*Anos's POV*
"Hey Hermione, wait a sec!" I said catching up to her before she exited the library.
Lunch had taken a tad more time than I had otherwise expected so I had to rush to the library to catch up to her as she was leaving.
"Shh! Not so loud." She said panicking and looking around to see if someone had been disturbed.
"Come on, we're not even in the library anymore. I doubt anyone would be too inconvenienced if I spoke at normal volume." I said exasperated.
"Well you can't know that." She whispered back before starting to walk and I hurried to catch up to her.
"Fair enough. So, you done with the Magical Theory work?" I asked, noticing the books in her hand.
"Well I need to write half a parchment more but for the most part yes. It's much easier to be done with all of it since Professor Zephyr informed us 2 weeks before it's expected." She said, sounding genuinely pleased with her work, which was a rare enough occurrence.
"Kinda wish that Professor Binns would allow the same courtesy, but instead I have to stay up all night to finish two Parchments on 'Fools Gold' and then hurriedly wake up Harriet and Draco before dawn to help them with theirs." I said, sighing dramatically at the end as we turned corners towards the courtyard.
"Well you don't sleep anyways do you?" She asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Well yes but isn't it fun to complain for the sake of it?" I said grinning and she simply shook her head while smiling slightly.
"I would have told you to be more serious but you are great at almost all subjects except Transfiguration, so I will not." She said as I took a moment to peer around at all the figures passing the courtyard in a hurry while from a Portrait of a Knight shouted warnings at everyone to slow down while loudly proclaiming 'An impatient mind is a mind up to no good!'
'The Portraits are quite eccentric in winter, over worried too.' I thought wryly as the students which were probably returning from the Quidditch match continued to ignore the warning.
It was a question of 'When' not 'If' that a student would slip but I could see a cat standing in the courtyard with glasses on, so Professor McGonagall had everything in control. Probably.
"Well it's not like you're half bad yourself, I would say you're almost on par with me in at least Charms." I said sarcastically as she shoved me playfully and I played along by staggering a bit.
"Now, now don't drop those books just to teach me etiquette." I said and she immediately wrapped her hands tighter around the books.
"I wanted to ask you for help regarding something actually, nothing related to homework or breaking any rules I promise." I said, gathering her attention.
"As long as you're sure about the last part." She said, agreeing.
"Well considering I read through all of 'Hogwarts, A History' at your recommendation, no rules that I'm aware of at least. But you can judge after listening to it if you want to help or not." I offered and she nodded.
"Let's get back to the Common Room first." I said and we walked in companionable silence for a few minutes before reaching the Common Room and sitting down in front of the unlit fireplace.
I listened for the others briefly as Hermione took a moment to skim through some of the books before pushing a piece of paper with the dreaded words written on it.
"Kulen Syshgi." Hermione read over the words from the clean parchment.
I had taken the time to copy the word down on some parchment that didn't have my blood all over it.
"Yeah that. I want to find its meaning or translation. I'm not overly familiar with Muggle languages but those few I do know aren't related to this. For creature languages I don't know anything besides some basic, Fair Speech and Cold Tongue and it's not something from those either." I said frustrated, more at myself for being unable to figure it out than anything else.
"How can you be so sure that these aren't random words? Anyone could write any nonsense on parchment." Hermione asked, fairly skeptical about the whole thing.
"Unlikely for it to not have meaning." I answered.
"How can you be so sure?" She asked, now sounding slightly concerned.
If The Mirror of Erised wasn't such a dangerous death trap that I didn't want anywhere near Hermione who already had unfair expectations of herself then I might have offered to take her to it and show it as proof.
Instead I simply shook my head and tried to keep a straight face.
"I'm extremely sure that it has some meaning. I don't know what exactly, but I found it in one of the Dragon Tomes, the one Draco got on Christmas. There was no translation for it though and no sources, it stuck out like a sore thumb and it can't be a misprint because the Tome is quite expensive not to mention copied down only upon order." I said, hoping she would buy it.
After a fair moment of consideration Hermione nodded.
"Sure then, but you're going about this the wrong way." She said slowly.
"How so?" I said leaning forward.
"You won't find anything with just two words, you need something more. A paragraph preferably but even a sentence will be better." She said brushing her thumb against the words on the parchment.
"I can try to find more in the Tome. I don't know if I'll find anything like a paragraph but maybe I missed something, it doesn't hurt to try." I answered confidently.
"I promise to help you if you do. Sorry I can't help with just this." Hermione said but I made a waving motion with my hand.
"Don't be silly, you're the best and don't let anyone say otherwise. Now tell me about these books you took from the Library." I asked, smiling.
But before she could begin speaking Draco burst through the doors.
"Hufflepuff won!" He said excitedly and I tried my best to not roll my eyes.
