"I am Auranova," the lady said, extending her arm for a handshake.
A smile spread on her lips as she spoke.
"Silas," Silas replied, standing to shake her hand.
But the confusion on his face was glaring, and Auranova caught that.
"I am a disciple of Master Sebastian. He asked both of us to team up for our first missions," she explained calmly.
The smile was still on her face.
"Oh," Silas exclaimed, nodding slowly.
'Good thing I accepted to be his disciple,' Silas mused, thinking of how much help he had gotten just by being Sebastian's disciple.
Auranova nodded, looking at Silas as if expecting more words from him.
"Why don't we talk over a meal?" Silas suggested.
She creased her brows slightly.
"Okay, tomorrow, by 4pm, at my house," Auranova said.
"Here is my address and virtual ID in case you want to reach me," she added, sending Silas a bundle of information through his AI.
She did not linger; after bidding farewell to Silas, she walked out of the hall with calm, confident steps.
Silas stared at her retreating figure until she exited, then stared at the door for a moment longer before finally coming to his senses.
"Bro, Auranova just spoke to you," one of the boys beside him said, mouth wide in shock.
Silas nodded as he made his way out of the place.
He did not have the time to entertain any more questions.
'At least, in this short time, I should be able to check most of those corpses,' he mused.
In no time, Silas was back in the Academy's compound.
He looked around with an emotion that stood between joy and fascination.
But he did not plan to waste time that day.
There were just too many things on his plate that he needed to attend to.
After a few minutes, Silas finally reached the portal that had brought him to the academy in the first place.
There was no one there, not even Jenna.
Silas looked around one more time before finally stepping onto the platform.
As he stepped through, a screen appeared before him.
[Name: ?]
[Nation: ?]
[Address: ?]
Silas read everything, then replied after a moment's thought.
"Name is Silas Lancaster, nation is Nigeria, and address is 1, Greenville Avenue, Lagos State."
The words burst from his mouth in a flurry.
The screen glistened with a blue sheen before its content changed.
[You have been registered on an existing portal.]
The light covering him died at that instant.
He opened his eyes to the new place — the underground lab in his house.
Something seemed to shift in Silas's body; all the strength he had felt while in the academy had been removed.
Now he was nothing but a slightly above-average human.
But Silas did not care.
'I don't need to alert them of my arrival, right?' he mused, walking through the lab.
He pulled his coat off and draped it over one of the chairs in the lab.
"This is probably comparable to a gold-tier lab in the Orion Sector," he muttered, still walking around.
The place was made of glass that allowed him to see into the other zones.
There were three other zones — one on the left wing, one on the right, and one at the far end.
"This should be a storage or viewing booth," Silas muttered, already walking towards one of the doors.
"Life science," Silas said as he walked in fully.
Just from the equipment alone, it was obvious what it was.
He walked to the first piece of equipment — a tall, white cylindrical unit with a circular ring standing in the centre.
"A cell analyzer," Silas muttered, his hand stroking the equipment's surface.
Slowly, he looked away towards another piece of equipment that caught his eye.
"A gene sequencer," he muttered.
It was a large machine the size of a refrigerator.
"At least, with this, I should be able to create something after analyzing those."
But now, thinking about the corpses again, Silas could not help but wonder why he was so drawn to them.
He shrugged and looked at the hundred containment tubes.
Silas clicked his tongue as he continued his check.
"A potion maker," he said, looking at the large mixer-shaped equipment.
"This should be a newer model from Thornwood Pharmaceuticals," he mused aloud.
His body was giddy with excitement.
"No, let's check the other zones first," he said, trying to maintain his composure.
Although there were other pieces of equipment there, Silas simply noted them for later.
"I would learn about these later."
He stepped out of the life science zone, passed through the viewing booth briefly, then continued towards the right wing.
It was the same design as the previous one.
The only difference was the equipment.
"Matter Science."
He walked towards the largest thing in the room.
A table that took up half the entire space.
Above it, another white structure hovered.
"Matter scanner."
This was the most useful instrument for analyzing objects in the science world.
"At least, I got this."
But then, just when he thought he had seen the best thing, his body jolted.
"Is that?" He muttered, his legs nearly failing him as he walked towards another piece of equipment.
It was a long horizontal unit within a transparent case.
Inside it, dozens of microscopic arms, barely visible to the naked eye, drifted freely.
A tray was connected to the bed within the casing.
"A Nano Forge," Silas gasped.
The greatest instrument ever known to mankind, something created by the only Genesis rank scientist in the Empire.
With this, he could create anything he wanted, regardless of whether he had the required materials.
The only things he needed were an abundant supply of void core and the ability to reprogram the nanites to carry the properties of the required mineral.
"This should be fairly easy for me though," he mused.
He checked the rest of the space, but nothing he saw matched the excitement he got from seeing the Nano Forge.
"To the last zone," Silas said, passing through the door.
"It should be a runic lab," Silas guessed.
"Yes, it is," he said as he walked in.
Silas was not familiar with most of the things here.
And he was not to be blamed — he had only learned of runic science a few weeks before all the chaos began.
"But I am sure this is used for testing," he said, pointing at a piece of equipment with a tray that slid through a larger machine.
"That is for inscribing runes," he said, gesturing towards another with a large arm but a needle-like tip.
He did not spend too much time there.
"Now, let's get to business."
With those words, he made his way back to the life science zone.
