"I’ll call you," the man said with a smile.

Kylie gave him a small nod. "Sure."

He slipped his phone into his pocket and walked away, disappearing into the crowd.

Kylie watched him for half a second before looking down at her own phone.

She had her snacks balanced in one hand and her phone in the other. She quickly rearranged the cups and packets so she wouldn’t drop anything, then lifted her head.

She froze the moment she lifted her head.

Christian was walking toward her. With a woman. His familiar, infuriatingly cocky grin was already in place.

Kylie’s expression immediately turned sour. Of all the people she could have run into tonight, it had to be him.

And of course he couldn’t be alone.

She tightened her grip around the snacks and turned around, deciding she had suddenly become very interested in returning to the cinema.

"Kylie."

She stopped.

Her eyes closed briefly, as she thought of how she’d play this safe. Of course he knew her well enough to recognize her from behind.

She turned around slowly.

Christian was already approaching her, with his hands now casually tucked into his pockets.

Kylie gave him a tight glare. "What?" She snapped.

He stopped a few feet away. His eyes moved over her outfit before returning to her face. That stupid little smile remained.

"So I just want to ask—"

"Don’t ask." She harshly cut himboff.

Christian raised a brow. "What?"

"I know you."

He chuckled. "Do you?"

She eyed him. "You just want to be silly. It’s written all over your face."

The woman beside him snickered. She was holding a paper bag of doughnuts.

Kylie’s eyes briefly moved toward her, then back to Christian. He looked entirely too amused.

"Did you think of me?" he asked.

Kylie stared at him. "What?"

"You heard me."

She scoffed. "Should you be asking me that in front of your date?"

The woman immediately shook her head. "His date? No."

Kylie blinked.

The woman smiled and extended her hand for a handshake. "I’m just his colleague."

Kylie hesitated before taking it. "Oh."

"I’m a volunteer from his tech company. I’m here to make sure everything runs smoothly tonight."

Kylie slowly released her hand. "His tech company?" surprised evident in her face.

The woman nodded. "Yes. He asked some of us to help coordinate things."

Kylie looked at Christian, then at the woman, and then back at Christian.

His expression had changed slightly. He was watching her carefully now.

"You didn’t know?" the woman asked.

Kylie forced a smile. "No."

She suddenly felt ridiculous. Christian had a company? Someone as ridiculous as he was could run a company?

The woman looked between them. Her smile widened. "It’s strange."

Kylie frowned. "What?"

"You both share slightly similar features."

Kylie stared at her.

Christian didn’t say anything. His gaze remained fixed on Kylie.

She suddenly became aware of the fact that he hadn’t looked away once.

"Similar features?" Kylie repeated.

The woman nodded. "Maybe it’s the eyes."

Kylie gave a small, awkward laugh. "Maybe."

She glanced toward Christian.

He was still staring at her.

She narrowed her eyes. "What?"

"Nothing."

"Then stop looking at me." She snapped at him.

His lips twitched. "I wasn’t doing anything."

"You were."

Taylor laughed quietly.

Kylie looked at her. "It was nice meeting you."

"Oh." Taylor smiled. "You too."

Kylie suddenly realized she hadn’t caught her name. "Sorry, I didn’t catch your name."

"Taylor."

Kylie smiled politely. "I’m Kylie."

"Nice to meet you, Kylie."

"You too."

She released another polite smile. Then her gaze moved toward Christian, and the smile disappeared.

"Have fun."

Christian’s eyebrow lifted. "That’s it?"

"What else should I say?"

He opened his mouth.

Kylie didn’t give him the opportunity. "Goodbye, Christian."

She turned around and walked away quickly. She could practically feel his eyes following her.

She refused to look back.

Not once.

She walked toward the cinema entrance, holding her snacks tightly as her heels clicked against the floor.

She could already imagine the expression on his face.

She could already see that smug little grin, and that irritating confidence. That look that always made her feel as though he knew something she didn’t.

Kylie shook her head.

Absolutely not. She wasn’t doing this tonight. She wasn’t going to think about Christian. She wasn’t going to wonder why he was there.

And she certainly wasn’t going to wonder whether he’d been watching her with that other guy.

She reached the doors, then stopped.

Her stomach twisted.

Kylie stood there for a few seconds, her hand still resting against the cinema door. Then, against her better judgment, she turned around.

Christian was still standing where she’d left him, Taylor beside him. The moment their eyes met, his familiar grin returned.

Kylie didn’t say anything.

Neither did he. Christian simply began walking toward her, slowly. One step at a time.

Kylie remained where she was, watching him approach. She could have walked inside. She knew she should. Instead, she waited.

When Christian finally reached her, he stopped directly in front of her.

For a few seconds, neither of them spoke.

His eyes moved over her face, lingering there.

Kylie searched his eyes, trying to figure out what he was thinking.

Christian tilted his head slightly. "A kiss?" he asked.

Kylie held his gaze. "On my cheek, yes."

A quiet chuckle escaped him. "Of course." He leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss against her cheek.

The kiss lasted barely a second.

He pulled back, with his eyes still on hers. "You’re sexy." He nodded to himself. "So sexy."

Kylie didn’t move. She didn’t even respond to his words. Finally, Christian gave her one last amused look before turning around.

He walked back toward Taylor as though nothing had happened.

Kylie watched him go. She immediately turned toward the cinema doors and walked inside.

Taylor watched Kylie disappear through the cinema doors before turning back to Christian.

"Can I put in some good words for you?" she asked, a small smile tugging at her lips.

Christian shook his head, slipping his hands into his pockets. "No. No need." His eyes remained on the doors Kylie had disappeared through. "She’ll come around."

Taylor raised an eyebrow. "You sound very confident."

Christian’s familiar grin returned. "I know her."
