Chapter 161: Chapter 161: Explosion

The explosion occurred without warning.

Vivian clearly saw that the timer on the device had stopped. According to the tropes she had seen in movies, there shouldn’t have been any problems.

But it still exploded.

After Vivian pushed the door open, a tremor came from inside. The noise was loud, but what followed was the release of white smoke.

Her vision blurred, and her mind grew fuzzy. Drained of strength, she could no longer stand steady. Before passing out, Vivian bit her lip hard to stay awake. But it was too difficult; even after tasting blood in her mouth, she still gradually lost consciousness.

Just before she completely blacked out, Vivian seemed to see the person in the chair in front of her stand up.

Rachel stood up.

The ropes binding her hands had fallen to the ground at some point. Rachel walked over, picked up a communication device from a corner on the floor, and spoke into it.

Vivian couldn’t hear a sound. She only saw Rachel approach her after finishing the call. Rachel seemed to notice that Vivian hadn’t completely passed out yet. She looked a bit surprised and slightly panicked, but only for a split second.

Because soon after, Vivian’s world went completely dark.

When she woke up again, Vivian’s hands and feet were bound. Her mouth was taped shut with what felt like black duct tape, reducing her to muffled whimpers and preventing her from speaking.

She had been kidnapped!

Recalling the moments before she passed out, Vivian remembered the scene of fainting right after her fingerprint successfully unlocked the door. A small explosion had occurred. It seemed like the doors or windows had blown out, but the main issue was the smoke—a knockout gas!

Rachel was fine! The smoke hadn’t affected her at all!

As expected, Rachel was plotting something. Was she brought here by Rachel or her people?

Her head spun violently, feeling like she had just woken up from a terrible hangover. She tried to stand but was met with a wave of dizziness and a complete lack of strength.

Where was she?

Vivian glanced around and found that her surroundings looked very much like the inside of a shipping container.

A shipping container?!

Vivian found it strange. She barely moved her body, wanting to see if there was anything useful around her, when someone holding a flashlight walked over from the container’s entrance not far ahead.

"Don’t move," the person said in a ghostly tone.

The voice sounded very familiar. Vivian instantly recognized it—it was Robert’s voice.

Hearing his voice, Vivian felt an almost physiological wave of disgust. She had considered many possibilities and wondered who was hiding behind the scenes trying to harm her like this. After all, she and Rachel didn’t really have any deep-seated hatred between them.

Robert, however, was different.

To him, the Lowell Family was essentially destroyed by Vivian’s hands. If she hadn’t been so ruthless, the Lowells wouldn’t be in their current state. He had every reason to hate her and every motive to harm her.

So, had Robert and Rachel teamed up to deal with her?

Robert knew the lawsuit couldn’t be won and that he was facing prison time. Having been a boss for most of his life, he definitely couldn’t accept suddenly becoming a prisoner. No wonder he made such a desperate counterattack.

How ruthless.

Thinking this, Vivian subconsciously shrank back a couple of steps.

"Vivian, I didn’t expect that when we father and daughter met again, it would be in a situation like this. When you sued us before, did you ever think our positions would be reversed?

"That the pathetic one waiting for someone to save her would be you?"

Robert laughed after he spoke. Clearly, his mind had twisted to the extreme!

Vivian couldn’t speak. If she could, she would definitely curse Robert out and expose his ugly heart, even though she knew her words would be useless. Robert would probably only fly into a rage out of humiliation and do something even more extreme.

Vivian looked at him in silence. After laughing to himself for a while, Robert probably felt it was pointless and stopped smiling. He walked up to her step by step. Stopping very close to her, he asked, "Do you know what I plan to do to you?"

Vivian shook her head.

"This is a shipping container. Soon, a truck will come and transport the containers here to the coast," Robert said.

"These goods are all meant to be shipped overseas. You’ll be put on the truck and taken to the coast. Then, along with the container, you’ll sink to the bottom of the sea.

"It will just be an accident; no one will know why it happened. Of course, by the time you’re found, it might be a very, very long time from now.

"You’re quite lucky, aren’t you? At least this container will serve as your coffin, your grave."

After he finished speaking, his eyes grew completely cold. He gritted his teeth and said, "Why aren’t you my daughter? Why did you have to be so heartless and leave immediately after finding out your true identity?!

"If you had just continued to work for the Lowell Family, I would have treated you the same as before! You brought all of this upon yourself!"

Robert seemed extremely furious. He could never figure out what good leaving the Lowell Family did for Vivian. After she lost Mason, he could have just found someone else for her to marry. As long as the Lowell Family continued to develop, Vivian wouldn’t have had to worry about finding a good in-law family.

Yet, she betrayed them! She caused the company’s affairs to be exposed, and even Shelly...

Thinking of Shelly, Robert sighed. She was his real daughter. At this point, he only hoped she could live a slightly better life. This was the last thing he could do for her.

Robert stopped talking. He just squatted at the entrance of the container, occasionally taking out his phone to check the time, waiting for who knew what.

Vivian also looked outside. The sky was still bright. Judging by the sunlight, it was probably noon. Over three hours had passed since she was knocked out.

She wondered what the situation was with Julian. Was Grandma Faulkner discharged from the hospital? She hadn’t shown up, and she wondered if Grandma Faulkner would be worried. As for herself... she had already made everything clear to Julian over the phone earlier. If something really happened to her, Julian would be able to handle it well, right?

With many thoughts swirling in her mind, Vivian used this brief window of time to inspect the inside of the container.

It was clean and completely empty. All of Vivian’s belongings, including her phone and small purse, had been taken away. She couldn’t find a single useful tool.

Could she ambush Robert?

Vivian had learned judo. If Robert dozed off now, she might have a chance, but she didn’t know if he had any other men around the container. With a sneak attack, dealing with one or two men would be her limit. If there were more, she definitely wouldn’t stand a chance.

No matter what, she still had to try.

Vivian made up her mind. Just as she was about to look for an opportunity, hurried footsteps approached from outside the container.

"Robert! Bad news, the Faulkners have found us! Hurry, we have to leave!"

Sharon appeared from nowhere, looking at Robert with an anxious expression.

Hearing this, Robert looked up at Sharon, gritted his teeth, and cursed, "Run? Why run? We haven’t gotten our revenge yet! Besides, we still have her in our hands!

"With her here, do you think the Faulkners won’t submit?!"

After he finished speaking, he tilted his head and shot Vivian a very hostile glare. His intentions were glaringly obvious.

Robert was going to use Vivian as a hostage!

Hearing his words, Sharon also cast a meaningful glance at Vivian. Finally, as if she had made up her mind, she nodded.

"Okay. Stay safe. I’ll leave first."

Sharon turned and left, leaving Robert and Vivian inside the container.

"Stand up."

Robert walked up to Vivian, pulled a small knife from his pants pocket, and held it right across her neck.
