Chapter 646: Chapter 609: Wildly Ambitious (Part 2)
However, the man in the Yellow Robe was astonished to find the palace hall completely empty. There was nothing inside—not a Demon, not even a single decoration.
A completely empty hall.
"Could it be that the Six-eyed Golden Lion isn’t imprisoned here?" The man in the Yellow Robe’s expression turned grim. After going to such great lengths, was it all going to be for nothing?
"Golden Lion King, where are you? I’ve come to rescue you!"
"Golden Lion King, if you can hear me, answer quickly!"
The man in the Yellow Robe, who had been so calm and composed before the Array, suddenly started to panic.
His figure flashed as he constantly used Shift Form and Position to search the hall. But it was just as his naked eye had perceived: there was nothing inside. Never mind the powerful and terrifying Six-eyed Golden Lion, he couldn’t even find a single rat.
"Damn it! I was careless. It seems this place is just a smokescreen set up by the humans, an empty fort strategy. The Six-eyed Golden Lion isn’t imprisoned here at all!"
The man in the Yellow Robe’s eyes glinted thoughtfully, and he immediately gritted his teeth. "Cunning humans... utterly detestable."
’I may have wasted my efforts, but you won’t get off easy either.’
He had released so many Demons; Wencheng was in grave danger.
He immediately scanned his surroundings again. It was completely empty, and a faint sense of foreboding crept into his heart.
’Not good!’
’This place is empty. I can’t linger, or something unexpected might happen.’
’Time to go!’
But just then...
"Are you looking for me?"
Suddenly...!
A mournful voice, like that of a Ghost, echoed from an unknown location.
The man in the Yellow Robe was overjoyed at the sound. He scanned his surroundings once more, but he still couldn’t see so much as a shadow.
"Is that Your Excellency, the Six-eyed Golden Lion?" Unable to pinpoint the voice’s origin, the man in the Yellow Robe sent out a probing question.
The mournful voice sounded again. "Who are you? Your methods are quite impressive, to have made it all the way here."
"Are you the Six-eyed Golden Lion or not?" Yellow Robe asked again in a low voice.
"What if I am? And what if I’m not?"
A cold look crossed Yellow Robe’s face. "If you are, I’ll rescue you. If you’re not, I’ll kill you. No one makes a fool of me."
"Haha... In that case, I’m not. Go on, I dare you to kill me."
The moment the words were spoken, the lone man in the Yellow Robe was enveloped by a piercing and exceptionally terrifying killing intent.
This killing intent was like that of an Asura, utterly terrifying. A normal person enveloped by it would likely die of a heart attack on the spot. But Yellow Robe, on the contrary, was overjoyed. His eyes lit up as he gazed toward the roof of the small hall.
With a single glance, he saw a cage made of Profound Iron on the ceiling, but it was extremely small—no bigger than a rat cage.
Imprisoned inside was a small, delicate creature resembling a marten, its entire body covered in eye-catching golden fur.
Seeing this, Yellow Robe was delighted. "Brother Six Eyes, it really is you! I’ve finally found you!"
The eyes of the Golden-haired Little Monster in the iron cage flashed, instantly turning blood-red. Its body filled with a terrifying, desolate killing intent as its Evil Qi billowed out in all directions. "What are you, that you think you’re worthy of calling me Brother Six Eyes?"
"Brother Six Eyes, it seems being locked up in here has addled your brain. Your gaze is as terrifying as ever, but your eyesight must be failing if you can’t even recognize me."
In an instant, a terrifying, giant beast manifested above the head of the man in the Yellow Robe. It was Spiritual and Fierce, and incomparably terrifying. Looking closely, one could see it had the appearance of a Weasel.
"Haha, so it’s you, you old Weasel. To think we haven’t seen each other in a thousand years. Your cultivation has progressed quickly—you’re already almost at Rank Three Peak Cultivation."
The Golden-haired Little Monster in the iron cage sat up, staring intently at the man in the Yellow Robe outside the small palace hall.
"Brother Six Eyes, my Talent is far inferior to yours. To think that even while imprisoned in this tiny place, you still managed to cultivate and break through to the realm of a Deep Mountain Demon King. If you were cultivating in the Spiritual Qi-rich Yaoling Mountain Range like me, you might have already reached Rank Four of Ascension."
"Heh heh..." The Golden-haired Little Monster in the iron cage chuckled, its tone noncommittal and full of arrogance. ’His words are true. This place might look nice, but there isn’t a single trace of nature’s spiritual energy here.’
"Brother Six Eyes, let me get you out first. We can catch up afterward."
As he spoke, Yellow Robe reached out one hand. A powerful suction force suddenly emerged, and the iron cage on the ceiling shot toward his palm.
After catching the small iron cage, he was about to open it, but then...!
"Hold on..." the Golden-haired Little Monster said sinisterly from the cage. "Weasel, you came all this way to rescue me today. What are your true intentions? Make things clear first; it won’t be too late to let me out after."
Yellow Robe froze for a moment, then said, "Brother Six Eyes, we’re old friends. Seeing you imprisoned by humans... if I didn’t come to save you, who would?"
"I’ve been imprisoned by these detestable humans for a thousand years. Why are you only coming to rescue me now?"
Yellow Robe was taken aback, then explained, "The humans’ Demon Prison is heavily guarded; there’s usually no opportunity. But now, the War Relics have opened, and Fierce Beasts are attacking Wencheng. That’s how I finally got a chance to come and save you, Brother Six Eyes."
"What? The Ancient War Ruins have opened again?" Hearing this, the Golden-haired Little Monster in the cage showed genuine shock for the first time, a testament to the news’s impact.
Yellow Robe said, "Brother Six Eyes, once I get you out and we two brothers join forces, what is there to fear, even with the War Relics opening?"
"Out with it," the Golden-haired Little Monster said, having calmed down. "You’re rescuing me, so what do you want me to do for you? What are your conditions?"
Yellow Robe said, "Conditions? What conditions? With our friendship, do we really need to discuss such things?"
"It’s better to be clear. You, Weasel, could have come to rescue me at any time, yet you chose this exact moment. What good intentions could you possibly harbor?"
As the saying goes: a weasel paying a New Year’s visit to a chicken has no good intentions.
"Brother Six Eyes, you’re overthinking things. I’ll open this cage right now."
"If you don’t make things clear, I won’t leave even if you open the cage. I, the Six-eyed Golden Lion, fear neither heaven nor earth—the only thing I fear is owing a favor. If we don’t settle this now, once I’m out, won’t I be at your mercy?"
A glint flashed in Yellow Robe’s eyes, and he suddenly burst into laughter. "The world only knows the Six-eyed Golden Lion as incomparably ferocious and ruthless, recognizing no kin. I never expected you to be so meticulous."
"Brother Lang, the same goes for you. After a thousand years of imprisonment, one has to learn to be more cautious. Otherwise, how could you be cultivating so freely in the Yaoling Mountain Range, while I, the great Six-eyed Golden Lion—the world’s only noble existence of my kind—am stuck in this shithole, imprisoned by humans?"
No matter how high one’s starting point, acting without thinking could still lead to failure over a simple mistake.
The Demons in this Demon Prison had cultivated for many years, only to become arrogant and conceited. When had any of them ever taken humans seriously?
They killed whomever they pleased and ate whomever they wished. And the result? They all ended up in the slammer.
Once imprisoned by humans, there was no such thing as release upon completion of a sentence. You either submitted, or you were locked up until you died.
"Since you’re being so direct, Brother Six Eyes, I’ll get straight to the point as well," Yellow Robe said, his voice filled with ambition. "I want to become the Lord Gong of the Yaoling Mountain Range, the king of the entire range. But I can’t do it alone. I need you, Brother Six Eyes, to lend me your strength."
"I know you have no interest in fighting for territory, Brother Six Eyes. I rescue you, and you help me clear out those who stand in my way. When the time comes, we might even be able to enter the War Relics together, kill an Ancient Exotic Beast, and take its Beast Pill for our Cultivation."
The Golden-haired Little Monster in the cage clicked its tongue and sneered. "A mere Weasel like you wants to be the king of the Yaoling Mountain Range? The Yaoling Mountain Range is the main stronghold for all the Demons in the world. By that logic, I suppose you want to be the king of the entire Demon Race, don’t you?"
Its eyes filled with contempt. ’There are countless creatures in this world. The Divine Beasts of legend aren’t just myths, and powerful bloodlines are innumerable. It would never be the turn of a lowly species like the Weasel to rule.’
’An underdog rising up?’
’Perhaps this Weasel wants to follow human history, where the peasant overthrows the master.’
"Brother Six Eyes, king of the Demon Race? You’re exaggerating. How could I possibly place myself above you? I simply wish to become the sole dominant power in the Yaoling Mountain Range, that’s all."
The Golden-haired Little Monster shook its head. "I don’t care about any of that. My lifelong ambition is to reach Rank Four of Ascension. Since you’re rescuing me, it’s only reasonable that I help you in return. Besides, we’re old acquaintances, aren’t we?"
’I’ve wasted a full thousand years, and now even a Weasel’s Cultivation surpasses my own. What a supreme humiliation.’
’Kill. No matter the reason, all I see is slaughter.’
"Hurry and get me out of here! The first thing I’ll do is slaughter every last human outside!"
"Brother Six Eyes, your bloodlust hasn’t weakened one bit in a thousand years," Yellow Robe said with a smile. ’Excellent. This Golden Lion’s Vengeful Spirit is precisely what I was looking for.’
’With it as my vanguard, my grand ambition can be realized.’
