Knot me on ice, Captain(BL)

Chapter 345: Wrong Favorite Song

Rhys

Seeing Kayden on stage that night blew away every trace of my stress. I was so proud that he was mine.

Proud to be standing here, about to marry someone so breathtakingly beautiful.

When the music started and he began to move, my breath caught in my throat.

I was instantly thrown back to the first time I saw him again after all those months—that sudden, overwhelming pull, the exact moment I realized I was utterly captivated by him.

Tonight was on a whole different level.

Every slow roll of his shoulders, every fluid twist of his waist under the royal-blue mesh accentuating his bump, made a tight heat coil low in my gut.

I stood back off to the side, my eyes locked on him as a sudden bulge pressed heavily against the front of my trousers.

All I could think about was dragging him off that stage, pinning him down against the nearest flat surface, and taking my time with him until he was breathless and completely undone under me.

When the routine finally ended, I stood near the back of the stage, clapping loudly along with the rest of the guys.

I couldn’t take my eyes off him. His face was flushed, his makeup was completely flawless, and his eyes were sparkling under the bright spotlights.

Looking at him right then, I fell in love with him all over again.

Once the performance cleared, it was time to move on to the rest of the night’s agenda.

Leo had officially taken the microphone as the master of ceremonies, which immediately signaled to me that we were in for a long, chaotic evening.

I took a seat on one of the plush chairs on stage alongside Miller and the rest of our Northern Avalanche teammates. I leaned sideways, keeping my voice low.

"Do you have any idea what else Leo is planning?" I muttered to Miller.

Before Miller could answer, Leo sauntered right up to the front of our line.

He adjusted his outfit with a wicked grin that made my stomach drop.

"Since you guys have been teammates with Kayden for months now," Leo announced smoothly into his lapel mic, "we are going to play a quick trivia game! I have a list of questions about Kayden’s life and career. But here is the twist—if any of you miss a question..."

Leo paused dramatically, pointing a finger up toward the rafters. We all looked up simultaneously to see massive, clear buckets suspended directly above our seats, filled to the brim with bright neon-green slime.

"...you get hit with a full bucket of slime!" Leo finished with a delighted chuckle.

I turned back to Miller, my eyes wide. "When did he plan this? When did he even find the time when you guys were supposed to be on your honeymoon?"

Miller let out a long sigh, shaking his head in quiet defeat. "I have no idea, man. But he’s been wearing that exact same evil grin all week long. I knew it wasn’t just about the honeymoon."

"Oh, we are in serious trouble," I whispered.

"No side chatter over there, Captain!" Leo snapped playfully, narrowing his eyes at me. "Talk back again and I’ll trigger your bucket right now."

I shut my mouth instantly and looked over at Kayden, who was sitting a short distance away near the front row, holding a stack of thick cue cards containing the answers.

I gave him a pleading look, nonverbally asking for a hint. Kayden just gave me an adorable, helpless little shrug, smiling back like he had no intention of saving me.

Leo raised his arms to the room. "Are you all ready?!"

"Ready!" Jaxson roared from his chair.

"Let’s do it!" Theo added, grinning.

"I didn’t sign up to get green goop in my hair!" Luca complained, though he was already laughing.

"Bring it on!" Philip shouted.

"Let the interrogation begin!" Leo declared.

He launched straight into the first round of questions. "Question one: What exact month did Kayden officially sign his contract with the Northern Avalanche?"

Jaxson didn’t even hesitate. "October!"

"Correct!" Leo said. "No slime yet!"

"Question two," Leo continued. "What game did Kayden score his very first professional career goal?"

Theo snapped his fingers. "Against the Wolves in the first period!"

"Correct again!" Leo noted.

"Question three," Leo said, turning his gaze slowly toward our row, his smile growing wide. "On what exact date did Kayden and Rhys start dating?"

A sudden silence fell over the rest of the guys. Jaxson scratched his head, Theo bit his lip, and Luca just stared up at the bucket above his head with a look of pure acceptance.

A soft warmth spread through my chest as my mind instantly drifted back to that night. I remembered the cool evening air, the nervous way my hands had trembled, and the sheer, unadulterated joy that crashed over me the exact second Kayden smiled, leaned in, and agreed to be my boyfriend.

"November fourteenth," I said cleanly, a bright, confident smile taking over my face. "Midnight at the lake city pier."

Leo checked the card. "Rhys is correct!"

Before the rest of the team could even react, the release levers above their heads clicked, and thick green slime dumped straight onto Jaxson, Theo, Luca, and Philip all at once.

The room erupted into loud laughter as the four of us sat there drenched, while I sat completely dry and untouched in the middle of the chaos.

The trivia continued for another twenty minutes. Question after question was fired off, and without fail, the rest of the guys kept getting it wrong while I answered almost everything flawlessly.

Miller groaned, wiping a streak of green slime off his shoulder. "This isn’t fair! They’re literally engaged! They’ve been living together for months, of course he knows every single tiny detail!"

Leo looked over at Miller with zero sympathy. "Quit complaining, babe, and just enjoy the slime. It’s good for your skin."

"Alright, final question!" Leo announced, holding up the last card. "What is Kayden’s absolute favorite song of all time?"

I smiled, feeling completely secure. I adjusted my posture and spoke up loud and clear. " easy. Yellow by Coldplay."

Kayden winced slightly from his chair, biting his lip.

A heavy wave of cold green slime came crashing down right onto my head, soaking my hair, my face, and the front of my clothes. The entire hall burst into hysterical laughter.
