"Please, wait here," the driver said, leaving Silas and Asher a few feet away from the elevator.
He walked to the table, pulling a card out of his chest pocket as he approached.
"I am from the Academy," he said, sliding the card towards the clerk.
"A seed student and his guard. They are here for all the necessary licenses."
The clerk picked up the card, examining it for a moment before looking at the driver again.
She flashed a bright smile, returning the card to him.
"Alright, here are two forms," she said, pulling two sheets of paper from beneath her desk.
"This is for the candidate," she said, handing one to the driver.
"And this is for the guard," she said, handing him the second one.
The driver collected both forms with a nod.
"They can sit over there to fill them out," the clerk said, pointing towards one of the numerous chairs in the office.
"And these are pens to use."
She gave him two pens as well.
"Thank you," the driver said before walking towards Silas and Asher.
He handed each of them their own form and pen, then directed them to the chairs.
"This is really soft," Silas said, resting comfortably in his chair.
Momentarily, he forgot about the form, choosing instead to revel in the softness of the cushion beneath him.
Asher tapped him slowly on the shoulder.
"We shouldn't be wasting time, right?"
Silas's eyes fluttered open quickly.
"I got distracted there," he muttered, gripping his pen tighter.
He looked at the first question on the form.
It was the same classic question.
[First Name: ]
"Silas," he muttered as he wrote his answer.
Without hesitation, he wrote Lancaster in the last name section.
He looked at the next one.
His age.
He was about to write eighteen when he remembered how long he had been awakened.
"I can't believe it's been two years since I awakened," he mused, changing his answer from eighteen to twenty.
"Planet of Origin," he murmured before writing Veritas.
"Orion Sector."
The next question asked for his realm and stage.
"Ascendant Realm, Monarch stage."
The last three questions were his scientist rank, citizen rank, and his citizen ID number.
"Citizen rank, level 3. Scientist rank, researcher."
His pen halted when he reached the ID section.
"Rion, remind me, what was my ID number again?"
He asked with his mind.
Rion flickered to life in his sight.
[9131230234]
The numbers appeared on his screen boldly.
Silas nodded and wrote them on the paper.
After a quick check, he looked at the driver.
"Here, I am done," he said, stretching the paper towards him.
The driver collected it and held it neatly.
Asher turned his in soon after.
"I would be back."
The driver took the forms to the clerk.
"Please wait a few minutes for the licenses," the clerk said, placing both forms into separate machines.
The machines whirred to life, a blue light pulsing along their surfaces.
Ding.
They chimed, clicking open.
The clerk did not rush.
She moved towards the machine that held Silas's form.
First was a hard, small card with his image and everything he had filled in on the form.
Then, there was a paper that showed his permitted duration of stay, alongside his rights.
The clerk tucked the sheet into a transparent leather pouch.
The last item was the deed of a house assigned to him.
Looking at the house on the deed, the clerk bent down, searching through the drawer for the keys.
Soon, she found the label for the exact house.
"Here, this is the full document for the student," she said, placing everything into a paper bag and handing it to the driver.
Asher's was much the same, with only the absence of the land deed and the note that he could not leave Silas's house if Silas was not with him.
The driver nodded.
"I am quite worn out after that long journey. You might want to cook a lot for me today," the driver winked as he turned back.
The clerk nodded with a smile.
Silas stared at the driver as he returned.
"Are we done now?" He asked.
"Yes, these are your documents. Ensure you don't misplace them, since you would be sent out of Earth immediately, student or not."
Silas nodded, collecting his documents and tossing them into his AI space without much thought.
Asher did the same.
"Next stop, Earth's registration centre," the driver said, already walking towards the elevator.
Silas sighed.
"So many things to register for, it is just too stressful."
No one responded to his words.
They all shared the same thought, but since there was no way to avoid it, they chose to ignore the topic.
They were back on the rooftop in no time.
"What's your name?" Silas suddenly asked the driver.
The driver froze, his hand still resting on the button to start the ship.
"What is it?" Silas asked with furrowed brows.
"I am sorry, but telling you my name is an offense to the Empire."
Silas frowned.
"Just telling me your name?" He asked, his brows raised. "That's serious."
The driver nodded, then pressed the button.
Energy swept through the ship as it began to rise.
Then, in a burst of speed that scattered the wind currents in the area, the ship launched through the air.
It began to tilt upwards till its tip was facing the sky.
Silas looked at the beauty of the planet they were leaving and could not help but marvel.
"If the administrative planet is this advanced, I wonder how advanced Earth would be," Asher muttered.
"Pfft!" The driver, as if trying to hold back his laughter, released a short sound.
"What was that?" Silas asked.
"Nothing," the driver replied, doing his best to return his expression to normal.
Silas shook his head at the driver's antics, but did not dwell on it.
Soon, they were out of the planet, returning to the void.
Without stopping, the ship tore towards Earth.
