Chapter 130: Chapter 130: An Incident

Downstairs at Concordia Hospital.

Vivian Lowell bought two steamed buns for Rachel Faulkner. As she hurriedly made her way upstairs, she received a call from Julian Faulkner.

"Hello?"

Vivian thought it was a bit strange. Why was Julian suddenly calling her?

She had barely spoken a word when Julian’s urgent voice came through the receiver. "Grandma is missing!"

"What? How could this happen? I’ve only been downstairs for five minutes! Julian, what’s going on?"

"Just come up first. I’m going to look for her."

Julian didn’t have time to explain. The line went dead immediately after he finished speaking.

Vivian hung up the phone.

Listening to the BEEP, BEEP from the receiver, her mind raced with complex emotions.

She suddenly recalled how Grandma Faulkner’s condition had rapidly deteriorated in her previous life. Ignoring everything else and seeing the large crowd waiting for the elevator, she headed straight for the stairs.

It was the fifth floor—she could make it in one breath!

Back at the clinic’s entrance.

Vivian only saw Rachel sitting there with her head bowed, lost in thought.

Her face was somewhat pale. It was hard to tell if it was due to low blood sugar or because Grandma was missing.

"Rachel."

Vivian looked around but couldn’t spot Julian or Ms. Shaw. Handing the breakfast over, she asked, "Where did Grandma go?"

Rachel looked up at her.

Vivian wasn’t sure if it was just an illusion, but in that fleeting moment, a hint of a smile had surfaced on Rachel’s face. It was a strange smile, laced with mockery and ridicule. No matter how she looked at it, it gave off a malicious vibe.

But it lasted for only a split second.

A few seconds later, all Vivian could see on Rachel’s face was sheer sorrow.

Biting her lip, her eyes red with intense self-blame, Rachel said, "It’s all my fault. I needed to use the restroom earlier, but I felt dizzy and couldn’t walk steadily, so I asked Ms. Shaw to help me there. The restroom is very close, just a two-minute walk away. Who would have thought...

"When I came back, I bumped into Julian. He told me Grandma was missing! Vivian, where do you think she could have gone all by herself?"

Vivian desperately wanted to scold Rachel, but she didn’t know what to say.

If it were all true—if Rachel was genuinely feeling unwell and needed Ms. Shaw to escort her to the restroom—then it was completely understandable.

But Grandma Faulkner... She had been perfectly fine. Why would she suddenly wander off?

Vivian didn’t want to ask things like, "Why couldn’t you wait to go to the restroom until Julian or I got back?"

She didn’t want to guilt-trip her.

But she also knew... If Rachel had done it on purpose, then her and Julian’s absence provided the perfect opportunity.

"Just eat your breakfast. I’m going to look for Grandma."

Refusing to pay Rachel any more attention, Vivian threw down those words and turned toward the nurses’ station to ask if anyone had seen her.

"She has gray hair and was wearing a pair of pearl earrings. She..." Vivian described the old lady to the nurse at the station.

The nurse thought for a moment before asking, "Oh, are you the wife of the gentleman in the suit who was just here? He asked me the same thing earlier. Yes, I saw her. The elderly lady was originally sitting on that bench over there."

Pointing at the seat Grandma Faulkner had occupied, the nurse continued, "I was even wondering why such an elegant older woman was sitting all by herself. Then, she suddenly saw something in that direction."

The nurse pointed the other way toward a section for inpatients. "She hurried over there. She was walking really fast. I asked if she needed any help, but she said no."

"Thank you!"

Vivian quickly thanked the nurse and rushed in the direction she had pointed.

However, a few minutes later, Vivian realized she was too late.

As she arrived, she saw several nurses pushing two hospital gurneys toward her. She spotted Julian amidst the crowd.

Then, she noticed the person lying on the first gurney. It was a woman in her thirties, well-maintained with very fair skin.

But beneath her, around her waist and hips, was a massive pool of blood.

She was pregnant.

This...

Seeing all that blood, Vivian was horrified and felt a wave of nausea. But before she could dwell on it, she saw the person on the second gurney.

It was Grandma Faulkner!

Grandma Faulkner looked extremely agitated, clutching her chest while a nurse administered oxygen. She...

"Julian!"

Vivian quickly caught up to him and asked, "How is Grandma? Why is she suddenly having trouble breathing?"

A few minutes later, due to an abnormal heart rate, Grandma Faulkner was wheeled into the operating room for observation. Vivian and Julian remained waiting outside.

Only then did Julian explain the situation to Vivian.

"She saw Anni." Julian closed his eyes, his hands clenched into fists as if suppressing his anger. "I don’t know the exact details. By the time I got there, Anni was already lying on the stairs, covered in blood. Grandma was extremely agitated and having trouble breathing. She told me that she didn’t push Anni."

Vivian knew who Anni was. It had to be that pregnant woman.

Who was she? Why would there be such a conflict between her and Grandma Faulkner? And why did Julian look so infuriated right now?

Vivian desperately wanted to ask. But she was afraid that the story behind this incident would trigger his unpleasant memories.

She hesitated.

But soon enough, Julian gently tugged at Vivian’s sleeve. Having seemingly calmed himself down, he said, "Let’s sit down, and I’ll tell you about Annie."

"Okay."

Vivian agreed, sitting down with Julian outside the operating room.

"Julian, Vivian, how is Grandma? I just heard a nurse say that an elderly lady pushed a pregnant woman. That pregnant woman... was it Grandma? Was it Grandma who did it?"

Rachel came stumbling over.

Seeing her, Ms. Shaw shook her head, gesturing for her not to speak so loudly outside the operating room.

Rachel fell silent.

Julian looked up, his sharp gaze sweeping over Rachel. Then, he asked flatly, "Did you know about Annie suddenly showing up at the hospital?"

Faced with his question, the bit of color that had returned to Rachel’s face drained away in an instant, leaving her deathly pale.

She took a half-step back, looking at Julian with a stiff, awkward smile. "How would I know? Annie... Annie actually came back to the country?"

"Then, what about Dad?"
