Chapter 129: Chapter 129: Hypoglycemia

Vivian Lowell and Julian Faulkner went up to the second floor and returned to their room.

Thinking of Grandma Faulkner’s condition, Vivian decided to ask Julian about it.

"Is Grandma’s condition serious? Is she still taking medication every day?"

Vivian remembered seeing Grandma Faulkner taking medicine every morning and evening. Ms. Shaw would prepare warm water, bring it over to her, and stay by her side while she took her pills.

Julian nodded. "It’s fairly stable. She’s getting older, so she has slight high blood pressure. She usually measures it at home. Haven’t you helped her check her blood pressure before?

"She occasionally takes some medicine to stabilize it. Her heart has a minor issue too—some premature beats—but it’s nothing major. As long as she doesn’t get agitated, it’s generally fine."

People with coronary heart disease were prone to premature heartbeats. Vivian had some medical knowledge and knew that high blood pressure and coronary heart disease were common ailments among the elderly. Generally speaking, as long as one paid attention to their diet and took good care of themselves, there wouldn’t be any major problems.

But if that was the case, she wondered why Grandma Faulkner had run into complications in her previous life.

Vivian didn’t quite understand. After a moment of thought, she asked, "Um... so when she goes in for her follow-up checkup tomorrow, will they just be examining her blood pressure and heart condition?"

Julian nodded.

Vivian couldn’t draw any other conclusions. When she had looked at Grandma Faulkner earlier, she only felt that the elderly woman was in great spirits. There shouldn’t be any problems tomorrow, right?

Burdened by her thoughts, Vivian went to take a shower first.

When she returned, Julian was still handling official business. Looking at him sitting in front of his laptop from a distance, Vivian said, "Remember to rest early."

"Mhm." Julian agreed, then sent another message to Vance Wyatt.

"Hurry up with the lawsuit against the Lowell family. As for Shelly Lowell, find a way to recover the assets she took abroad. Just make sure she can’t fend for herself overseas. We don’t need to care about anything else."

Shelly didn’t have a green card abroad. If she truly ended up wandering the streets, it was highly uncertain whether anyone would bother helping her. The outcome awaiting her wouldn’t be good.

"Understood, President Faulkner," Vance replied quickly. By this time, it was already approaching 10:00 p.m.

After subconsciously checking the time, a remark Vivian had made to him earlier suddenly popped into Julian’s mind.

"Vance really works hard," she had said. "Even I like employees like him. However, as a boss, you should be considerate of your staff and not let them work too hard. Health is the greatest asset!"

Julian suddenly felt this made a lot of sense. As his assistant, Vance was practically on call around the clock. Even late at night, he would handle work affairs. It did seem a bit grueling. In the past, Julian only considered that this was how he worked himself; he never felt it was too harsh to demand the same of others. But Vivian had pointed out that not everyone could be like him. Julian thought she was absolutely right—Vance might not be able to handle it.

After some thought, Julian decided to send Vance one more message. "Rest early. Don’t stay up too late. If you can’t finish your work today, it’s fine to leave it for tomorrow."

Anyway, tomorrow was the weekend.

After sending the text, Julian read it over again and couldn’t help but nod, feeling as though he had managed to become a reasonable and understanding boss.

What he didn’t know was that at this moment, Vance, who was sitting in front of his computer, hadn’t replied instantly simply because the message had frightened him so much he nearly fell out of his chair.

He stared at the screen in disbelief. He wondered what President Faulkner had just sent. Rest early? Don’t stay up too late? Was the person on the other end of the connection really President Faulkner?

Vance was highly skeptical. If circumstances allowed, he would have crawled through the internet cable just to see if his boss had been possessed!

The next morning, Vivian woke up very early.

Concordia Hospital was extremely crowded on weekends. Even though they had booked a specialist appointment, it was better to go early. It was cold season, and the hospital was full of sick people. If Grandma Faulkner accidentally caught a cold, it would be bad. It was best to go while there were fewer people.

Upon arriving at the hospital, Julian went to check in for their appointment. Vivian accompanied Grandma Faulkner upstairs to wait outside the specialist’s consultation room until the doctor arrived.

At the door, Vivian helped Grandma Faulkner sit down on a bench.

"Vivian, sit down too." Grandma Faulkner tugged at Vivian and patted the empty space beside her, gesturing for her to take a seat.

Vivian nodded obediently and sat down beside her.

At that moment, Rachel, who was standing to the side, suddenly swayed and stumbled, nearly losing her footing.

"Rachel!" Ms. Shaw, who was right next to her, got a fright and quickly supported her.

Rachel looked a bit dazed, as if suffering from low blood sugar. "I woke up late this morning and didn’t eat breakfast," she said. "I think my blood sugar is a bit low.

"Vivian, could you go downstairs and buy me some breakfast? When we came in just now, I remember seeing quite a few places selling steamed buns. I’d like something to eat."

Vivian fell silent and cast a thoughtful glance at Rachel. Rachel’s face was a bit pale, but she had put on makeup. She woke up too late to eat breakfast, yet she had time to apply a base layer of makeup? Vivian felt that her words lacked credibility.

Just as Vivian was considering how to refuse, or whether to ask Julian—who was still downstairs getting their registration number—to buy the breakfast, Ms. Shaw spoke up first.

"Rachel, why don’t I go instead? You and Vivian can stay here and keep Mrs. Faulkner company."

Rachel was displeased to hear this. Pouting, she said, "But Ms. Shaw, you know Grandma’s condition best. If you leave, what if Grandma needs to take her medicine later?

"Vivian, could you please go? I’m begging you."

Vivian remained silent for a moment. Although she felt Rachel’s words sounded suspiciously like an excuse, Rachel did have a point. If Grandma Faulkner really felt unwell, it was Ms. Shaw who was in charge of preparing her medication. Ms. Shaw certainly knew best. If she wasn’t here, it truly wouldn’t be very convenient.

With Ms. Shaw present, other patients waiting at the door, and surveillance cameras around, Rachel shouldn’t be able to pull any tricks, right? Thinking this, Vivian felt a bit more at ease and sent a message to Julian first.

"Rachel has low blood sugar, so I’m going downstairs to buy her some food. Once you’re done, hurry upstairs to keep Grandma company, okay?"

Julian hadn’t replied yet. She wondered if there were just too many people queuing up.

Having no other choice, Vivian stood up and said to Ms. Shaw, "Ms. Shaw, I’ll have to trouble you to take good care of Grandma."

After speaking, she looked at Grandma Faulkner and added, "Grandma, your health isn’t great, and there are a lot of sick people in the hospital. Don’t wander around, okay?

"If you need anything, ask someone for help. I’ll be back shortly, and Julian should be coming up soon too."

Grandma Faulkner nodded, as obedient as a primary school student. "Go on, go on. I’ll be fine. Don’t worry about me."

Feeling much more reassured, Vivian finally headed downstairs.
