*Anos’s POV*

‘Why is Dad going together with Quirell?’ Anos considered from the window.

He scratched his memories for clues, finding none he hesitantly began to skim through the memories of his previous life that happened to be arranged progressively worse inside his head.

‘Ah there it is!’ He considered with relief as he finally put together what was going on.

Anos wanted to immediately rush out knowing what was going to happen but he had no means of doing so.

Going through the castle wouldn’t work even if he tried considering Sir Cadogan wouldn’t be ready to on a mayhem spree on such short notice, and even if he used the wolves others will notice that Quirell and his dad weren’t in the castle and that would cast doubt where he currently didn’t want any.

Flying out would’ve been fine but he could only float with Cursed energy nevermind the sheer fall there was from his window to the green ground below, and he had in his stupidity and dislike not gotten a Flying broom not that he was even sure of using one with any degree of proficiency.

So instead of doing anything else he decided to wait and watch the Forest from his window while trying his best to come up with a convincing lie that would surely be required in the very near future.

And just as he had expected after watching the Forest incessantly for any sign of movements for nearly half an hour a humanoid shaped object flew out from the horizon, wheezing fast towards him but at the last moment slowing down, faltering, and then going to a room to his right.

‘Well at least she has enough senses to recognize my face even while she’s being frantic.’ He considered before quietly exiting his room, walking up to Harriet’s room and gently knocking.

He couldn’t really hear inside the room all that well even if he tried to and for a brief moment he expected that she would decide to not answer the door and play innocent but after a few breaths there was a voice from the other side.

“Hmm? Yeah who is it?” Harriet said in a drowsy voice, and for that he wanted to almost laugh at her poor attempt at appearing to be sleepy.

“It’s me, I heard some crashing sounds, did you fall from your bed? Are you alright in there?” Anos asked, doing a considerably better impersonation of a worried voice than what Harriet had attempted.

For a long moment there was no answer from the other side but then the door opened a creak and Harriet peeked out, noticing that only he was there. Before grabbing his hand and slightly tugging him inside the room.

After Anos enters she hurriedly closes the door behind him before beginning to speak.

“How did you hear me go out?” She asked, appearing annoyed but her eyebrows creased in worry.

“Well mythical creature 101 says that a large majority of humanoid creatures with Magic enjoy heightened senses of one kind or another, I lucked out and have all of them.” Anos explained as he pulled a chair from the corner to sit down on.

“Now, may I ask why you decided to go out into the Forbidden Forest in the night on a broom. With our window as your put together method of take off? You do realize that we are above even the gigantic Castle right?” he questioned, hoping his voice didn’t sound as anxious as he felt.

“What? No! That’s not what’s important here…” Harriet said panicking before Anos calmly put a hand on her shoulder and motioned her to breathe, which she did.

“Now speak, I’ll listen.” He said after her heartbeat had calmed a tad and her breathing was more even.

“I saw your Dad threatening Professor Quirell.” Harriet said, trying to sound calm but finding it harder to do so with each word passing her own lips “He knows. About the Philospher’s stone I mean and he threatened Professor Quirell about it, said that he knew Professor Quirell was playing some game.” She said hurriedly and Anos sat calmly, continuing to listen to her with patience.

Harriet for the next few minutes explained to him about why she had gone outside in the middle of the night and how she had heard Quirell acting like he would piss his pants if a rogue tumbleweed brushed against his leg.

After she had finished Anos stood up and poured her some water, after noticing she was near heaving from the exertion of speaking incessantly for the past 10 minutes.

“Thank you.” Harriet said as she held onto the water cup before downing it quickly, as her throat was parched.

Anos poured her another cup which this time she decided to drink more modestly.

“More?” He asked after she had finished and she shook her head in reply.

Putting the water jar back onto the desk, Anos sat back down before beginning to speak.

“We have talked about other teachers being aware of the Philosopher’s Stone, yes?” He asked and continued after she nodded in answer.

“Well what I get from this is that the teachers themselves don’t trust each other, or at least some of them.” Anos said carefully, measuring his words.

“Professor Quirell might not be trusted unconditionally by my Dad, and while I will be the first person to admit he is not the most welcoming person I have ever met, my dad isn’t evil enough to work for Voldemort.” He finished, breathing slowly.

He could almost see Harriet wanting to say something in retort, probably what every other house except Slytherin would say about his dad and he wanted to sigh, but that he couldn’t do.

Instead he turned his mind away from the tiredness and dreariness and opened his mouth to speak again.

“Harriet, I know what the other students say, I don’t fault you for believing them but I need you to trust me that my dad isn’t working for Voldemort.” He said slowly.

“Why don’t you feel worried about saying Voldemort’s name?” She asked instead.

“Because he’s as much of a human as the worst of them, no matter how much he tries to make us believe he’s superior to us. The world goes far beyond than just Voldemort, there are other evils out there which are worse than him, there have been Monsters in the world of magic worse than Voldemort and there will probably be more in the future, I do not fear him for what he is but understand him for what he wants to be.” Anos said with surety and he believed those words.

He had read through tomes of people who a millenia or two ago were stated to be much worse than what Voldemort was said to be now, but he firmly believed that such people could be brought down. He had learnt that.

It may take inconceivable effort, unfair choices, endless sacrifice among a plethora of other things but there was no Malovalent existence in the Wizarding world which couldn’t either be reshaped or destroyed, not in the world of magic. He believed that.

Harriet seemed to consider the words and he noticed her running her finger in soothing circles around her scar.

“If there is anything I can tell you to make you believe that my father is innocent then tell me.” He said after the silence had stretched on, breaking her out of her reverie.

She didn’t say something immediately which was good. She also didn’t immediately believe him and take him for his word, which was less good but more wise.

“I can’t think of anything.” She said after consideration and he let out a sigh that was both relief and tiredness.

“Look I can’t make you trust him immediately…” He said, knowing that he probably could but wasn’t willing to “...but I can promise you that if I find anything suspicious that my dad is doing to actively harm you or the stone then I’ll tell you. It’s not much I understand that, but it’s all I can give.”  He said and he didn’t like that he almost sounded like he was pleading for trust but maybe that’s what he was doing, asking for trust.

Harriet nodded almost immediately and his shoulders sagged in relief.

“I will not break the promise.” He said with conviction, to himself and everyone else in the room.
