Sara said calmly, her arms crossed next to her chest. "Anyways, I think that fate had some other choices for me. That’s why the postponement happened." A snort left her.

Even Ethan couldn’t suppress a small smile, but even smiling caused his muscles to tense up and hurt badly. His eyes flinched as a low groan left his mouth. "Ughh!!"

Sara looked at him carefully once. "Don’t try to move in this condition because if you do, it will just make your condition worse than it is. Your body currently is trying to repair your muscles; your mana core and the meridians are overworking themselves."

Then, her gaze shifted towards the dead bodies of all eighteen orcs, which were lying lifeless in the middle of the city. Their bodies were covering the floor entirely; there wasn’t even a single place to keep a step around the fountain.

"Also, there is something which I’m finding suspicious, but I don’t have any proof to back my thoughts."

"Doubts? About what, Sara?" Ethan asked as he tilted his head in confusion.

"Eighteen B-Rank monsters appeared here; then something is terribly wrong. Orcs don’t wander into human cities without reason. There is only one reason I can give; there are two possible outcomes. The first possibility is that a dungeon outbreak occurred here, but there are no B-Rank or higher dungeons in this location. She said and took a small pause.

Her pause was enough for Ethan to think that the other outcome was definitely something which Sara nor he will want to be true.

Eerie silence devoured the air entirely until Sara finally broke it. "The other outcome is that someone had deliberately driven them to our society. And if this is true, then their goal was to kill someone who lives here, and I personally don’t know anyone who is an important figure for the world."

Her words made Ethan’s chest tighten. He glanced at the horizon, where the forest was. "You mean... this wasn’t random?"

Sara’s eyes narrowed. "It can be, but I think it wasn’t. This felt way too organised for it to be classified as a random confrontation."

Her words made Ethan go quiet, and when he did, many thoughts struck him. ’Wait... someone important in the world? Athena and Isolde are both among the most influential figures in this world. They also had multiple enemies coming after them, all of whom were trying to kill them now that they knew both of them had been crippled. ’

A similar kind of thing happened the first day we shifted into this society. The juice jar was poisoned, and if today’s event is connected to the same thing... then their lives are at stake, and the person who’s trying to murder them doesn’t even care about the lives of innocent people living in this society.’

His jaw clenched, fingers curled into fists. ’Fuck... I can’t let them die, not after I’ve spent this much time with them.’

A sigh left his mouth as he pushed himself back. Although his posture was slightly stiff, the pain he was feeling a while ago had now lessened.

He looked at Sara and then at the bodies of the orcs. "Do they have the cores too? Or only the monsters residing in the dungeons do?" He asked, curiosity filling his tone.

"All monsters carry cores, Ethan. You didn’t know about this?"

"..." Ethan didn’t have even a single word to say because he knew that he had just messed up. Someone who lives in this world surely knows that all the monsters who reside in this world carry cores.

Even he knew that all the monsters have cores, but his brain wasn’t producing enough thoughts for him to remember what he had read in the novel.

"Let it be. You are the son of Duke Arthur. You never had to live your life around monsters, so I can understand if you didn’t know about this."

"Yeah... that’s true," he muttered.

’Fuck!! That was so fucking close...’ He shouted inwardly.

Sara walked to the stairs and made her way down to the ground. Ethan didn’t wait any longer; he also travelled alongside her.

"Let’s start harvesting the cores of all these monsters. You can take all these too because anything lesser than A-Rank is useless for me, but for you? It’s an entirely different thing." She said with a smile on her lips.

Right away, she crouched down next to the body of one of the orcs there. She pulled a hunting knife, which had its blade slightly curved; its edges seemed sharp.

With the help of that knife, she slit the skin of the orc from the middle of its chest. After creating a wound that was big enough to allow her hand to pass through it.

She drove her hand straight through the orc’s flesh, her fingers piercing deep into its body until they wrapped tightly around the core. With a firm pull, she tore it free from within, blood dripping from her hand as the lifeless body collapsed to the ground.

The core was shimmering brightly with a dark green colour; it was emitting really dense mana waves which were leaving through it in the form of strands.

Ethan looked at the core; his eyes widened a bit, and his lips parted. "Wait... this feels several folds better than the core of the C-Rank boss. I know that it’s the core of a B-Rank, but to this extent?"

"Each rank is different from the other. They’re like the ground and the sky—each ceiling is several times higher than the one below it."

He gave a firm nod before crouching down to the body of the other orc. He grabbed his sword, unsheathed it, and tore open the chest of the orc and followed the same steps that Sara performed and carefully extracted the mana core.

The core shimmered brightly in front of him, which made his mouth open because the mana was looking way too beautiful to look at from this close.

Both of them continued collecting the cores until they had extracted every single one of them.
