"So, our mission for this time is going to be on a level 1 war planet with void beasts," Auranova said.
"Where is the planet?" He asked with raised brows.
"Outside the Imperial Sector. I would send the location to you later," she said.
"For now, let's focus on the other details," she said, another screen popping up on the table.
"Unlike most missions, this one does not have a deadline. We are only expected to assist the people there in clearing the void nests scattered around the planet."
She looked at Silas at those words, as if wanting him to understand what she had just said.
Silas nodded slowly.
"When do we leave?" He asked.
"After New Year," she said plainly.
"But in that time, we need to understand each other well enough to trust ourselves in the mission."
Silence descended between both of them at her words.
"So, I propose we meet four times a week until the mission date," Auranova said, leaning forward. "Not only for training, but also for strategic discussions."
She was not going to force Silas if he said he was not interested.
But she definitely would not have him covering her back on a battlefield without confirming his skills for herself first.
Even though he was Sebastian's disciple, she still needed to see it with her own eyes.
"No problem, I am in," Silas replied, flashing a smile at her.
Auranova exhaled.
"So, you host two, I host two," she said.
Silas nodded.
Time passed in a blur with both of them discussing the mission.
"Good night," Silas said as both of them stepped out of the restaurant.
"Bye," Auranova waved back.
The restaurant shut at that exact moment, the lights dimming until everything within it was obscured by darkness.
'She truly is the owner of the place,' Silas mused, watching her enter her car and zoom off.
"Howard, I am ready to go," Silas said.
About a minute after he spoke, the plane began to descend, stopping just a few meters above the ground.
Silas stepped in.
"How was the meeting?" Howard asked as he took off from the ground.
"It was fine," Silas answered with a shrug.
Howard glanced back at Silas, then turned away.
Neither of them said anything else until they got to the villa.
"Master Silas, welcome home," Asher greeted as Silas and Howard entered.
Silas nodded.
"Were you able to sleep? Or did you play games instead?" Silas asked, squinting at Asher.
Asher shook his head.
"Thank you, I was able to sleep."
As he spoke, he brought a plate to Silas.
"Thank you, I would be upstairs," Silas said as he collected the plate of pancakes.
Entering the elevator, Silas exhaled loudly.
Auranova's parting words stuck to his mind like glue.
'I thought I would be able to stay without them, but it seems like I really miss them,' he mused.
'It has even begun to affect my behavior, and it is so obvious to someone who is only meeting me for the first time.'
The elevator doors chimed open at that exact moment, revealing the open rooftop.
Silas walked in, still holding the plate of pancakes.
As he sank into the chair, his eyes shifted to the clear sky.
"But seriously, why force everyone to use a universal time when everyone experiences a different day and night?" Silas muttered, setting the plate on the side table.
When he had left Australia, it was already night there, but here, they were barely approaching evening.
"But this sight is not so bad," he mused, looking at the clear river that spread around his villa.
The only place that did not have water was the front gate.
He took one of the pancakes and ate it.
Time passed, and the plate was empty.
Silas looked at it, then sighed.
The packet of cigars Auranova had given him earlier appeared in his palm and he took a single stick.
"Ahh, lighter," he said, shaking his head, ready to return the cigar to its packet.
"Here," a hand suddenly stretched towards him, offering a lighter.
"Thank you," Silas said, looking at the person for a moment.
Asher sat beside him.
"I am sorry for being so irresponsible these past few days," he said with a long sigh.
Silas nodded, taking a drag of the cigar.
"It's fine," he replied as he breathed the smoke out.
Asher smiled.
"You didn't notice when I came in. I stood there for over 20 minutes, you know?" Asher added. "What happened where you went?"
Silas looked at him with slightly furrowed brows.
"Nothing, seriously," he replied.
Asher went quiet for a moment.
"Is it about your friends?"
Silas said nothing, only taking another puff of his cigar.
Asher shook his head.
"Don't you want to give them a call?" He asked, staring at Silas.
"I tried earlier. They didn't pick up," Silas replied, taking another drag.
"Training among other students can be quite tough. Maybe they just haven't had a free moment."
"Yeah, I understand," Silas nodded slowly, putting the cigar back in his mouth.
Just then, another chime echoed from behind.
"Do you know one interesting thing to do while on the roof?" The voice came from the elevator.
Silas and Asher looked back at the source.
It was Howard.
He walked in, pushing a grill with a bag that could only be full of meat, and carrying a crate of six drinks in his other hand.
"Why are you bringing that here?" Silas asked, standing up from his seat in confusion.
"I don't know if you have tried this before, but one of the best ways to relieve stress is drinking beer with your friends and grilling meat — this is chicken, by the way — all under the open sky."
He stopped the grill a few meters away from the telescope.
"So, what do you say?" He said, raising the crate.
Silas and Asher looked at each other, unsure of what to say.
