As the giant, multi-story earthen palm descended upon Zhang Wenda, he unhesitatingly threw all his strength into dodging to the left.
’Faster! Faster!’ Zhang Wenda, moving like a whirlwind, barely scraped past the massive thumb and escaped the attack’s range.
Amidst a ground-shaking tremor, the giant hand slammed down. Ashen dust billowed out in all directions. Now, Zhang Wenda finally understood what had caused the temple to collapse earlier.
Though he had dodged the attack for now, Zhang Wenda didn’t dare stop. He ran for several hundred meters before finally halting, his heart still pounding as he stared at the dust cloud in the distance.
’That was too close.’ He never imagined that what had previously been just an afterimage could become so real.
Just then, the ground suddenly shifted. When Zhang Wenda looked down, he saw thick fingers bursting from the soil all around him.
The very ground Zhang Wenda stood on abruptly rose, forming the palm of a giant hand. The two of them, having just escaped, were once again caught in their foe’s trap.
"Xiaozhang! Your time is up!"
Accompanied by the horrifying, grinding sound of earth, the five colossal fingers surrounding them snapped shut, trapping Zhang Wenda and Song Jianguo firmly in their grasp.
As the fingers gradually tightened, Zhang Wenda could even hear the sound of bones snapping.
Just as they were about to be crushed, Zhang Wenda suddenly felt his white-pupil tattoo grow warm. In the next instant, the impossibly thick fingers abruptly became half as thick.
’Now!’ Zhang Wenda instantly transferred the fractures from his and Song Jianguo’s bodies to the fingers of the giant hand. As the thinned fingers twisted and deformed, the two of them broke free.
The moment he was free, Zhang Wenda switched from defense to offense. He charged at the infant at top speed. ’Attacking the giant hand is useless. I have to go for the king to catch the thieves! If this thing doesn’t die, it doesn’t matter how many giant hands I defeat.’
Seeing Zhang Wenda closing in, the creature tossed aside its cane and immediately raised its hands, preparing to plunge them forcefully into the earth.
But just then, a beam of blue light shot from Zhang Wenda’s hand, freezing the creature in place.
"Go on, try it now!" With a violent shake of his flashlight, Zhang Wenda flung the creature against a wall. The impact left it dazed and dizzy, coughing up blood nonstop.
As the creature struggled to its feet, it saw a pair of rabbit’s feet standing before it. Looking up in astonishment, it saw Zhang Wenda raising a sharp scythe.
Just as Zhang Wenda’s scythe sliced through the creature’s crimson skin, about to cleave it in two, a startled cry rang out from the left. "Release the Earth God!"
In the next second, Zhang Wenda’s attack hit nothing. With a feeling like punching cotton, he saw that the infant called the Earth God had vanished.
Zhang Wenda slowly raised his head, looking toward the source of the voice. He then saw a horde of Little Immortals emerging from a side door.
Among them were hairless young beasts in Daoist Robes, Little Bodhisattvas, and Little Buddhas. All told, there were at least several dozen Little Immortals.
Seeing the variety and sheer number of these deities, Zhang Wenda’s heart sank. ’This is bad. The Earth God alone was this hard to deal with, and now there are so many of them.’
"Xiaozhang, you’ve finally arrived. We have waited for you for so very long," a Little Bodhisattva holding a Jade Bottle said, gazing compassionately at Zhang Wenda in the distance.
Her body was tiny, her skin nearly transparent.
Hearing this, a thought stirred in Zhang Wenda’s mind. ’I noticed this before. Both the Earth God and the Little Immortals seem to be mistaking me for my grandfather.’
’I don’t know if these immortals have face blindness, or if their eyes can only identify people by bloodline.’
Seizing on this strange quirk, Zhang Wenda decided to see if he could use it to his advantage.
"You’ve disappointed me greatly, to think you would cooperate with the Big Circle." As Zhang Wenda spoke, his mind raced, trying to figure out his next move.
"We disappointed you? Have you ever considered how long you’ve made us wait!" all the Little Immortals roared, glaring at Zhang Wenda.
"Hey, stop provoking them! There’s no way we can fight this many!"
Song Jianguo whispered nervously from right behind Zhang Wenda. He had his head completely hidden inside his cat-themed armor, with only a single cat ear poking out.
"I know that, you don’t have to tell me. I’m stalling for time," Zhang Wenda muttered, shielding Song Jianguo behind him. He then shouted over to the crowd, "It’s my fault I’m late! How about we all sit down and talk this over?"
The Little Bodhisattva, however, slowly shook her head, her eyes blazing with fury. "No. It is far too late for that. Why should we be content with merely living? We want more! We want to be revered by the masses, just like those gods in other countries! We deserve to be worshipped by all!"
The moment the Bodhisattva finished speaking, a Celestial King holding an umbrella flew up into the tunnel where Zhang Wenda and Song Jianguo had entered. As he opened the giant umbrella, its surface, intricately carved with dragons and painted with phoenixes, rapidly expanded to cover the entire ceiling, cutting off their escape route.
The instant the umbrella opened, all the Immortals swarmed toward the pair, some flying, some floating. The various Immortal Spiritual Artifacts in their hands whirled through the air.
"Oh, crap! We’re screwed! We’re so screwed!" Song Jianguo yelled in despair, raising his Cat Shield to protect both himself and Zhang Wenda.
"What’s there to be afraid of? It’s not like we haven’t seen worse than this!" Zhang Wenda retorted, pulling out the Double Fish Jade Pendant and commanding Wai in the air to frantically replicate him.
Just as the situation became critical, a Rainbow Gate suddenly appeared on the left wall.
Zhang Wenda watched as Shuisheng emerged, a flashlight in each hand and a third clenched between his teeth. His team followed close behind him.
Seeing them, Zhang Wenda’s eyes lit up. "Over here!" he yelled. "They’ve all come out to play! Every last one of them is here!"
Shuisheng took in the scene and, without a moment’s hesitation, led his team to help. The entire cavern erupted into chaos.
Zhang Wenda, moving so fast he was just a blur, used the chaos to launch relentless attacks, all while continuously transferring his allies’ injuries onto their enemies.
In the midst of the chaos, Zhang Wenda witnessed Shuisheng’s true power. His three flashlights each emitted a different colored light, sometimes coordinating, sometimes flashing rapidly, unleashing a series of swift Spectral Techniques.
When all three flashlights shot out red laser beams and began to spin, he transformed into a crimson whirlwind on the battlefield, leaving a trail of severed limbs in his wake.
