Infinity and Magic

Ch 104; Worth of a word

*Anos’s POV*

Sneaking back into the room was incredibly easy, nevermind I had been discovered. On second thought probably knowing that Dumbledore knew about me sneaking out helped push off the adrenaline.

By the time I had returned everyone was still asleep, as I walked back to my room and quietly entered it before falling face first down onto the bed.

It was a noticeable length of time before I could convince myself to crawl upwards and put my head on the pillow.

‘Huh, wonder why the squirrel didn’t come to greet me?’ I thought confused before drowsily reaching to the side of my bed and holding onto the power button of my phone.

There wasn’t much I used it for so for the most part it remained shut down while being fully charged, I did check on it twice every month just so it didn’t break from disuse or something.

It opened much more slowly than the phone I had used in my previous life, then again it was 2022 at that time so technically the technology of this world would be in the past really, it was confusing and making me more sleepy by the moment.

Finally the ‘Grey Corps’ logo disappeared and the screen lit up to show me my wallpaper  of a knight in blue and gold standing on top of a hillside.

Smiling fondly I tapped in my password and opened the phone to see the time, a bit past 1 AM.

‘Something tells me there was an easier way of checking time…..nah.’

I thought over the idea of using my phone for a bit but ultimately decided not to fuel my Insomnia and switched it off again.

‘Can’t even drink coffee because then it’ll be impossible to go to sleep, damnit.’

I simply pushed my head into the pillow more and tried to fall asleep.

‘I should really talk to Alucard, maybe apologise. First thing to do after I wake up then.’ I hummed to myself before trying to blank my mind of all thoughts.

Tap

My eyes opened behind my blindfold and my right hand shot up straight towards a corner of the rooftop.

‘Strengthened Blue’

With a flash of Cursed energy in my arm flowing out of my fingertips there was a sudden suction of air before, from the right edge of the room a body shot straight towards me dressed in white.

My eyes focused harder in the darkness before I let my arm drop and pushed my head back into the pillow.

The individual floating towards me suddenly found himself without any pull and dropped to the ground like a sack of potatoes.

“You need to work better on your reflexes Alucard, if it was someone threatening then they would have been pushed straight back into that corner of the roof, back and forth till their bones broke.” I mumbled, knowing Alucard could probably hear all of it clearly.

“You’re more than improper.” He said standing up and patting his clothes.

“Says the one currently standing in my room in the middle of the night and was observing me while hanging from the roof like a bat.” I said chuckling, still refusing to make eye contact.

Very hesitantly I could see Alucard walk over and sit down at the edge of the bed before falling silent.

After some time I decided to scoot over to the left side of the bed before patting at the sheet.

“Well if you’re going to sleep then do it quickly, I’m not sure if you’ve brought your own blanket so I’ll just kindly share mine.” I said before yawning.

‘Wow I really must be tired.’

Alucard seemed to take offense though as he shot straight up before turning and looking at me.

“What? No, I didn't come here to sleep.”

“Well then what did you come here for? Clearly not for talking. And I’m not in the mood for making coffee this late in the night, I need actual rest.”

Alucard exhaled sharply in annoyance before replying “You’re annoying.”

“Your observation skills truly have no peers among mortals but you’re also being an ass by being in my room in the middle of the Night so either speak, sleep or go out.” I snapped, finally pulling my face from the sufficiently warm bed.

Alucard seemed to almost turn towards the door before he took another sharp breath, scratching at his ring.

“I want you to apologize.”

The words were so off that I almost slid down the corner of the bed.

“Pardon?”

“I want you to apologize and then promise to not go back to fight seven damned Automatons or Golems.” Alucard said with considerably more conviction.

“I….need to apologize? For what?”

“For getting hurt.”

For a long moment there was no noise in the room.

Before I nearly shouted.

“What the fuck is your thought process?” My voice was loud but the sensory deprivation spells would make sure that not even a whisper would be heard outside.

Alucard winced at the words before slightly stepping back, the words were almost like war drums to my sensitive ears and all signs of sleep almost instantly disappeared but for the moment I didn’t have a single care.

“You think I should apologise for getting hurt? I understand wanting me to apologise for disturbing you in the middle of the night or asking you for help, yes that’s my fault for thinking we were friends and I apologise for asking you for help, but it doesn’t mean I’ll apologise for being wounded by a Automaton like some groveling, snorking Woodwatcher out in the Black Forest.” I said, beginning with a level voice and progressively getting louder as I continued.

Alucard continued to look like a lost puppy on the pavement and that hurt even more.

“I….I was going to apologise to you. Not caring about your own faults I was going to apolgise to you first thing after I woke up.” I continued, breathing deeply.

“I didn't-” Alucard started but suddenly the whole week of sleep and the even longer bottled up fatigue seemed to catch up to me all at once and I cut him off.

“Get out.”

“What?” Alucard mumbled.

“GET OUT.” I shouted and Alucard’s face dropped before he shuffled to the door.

“I was going to trust you.” He mumbled as the door opened a creak.

I knew I shouldn’t say anything and be quiet but in my anger I wanted to have the last word in.

“And I already trusted you, clearly I was wrong.” I spoke as my nails dug deep into my forearm.

With that Alucard left, thankfully closing the door behind him.

I dropped my head on the pillow, just wanting to sleep but no longer being able to. The white bedsheet now had crimson over it but I didn’t care.

Scratch

With a slight pitter patter of his small feet the Hazesquirrel appeared from my cupboard, climbing onto the bed and curling up beside me.

“I was wrong to trust so quickly huh.” I mumbled scratching the squirrel who rubbed against my head.

Set appeared at my side and I immediately hugged him, burying my face into the wolf’s fur.

“I’m sorry, I forgot about you. I'm so sorry.” I began apologising.

“Tired.” The wolf barked and began licking my face where I hadn’t realised I had cried, mostly because my blindfold had absorbed most of the moisture.

‘I’m tired as well.’ I thought and with a flare of cursed energy Sif appeared at my right too.

I fell asleep with drying tears and a head buried in wolf fur.
