushing it instantly.
Finally, under Zhang Wenda’s control, the scythe-wielding monster in his mind gradually dissipated. The process was a bit complicated, but in the end, Zhang Wenda learned how to do it.
He wasn’t sure if it was his imagination, but Zhang Wenda felt his Blue Core had grown a little more. It seemed this training was also a way to increase his Blue Core.
"Go. Go back and practice. When the time comes that when you eat, your mind is filled only with the thought of eating, and when you sleep, your mind is filled only with the thought of sleeping, we will proceed to the next step."
"Understood!" Zhang Wenda stood up and prepared to leave.
As he reached the doorway, he turned to look back at the scalped white man. "How should I address you? May I call you Teacher?"
The blind Soviet neither nodded nor replied, merely remaining knelt in place, as still as a statue.
