Infinite Rebate System: Beautiful Women And Endless Returns
Chapter 4: sightseeingThe moment Mrs. Adeyemi walked out Xavier was already moving.
The Arts faculty building sat directly across the main courtyard, a wide open space that at 10AM was already filling fast with students spilling out of morning lectures.
Xavier crossed his legs with his hands in his pockets and leaned on a nearby pillar scanning around for her without being obvious about it.
University social hierarchies, he thought, are just high school ones with bigger egos and less supervision.
He could already read the courtyard like a map. The loud clusters near the fountain are second or third years marking territory for the freshers to observe. The quiet bench crowd with their laptops and earphones who had already decided socialising was beneath them. The group near the vending machines were neither popular nor invisible, just existing comfortably in the middle.
And then near the Arts building entrance was Sarah.
She was with two girls Xavier couldn’t recognise although it’s natural he didn’t know her until during her fourth year. One was short with natural hair and a loud laugh, the other tall and slim, scrolling her phone with the detached energy of someone who considered herself above wherever she currently was high egos indeed.
Sarah stood between them like she’d been placed there by a photographer. Even in the standard university casual wear fitted jeans, a cropped white top, hair pulled half back she commanded the space around her without trying. Heads turned. She knew it. She’d always known it.
Eighteen years old and already perfecting the performance, Xavier thought. Six years from now you’ll use that same face to destroy a man who loved you. But right now you don’t even know I exist.
He didn’t approach. Not yet.
He reached into his pocket out of habit, opened the rebate system interface to log a vending machine purchase then stopped.
Right.
The daily cap. He’d hit it clean during Mrs. Adeyemi’s lecture. Every donation from this point until midnight was coming out of his pocket with nothing coming back.
He bought the water anyway. $2 gone. Just $2.
Oh fuck, he thought, watching the transaction complete with no system notification following it. I’ve actually burned through this stupid limit already. On donations.
He stared at the vending machine for a moment with the expression of a man reconsidering his morning choices.
To be fair, $10,000 returned before 10AM is not a complaint. But still. He cracked the bottle open and took a long sip. This cap is going to be the most annoying thing about this system. I need that tier upgrade and I need it to come with something more promising than a $10,000 ceiling.
He leaned against the wall and looked out at the courtyard.
Midnight reset. Fine. Tomorrow I plan better.
[ REBATE SYSTEM ]

[ Net Balance: $10,520.00 → $10,518.00 ]
Sarah was animated, gesturing with her hands as she talked, her two friends leaning in and reacting like she was the most entertaining thing in the courtyard.
And she probably was. That was the thing about Sarah Torres that Xavier had never been able to fully hate even in his previous life she was genuinely magnetic. The kind of person who made you feel like the room got brighter when she walked in.
The problem was she knew exactly what that was worth. And she charged accordingly.
What’s your angle this time around, Sarah? he thought, watching her scan the courtyard absently between sentences. What’s the play for year one? Find the richest guy in the faculty? String along two or three before settling? Same script, younger cast?
Her eyes swept the courtyard.
For exactly half a second they landed on Xavier.
Then moved on without registering him.
Yeah. He took a sip of water. That’s fine. You’ll know my name soon enough.
He was still watching when he heard footsteps beside him.
"You left before I could finish what I was saying," she said, with the tone of someone who had decided to be unbothered by being ignored.
"I was busy," Xavier said flatly as he looked back.
"I know — I could see that. You were on your phone the whole time." She pushed her glasses up. "I peeked. You were donating to organisations."
Xavier looked at her sideways. "You were watching my screen?."
"You were sitting right next to me." She said it without apology. "Also you know Mrs. Adeyemi announced the group project three times during class right? While you were donating."
I wasn’t aware of any group project. Xavier thought about it for half a second. But then again I literally just reincarnated. Can’t exactly say that out loud. Dumbass.
"Not that I care," he said out loud.
"Well you should," Amira said. "It’s a mandatory first year requirement. Every student joins a registered faculty group before the end of week two. The groups that perform best at the semester exhibition get recognised by the university board." She shifted the textbook under her arm. "I’ve already been placed in one. Four people including me. The other three are — not exactly motivated."
"So you’re carrying the group."
"I’m carrying the group," she confirmed.
"But that’s not even the main issue. The project needs a startup budget — materials, research access, presentation costs. The university base grant is $200 but we actually need closer to $800."
Xavier looked at her. "Aren’t your parents supposed to be the first people you ask for that kind of thing?"
Amira’s expression didn’t waver. "I want to be independent."
Fair enough."What’s the project?" he asked.
"Nutritional supplement development. Low cost, high yield proteins for rural communities. I designed the concept myself. Without proper funding we’ll end up presenting a PowerPoint with stock images and get buried in the rankings."
"Group members?"
"Marcus handles presentation — fine when he shows up. Diana is solid on research but already talking about dropping the course." She paused. "And then there’s Femi."
"What about Femi."
"Femi told me this morning he’d only participate if I agreed to tutor him privately. At his apartment."
Xavier looked at her directly for the first time since she’d walked up.
Amira met it with the quiet dignity of someone who was angry but had chosen to handle it cleanly.
"I told him no," she said simply.
Of course she did.
"You seem like someone who knows how to handle things," Amira continued. "And clearly you’re not broke. I’m not asking for charity — I’m asking for a business arrangement. You cover the $600 shortfall, I bring you in as silent partner, your name goes on whatever recognition comes out of the exhibition."
Fair enough ATP school isn’t really my thing. He looked back at the courtyard. And I’m somehow in benefit on this arrangement either way.
"What’s the board grant for first place?" he asked.
"$15,000."
Xavier crushed his empty water bottle slightly in his hand. "Deal."
Amira blinked. "Just like that?"
"Just like that. Send me the full budget breakdown tonight, I’ll transfer the shortfall tomorrow morning." He held out his hand for her phone, typed his number in, handed it back. "And the grant money — keep it. I just want my name on the project."
She stared at him. "You’re giving up your percentage?"
"I don’t need it." He picked up his bag.
Moreover I’ll prolly make more soonest let’s have some leverage now shall we.
"What I said still stands though — the Femi situation. Does he know you’re looking for alternative funding?"
"No."
"Keep it that way. Let him think you’re still considering. When the project wins and your name sits next to mine on the board recognition his leverage evaporates on its own."
Amira was quiet for a moment.
"You’ve really only been here two hours," she said slowly.
"Dunno what that’s got to do with anything." Xavier turned toward the Arts building. "I’ll hear from you tonight."
He left her standing there — textbook under arm, glasses slightly crooked, expression sitting somewhere between impressed and genuinely unsettled.
"What a gentleman smhhh.."
Good, he thought. Let her wonder an expression that was somewhere between impressed and mildly unsettled.
