Invincible through Touching Corpses

Chapter 578 - 575: Beginning the Operation

Ji Qirong was stunned by what Lin Xinghai said. He hadn’t expected the other man’s request to be so bizarre.

He glanced at Lin Xinghai, confirmed that he wasn’t joking, and after a moment of silence, asked, "How long do you plan on occupying these 11 zones for?"

"One day! No, to be precise, we only need ten hours. We’ll be heading back tonight," Lin Xinghai replied, glancing at the time on his wrist-mounted computer.

"Alright! No problem." Ji Qirong breathed an inward sigh of relief and quickly agreed.

If Lin Xinghai had needed the zones for a longer period, it would have been a difficult situation for him to handle. After all, top-tier geniuses like him were extremely prideful, and he didn’t want to have a falling out over something so minor.

But if it was only for ten hours, he didn’t need to worry about what Lin Xinghai’s group was up to. In any case, it wouldn’t affect the Military Department’s subsequent plans.

Once they reached an agreement, Lin Xinghai recorded the map and left the temporary outpost without a moment’s delay, leading ten Armored Vehicles into the distance.

"Major Ji, what do you think they’re really planning to do?" one of Ji Qirong’s aides asked, unable to stop himself as he watched the convoy depart.

"I don’t know, but I’m certain we’ll have our answer soon enough. Send a scout team after them. Tell them not to get close—just use a recon drone to observe from a distance," Ji Qirong ordered.

He paused for a moment before adding, "And inform the Fifth Armored Division. That way, if something happens, they’ll have time to react."

At that moment, it wasn’t just Ji Qirong who was completely baffled by Lin Xinghai’s plans. Even many within the Xinghai Squad itself felt the same way.

While some veteran members of the Xinghai Squad had an inkling of what Lin Xinghai was up to, newcomers like Yan Feijie were completely in the dark.

"Boss, are we really going through with this plan?" Little Fatty asked, licking his lips as he listened to the mission Lin Xinghai laid out.

"What’s the matter? Scared?" Lin Xinghai asked with a smile.

"Heh heh! I’m just excited. This is the first time we’ve ever pulled off something this big!" Little Fatty chuckled. He had a feeling that what they were doing today might set another record for East Sea Academy.

Lin Xinghai glanced at Little Fatty, noticing that his personality seemed to be slowly changing after joining him. Back at the start of the semester, the timid, death-fearing kid he used to be would never have said something like that.

For Lin Xinghai, however, this was a good thing.

The ten heavily modified Armored Vehicles were like ten steel behemoths. The battering rams on their fronts not only crushed the Zombies on the road but also smashed all the abandoned cars to the side.

By ramming their way through, they quickly reached Zone 15, finally stopping in front of a shopping mall.

The first to disembark were not members of the Xinghai Squad, but 1,000 Combat Robots. They formed neat ranks and charged directly into the mall.

Some were tasked with clearing out the Zombies inside, while others began using whatever materials they could find to barricade the doors and windows. A third group started hauling heavy equipment into the building.

"What’s going on? Are we setting up a forward outpost here?" Yan Feijie watched the scene unfold with curiosity. He could feel that something big was about to happen.

Just then, Lin Xinghai’s voice boomed from the Armored Vehicles’ loudspeakers. "I’m sure you all see what’s happening. We are about to turn this mall into a defensive strongpoint."

"And the purpose of this strongpoint... is to withstand a zombie tide."

"That’s right. A zombie tide. Hunting Zombies one by one is simply too slow. So, I’m planning to send out four teams to lure Zombies back here. The goal is to trigger a tide and wipe them all out in one go."

"Don’t worry about safety. As long as you follow the plan, the risk to you will be minimal. Besides, I’ll be holding down the fort here. If any of you run into trouble, I’ll be able to provide support immediately."

"Next, Deputy Captain Ye Xin will announce the team rosters and their designated routes. Additionally, the number of Zombies each team lures will be counted toward your mission contribution."

As soon as Lin Xinghai finished, Little Fatty’s voice took over. Lin Xinghai was the strategist; Little Fatty was the one who handled the execution.

Before they knew it, Yan Feijie, Yuan Zheng, and the others were split up and assigned to various teams in a daze.

It wasn’t until his team set out that Yan Feijie felt as if he were waking from a dream.

He never imagined Lin Xinghai would be so audacious as to intentionally trigger a zombie tide. But at the same time, a sliver of excitement coursed through him, because he knew the plan had a high probability of success.

And if they succeeded, the rewards would be astronomical. They might even achieve the goal Little Fatty had mentioned: killing a million Zombies.

At this thought, he subconsciously tightened his grip on the Tearing Rifle in his hands. Only then did he notice that it wasn’t a standard-issue weapon; it had obviously been modified.

On top of that, he had also just been issued a Hand Cannon and several High-Energy Bombs. As for ammunition, he had an entire combat pack filled to the brim.

Of course, what reassured him even more were the powerful weapons inside the Armored Vehicle. Whether it was the Bee Bombs, Purgatory Bombs, Mortars, or even the combat drones, they could all provide immense help in times of danger.

Inside the Armored Vehicle, there was even a modified Mecha, meant for use against any Mutated Zombies they might encounter.

This loadout could only be described as luxurious.

The equipment alone was enough to instill immense confidence. Combined with the heavily modified Armored Vehicle, as long as they were careful not to get trapped after triggering the zombie tide, they would be in virtually no danger.

Yan Feijie took a deep breath and began to consider how he could best showcase his abilities during this mission.

...

Back in the mall, Lin Xinghai silently stared at a screen in front of him.

It displayed a map of the region, marked with the current positions of the various Armored Vehicles.

The vehicles had all reached their designated locations and were about to begin luring Zombies.

"Has the total number of Zombies in this area been calculated?" Lin Xinghai suddenly asked Little Fatty, who was standing beside him.

The modifications Little Fatty had sourced for the Armored Vehicles were comprehensive. They weren’t just simple upgrades to Defense Power and propulsion, but also included all sorts of other systems, such as long-range communications equipment.

As the Armored Vehicles moved, hidden cameras mounted on them precisely scanned the surroundings, transmitting the data back here for the central control system to process.

"According to the computer model’s calculations, the number of Zombies in our area may exceed two million. Boss, is this... really going to be okay?" As he said the last part, even Little Fatty, who had absolute faith in Lin Xinghai, couldn’t help but sound a little worried.
