Infinity and Magic

Ch 106; Asking for help Part-II

*Anos’s POV*

“Why does Wednesday have to be History?” Draco complained, chewing slowly on toast.

“Come on, it’s not that bad.” Simon assured before taking a bite out of sausage “Damn, the House Elves have outdone themselves.”

“Why are you so easy to please? You get a decent breakfast and you’re chirpy for the entire week.” Draco complained.

“Well unlike you I try to not be such a killjoy, and what’s wrong with eating good food and being happy about it?” Simon retorted.

I had half a mind to shove my head into my currently full plate of food and to drown the chitter chatter out but that would be unseemly.

So instead I was forced to hear in unneeded detail as Hermione asked Harriet questions on Potions on my left while Weasley Twins were having a laugh somewhere behind me while talking to Lee Jordan who was wheezing and banging the table over something.

‘I should probably ask the Twins to stop tormenting Sir Cadogan.’ I thought, making a mental list, probably ask them after lunch where gods willing they’ll have somewhat less energy and I would be slightly less irritated by the sound of laughter.

The Weasley Twins were one of the few well known faces to the Old Knight and unfortunately not in an entirely pleasant way considering the amount of pranks that they had played at his expense.

Making sure that the Knight had a slightly better go of things for the next few weeks was the least I could do to try and repay him and knowing him he would reject any repayment, citing some old law of Chivalry or something.

The Weasley Twins weren’t unreasonable, just hyperactive, they would understand, hopefully. Or I would make a Curtain Barrier around Sir Cadogan.

To my right sat Lan, eating slowly with one hand while the other; non dominant one probably, rested on the table.

There was one less person on the table who had chosen to not have breakfast today, and upon Harriet knocking on his door and asking had simply replied with “I don’t wish to eat, I’ll join in class.”

And that had been that as we had left for Breakfast.

‘No use lamenting now.’  I thought, pushing my food on the plate rather than eating it.

Sigh I need to stop sulking like a kicked puppy, damnit.' I berated myself trying to eat, knowing I was gonna need it.

After a few minutes of mechanically putting food into my mouth and chewing it as thoroughly I could I looked to my left, noticing Hermione tapping on my shoulder.

Taking a moment to swallow, I spoke.

"What?" I asked.

"You never got back to me about that language? Did you solve it yourself?" Hermione asked and I noticed she was already done with her food.

'I wish.' I mocked myself mentally before shaking my head.

“No, no yet. I forgot to ask.” I answered which wasn’t completely untrue, I had forgotten at first and then tried to decipher  that language by myself anyway, so far that task hadn’t been as smooth sailing as I would’ve liked.

“Well let me help then, I’m sure we can do it much faster with the both of us.” Hermione answered sweetly and I smiled in response.

“And maybe we can ask some of the others for help?” She continued.

“Well if they’re interested then I don’t see why not. This is basically a pet project for me.” I replied, shrugging before finishing the last of my meal.

“How is the Investigation going on between you and Harriet? Found anything Intr-” I was cut off by Hermione pinching my forearm.

“Hey! That was entirely unnecessary.” I said rubbing my arm, not that it hurt much if at all.

“Not here.” Hermione whispered.

“Should I get a Batcave then? Come on, with how fervently both of you talk about it I’m pretty sure even Professor Quirell can hear you both if he ignores his shaking long enough.” I retorted.

Well I was probably the only one with the ear sensitivity to catch their whispers other than perhaps Alucard but it would be better anyway for the both of them to be more cautious with their incessant planning.

Not that they were necessarily making any huge strides in their investigation, they already knew that someone wants to get the Philosopher’s Stone and that maybe the Troll attack was orchestrated to get a chance at snatching it but must’ve failed.

‘Turns out Professor Zephyr was more than capable of calming down an enraged Troll, and exceptionally efficient about it too, must’ve really wounded Quirrel’s miniscule ego.’ I thought, hiding my smile behind my glass of water.

Hermione seemed to be thinking something over with furrowed eyebrows, good, if she was safer about her search for the Philosopher’s stone alongside Harriet then all the better. They both had enough sense to not search the Third Floor corridor and see if Draco’s talk about a giant Three headed dog were true or not.

Looking behind Hermione I could see Harriet rubbing at her scar, wincing.

‘Quirrel must be around, alongside that no nosed leech on his head.’

Harriet had told me about her scar hurting randomly at times but there was no solution I had for that which didn’t involve telling everyone the truth about Quirrell immediately, which might or might not have been accepted because of my…. Unique disposition towards Magic, or I could just discreetly make sure Harriet avoided Quirrell as much as was possible, which wasn’t particularly easy with all her interest in DADA.

I had still chosen the latter option just to be safe and it was mostly perfect except a few slip ups every once in a while, like today.

‘Quirrell at least will be taken care of by the end of the year. Voldemort will still be the cockroach that he is.’ I thought, taking a modest sip of water before beginning to prepare for lessons.

Those History notes wouldn’t arrange themselves, except perhaps with a bit of magic.
