Infinity and Magic

Ch 105; Asking for help Part-I

*Anos’s POV*

‘Why in the name of Typhon’s liver do I have a headache in the morning?’

My eyes were still closed but the sun was dimly shining from behind the dark clouds which meant it was about time for me to be awake.

I slowly got up and got out of the blanket, making sure to not wake up ] the squirrel sleeping curled up in the blanket.

I hadn’t decided on a name yet even after a long time of thought and even if it wasn’t a Shikigami the squirrel would stay with me, so naming it ‘Nutty’ wouldn’t work . I doubted Quirrel would mind me having it.

I dragged my feet along and opened the door before slipping out into the hallway, a few steps more and I was in the common room dragging myself to the warm hearth.

“Wow. You look like someone ran a herd of Minos over your head.”

“Good morning to you as well Simon, bought any new firecrackers from the Weasley twins lately? You and Draco sure do love them.” I replied, feeling the heat from the flame seep into my skin.

“Nevermind that, what has gotten into you? I am awake before you or the bloodsucker for that matter. No one is awake before you two, ever.” Simon said, sounding genuinely astonished.

“Well technically I was only resting my eyes for the last hour or so.” I said rubbing at my eye drowsily.

‘And before that I was going raving mad trying to find the meaning of a bunch of words scrambled together like a pile of newborn Ocamy.’

“Well it’s clearly not doing you any good, I could have tripped your leg with a whip and you would’ve barely noticed.” Simon boasted, still not over how I catched the whip he used with my bare hands most of the time.

“Ha, I would’ve liked to see you try.” I replied getting up.

“Where are you going? Class still isn’t in at least 3 hours.”

“Making myself some coffee so you wouldn’t fret over me like a Maiden with her favorite Knight.” I said walking towards the kitchen.

“Well you’re not exactly the Knight type.” Simon said following me.

“Why? Do I not forage enough from private property or steal horses from peasants?”

“Well yes that and also… just you in general.” Simon said laughing.

“Fair enough. Good thing they stopped handing out Knighthoods after the last Goblin rebellion.” I said, grabbing the container of milk.

‘I love this kitchen, never have to restock on anything ever.’

“Well yeah, after Yardley Platt getting a slap to the wrist for being a Knight the Goblins would’ve needed at least some kind of concession, they remember grudges too well, nevermind that Yardely died in 1557.”  Simon said, boiling the milk over a thankfully electrical stove.

Simon was a tad too good at survival, it had taken some serious convincing to stop him from trying to check if it was possible to start a fire in the Common room in case ‘The door to outside stopped working and we had to survive in the common room for the rest of our lives.’

I mean I get that magic isn’t the most stable of things and who knows how long ago the Wards of our Common Room were checked if ever but it required a surprising amount of stubbornness to explain to Simon that we had a kitchen that refilled itself with everything we could ever want to eat.

‘I blame his dad for that fire trick, I get trying to kill Vampires and Bonewraiths and every creature that squirmed in the dark but the man carries a mace head that’s perpetually lit on fire and almost passed that Pyromania onto his son.’ I thought wryly

“Hey, you remember the dates of all the Goblin rebellions? Professor Binns did say they can be asked in the finals.” Simon asked, trying to fill the companionable silence.

“Well yes, I even remember about the very first one or what they say is the first one, the one about the reclamation of Godric Gryffindor's sword…” Simon hummed as I continued “...was never really confirmed was it?” I asked and SImon nodded.

“Yeah they really didn’t think to write that one down fully, there’s barely 2 pages  on the whole thing.” Simon said, turning off the stove.

“Yeah, weird considering all the ones after that have enough written about them to fill a compendium and then some more.”

“Hey why’re you only taking out 1 cup?” Simon asked and I looked back at him weirdly.

“I thought you didn’t like coffee? Tastes too bitter to you. I can make more then if you want?” I asked confused.

“Oh not me. But aren’t you going to make some for Alucard? I thought you did that usually.” Simon asked, tilting his head.

“He prefers making his own nowadays.” I answered, grabbing my preferred cup.

It had been about a fortnight since my argument with Alucard and he had certainly done his best to make himself sparse, usually avoiding being anywhere near me even in lessons.

‘I must disgust his esteemed self too much, irrational idiot.’

Simon remained silent for the next couple of minutes as I finished making the coffee and very carefully dropped a miniscule drop of blood in it.

“Are you on some Bloodsucker diet or something? You usually get a full blood drop in your coffee, that blood drop was barely noticeable. Not that I mind you lessening on that.” Simon said hurriedly.

I ignored him, taking a long sip of the liquid and sweet warmth that was my coffee before replying.

“Don’t you know I will get fat if I drink too much blood?”

‘And probably  become a mad and cold hearted arse as well.’ I thought derisively before taking another sip.

“Well if that’s what you say.” Simon said hesitantly as we returned to sit by the fire and I finished my cup of coffee.

It wasn’t the best of mornings and I still felt incredibly tired but it was better than the last 2 weeks in general.

We talked for a bit more before everyone else started waking up and we began preparing for the day’s lessons.
