Kicked Out, Flash-Married, and Now He Won't Let Me Go
Chapter 162: HostageChapter 162: Chapter 162: Hostage
Vivian Lowell couldn’t fight back.
Her hands and feet were bound. If she moved even slightly, Robert Lowell, who held her from behind, could stab her in the neck with a small knife.
Vivian could only endure for now and do as Robert said.
She stood up and was immediately led out of the shipping container.
"When we get out, you tell Julian Faulkner to get a boat, passports, and cash! Arrange for us to leave the country! No funny business!"
Robert Lowell ripped the black tape off Vivian Lowell’s mouth.
The motion was rough, making Vivian wince in pain as tears welled up in her eyes.
’Passports, a boat, and cash to leave Veridia?’
Vivian sneered inwardly. ’Robert Lowell has some nerve. This is a society governed by law, yet all he can think about is breaking it?’
Besides, Robert had used the word "us."
’Does that mean he plans to take me with them?’
...
Vivian had no intention of remaining a hostage in the hands of the Lowells.
She knew Sharon Galahad’s character all too well. Once they were sure they were safe and that the Faulkners couldn’t find them anytime soon, she would definitely be silenced for good.
’I can’t just sit here and wait to die!’
Vivian closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and decided to clear her head and organize her thoughts.
She heard a car speeding away. Recalling what Sharon Galahad had said earlier, Vivian couldn’t help but ask, "Was that Sharon Galahad leaving?"
"She’s gone. You think you’re going somewhere?"
"Shut up!" Robert seemed either too annoyed to bother with her or simply angry. After his furious outburst, he said nothing more.
Vivian remained perfectly calm. Pondering Robert’s sudden anger, she smirked and asked, "Don’t you hate Sharon Galahad?"
"You probably didn’t know she embezzled company funds, did you? I actually found out about it a long time ago. I secretly balanced the books for her but kept some evidence for myself."
"She’s so brazen, daring to just take company money. You’ve always said the Lowell Family is in this mess because of me. Is that really true?"
"Or isn’t it because of Sharon Galahad? Now that things have come to this, with the Faulkners on their way, Sharon has fled, leaving you here to use me as a bargaining chip against them."
"Even if the Faulkners agree to your demands, do you really think they’ll let you just walk away from here?"
The hand Robert Lowell had on Vivian Lowell trembled slightly.
Based on what Vivian knew of Robert, she could imagine the ugly expression on his face right now.
She had guessed right.
Deep down, Robert harbored resentment toward Sharon Galahad.
And it ran deep.
It was just that they had reached some sort of agreement to use Vivian to their advantage, so Robert had no choice but to go along with it.
"Enough of your nonsense!"
Robert managed to stay relatively calm. He knew he couldn’t let his enemy, Vivian, "divide and conquer," so he insisted, "The Lowell Family’s problems are all because of you!"
"Oh."
Vivian detected a hint of uncertainty in his tone. She chuckled softly and said, "Is that so? I wish it were that simple."
"Robert Lowell. To be honest, I don’t hate you that much. After all, Sharon Galahad has always been the one hurting me. She’s the only one I truly want to go after."
"How about you hand her over to me? I can help you get what you want from the Faulkners. What do you say?"
Vivian was slowly trying to tempt and threaten him.
Robert hesitated, not answering.
But it was too late. Members of the Faulkner Family, along with the police, had already appeared before Vivian.
"Ma’am!"
"Vivian!"
Vivian saw Julian Faulkner and Vance Wyatt, along with a large group of police officers. Some held guns, others carried shields, and all wore bulletproof vests. Their equipment was top-notch, and they were clearly a well-trained unit.
Seeing them, Vivian felt a great sense of relief. She let out a quiet sigh and continued speaking to Robert, "Do you see those guns?"
"There might even be snipers in the distance. I’m smaller than you; they’ll eventually find their shot. What I just told you still stands."
"If you agree, I can let you go. This is your last chance. Think it over. Otherwise... once Julian Faulkner makes his move, things won’t be this easy."
After Vivian finished speaking, Robert fell silent.
This time, he didn’t refuse outright. Vivian knew he was wavering.
Vivian looked at Julian, who was also looking at her. His eyes were filled with anxiety, and he seemed to be covertly arranging for his men to make a move.
With a look, Vivian told Julian she was fine and that he should wait and not act rashly.
Julian seemed to understand. For the time being, he and his men remained where they were, in a standoff with Vivian and Robert.
「A long moment passed.」
Finally, as if deflating, Robert asked, "What do I have to do? And you should show some good faith to make me believe you."
"Sorry, but in my current state, I can’t exactly show you my good faith."
Vivian felt a bit helpless. ’Even now, all Robert can think about is his own benefit,’ she thought, then said, "But..."
"Honestly, you don’t have any better options right now, do you? Trusting me is your only way out."
Robert didn’t speak, seeming to resist the idea.
He had too few paths to choose from, and they all looked like traps, making it difficult to decide.
Vivian knew Robert was wavering and gave him no more time to think. "Put the knife on the ground and kick it toward Julian."
"Then get on the ground with your hands on your head. I’ll tell him you mean no harm, and his people won’t do anything to you."
"However... I can let you go. But afterward, you’ll need to tell us some things we want to know. Understand?"
Robert still didn’t speak.
But Vivian could feel the small knife at her neck slowly loosening.
Robert did as Vivian said.
He took two steps back, released Vivian, and placed the knife on the ground. As he kicked it toward Julian, he said, "I’m unarmed."
"I won’t hurt her, Julian Faulkner. I hope you can let me go and give me a chance to live."
After he finished speaking, Robert crouched on the ground with his hands over his head.
Vivian knew this was her chance and immediately rushed toward Julian.
Although her feet were also tied, she could at least hop. So she hopped over, somewhat comically, until she reached Julian.
"Vivian Lowell!"
Julian Faulkner embraced Vivian Lowell.
Vivian leaned against Julian and said, "Don’t... not yet..."
’Don’t kill Robert Lowell. He knows a lot. We can get information from him, like the whereabouts of Shelly Lowell and Sharon Galahad.’
Vivian hadn’t finished her thought.
But just then, a gunshot rang out.
BANG.
Vivian whipped her head around to see that Robert Lowell had been shot between the eyes. His eyelids fluttered, and he collapsed to the ground, his eyes still wide with disbelief.
