Infinity and Magic

Ch 110; Is that a bird?

*Harriet’s POV*

It was late into the night after the last Quidditch match as Harriet sat in her room, trying to focus on Transfiguration homework.

She wasn’t exceptional in the subject but she was doing her best, her friends helped out a lot even though Alucard was rarely seen recently.

He and Anos must’ve had a fight probably, and both were being right twats about it and avoiding each other, which was stupid considering they both got along rather well till this one argument.

She had thought to ask Anos about it but then decided not to. From all the time she knew him, which was a long time considering he was her first friend, he had always been very…chatty. About most things at least and if he thought you wanted to ask him something he was very blunt about it.

It hadn’t helped that he always seemed to know about a lot of things, more than anyone else sometimes. So when she had tried to ask him about what happened between him and Alucard his eyebrows had furrowed halfway through the question and she had decided to change it and instead not ask while he had pretended to forget about her half attempt of the question.

So, here she was, thinking of that question after finishing her homework. She had some time to spend freely and could even stay up late since tomorrow was a Saturday and since there were no more flying lessons for the first years the day was basically free and she could sleep till noon if she wanted to.

That felt weird. Doing things just because she wanted to and not because aunt Petunia or Uncle Vernon wanted them done or Dudley would blame her if she didn’t and she felt sad about having to leave Hogwarts for the summer after their exams were done, going back to Privet Drive didn’t have as much appeal.

Hermione had been worried about the exams and was happy to have a long summer break at home but for her home had parents and a cat, while for Harriet it was waking up at the crack of dawn for one chore or the other around the house and spending the time till noon working.

Sometimes aunt Petunia would make her volunteer to help others in the neighborhood, like cutting grass and such.

The Dursleys didn’t feel like home but this time at least they might well leave her alone for the most part since uncle Vernon had looked so scared after Hagrid had arrived at the lighthouse to take her,

She giggled at the memory of Dudley having a pig’s tail, she knew she shouldn’t but she couldn’t help it.

Maybe Privet Drive will be alright this summer, she thought as she laid down on her unimaginably comfortable and snug bed.

And if it wasn’t then she could scare the Dursleys with her dog.

At that thought a small black puppy materialised to her right, yipping excitedly and licking her face.

“You will like scaring Dudley, won’t you.” She asked and Midnight gave a sharp bark in reply and she couldn’t help but laugh  at the idea.

Yes using magic outside of school wasn’t allowed to students but the puppy was special as Anos had explained to her after christmas, it was more of a familiar and not one at the same time and since Anos was what the wizarding world referred to as a Progenitor there weren’t any rules regarding his gifts and how he wished to use them, at least not until the Ministry makes him register all he can do when he comes of age.

She remembered Anos had scoffed at the idea of letting the Ministry prod him for all he could do, in his own words “If they knew then they’ll not understand, that’ll make them afraid and I’ll rather go live with Dudley in a broken down hut at the peak of the Himalayas then be subject to an unofficial witch hunt. Damn prudes.”

She had laughed with him but had also been worried about it, not that she could do anything regarding it.

What she could do was find who wanted the Philosopher’s stone, and hopefully she’ll find the answer tomorrow.

It had been after the Quidditch match, she had been returning to the Common room when she had overheard Professor Quirell whimpering to someone, apparently having to go to the Forbidden forest at night.

She had rushed out of there as fast as she could, and had even told Hermione about it who had surprised her by telling her not to do anything since going alone into the Forbidden Forest was grounds for expulsion.

“You can’t even sneak out anyways, they’ll catch you before you walk out of the great hall. Also you don’t know when they’ll be meeting, it could be in a week or maybe a month. It’s not like you can stay up all night.” Hermione had droned on, clearly worried and Harriet had told her she wouldn’t walk out of the castle to follow Professor Quirrell outside of the castle.

She felt a pang of guilt as looked at the window in her room, closed but providing a view to the lands around the Castle where she had tried her best to stay up to catch Professor Quirell sneaking out but so far had been unsuccessful.

She was sure though, that if she found him she spotted him she wouldn’t have to walk out.

She would fly.
