Knot me on ice, Captain(BL)

Chapter 353: Ice, Confetti, and Contractions

Kayden

Five months later,

"And just now, Rhys Calder is about to win his fourth championship in a row as the captain of the Northern Avalanche!" the stadium announcer’s voice boomed over the speakers, echoing through the packed, roaring arena.

Winning four championships in a row—a legendary four-peat—was a feat almost unheard of in modern hockey and now Rhys was closed to breaking one of the hardest record.

I smiled, sitting in the private front-row section, my eyes locked on the ice.

Rhys moved smoothly toward the opponent’s net, setting up the absolute final play of the night that would seal their victory. He had a clear shot to score himself, but as he closed in, he glanced over at Raymond. Rhys gave him a quick, decisive nod and slid a slick pass across the ice.

Raymond caught the puck right on his tape and slapped it straight into the back of the net just as the final buzzer blared through the building.

"That is it! The Northern Avalanche have won the Stanley Cup again this year against the Southbridge Bears!" the commentator shouted into his microphone. "A four-peat victory for the Avalanche! What an incredible legacy Rhys Calder is cementing, and it looks like his brother, Raymond Calder, is ready to carry that exact same torch after scoring the game-winning goal!"

A wild scream tore from my throat as I clapped my hands happily, laughing out loud. I rested a gentle hand over my heavy stomach, rubbing it through my soft sweater. I couldn’t help but smile, thinking about just how far the Northern Avalanche had come over these past few months while adjusting to a new CEO—and how much our own lives had shifted as we prepared to become parents.

After the official NHL draft, Raymond had been signed to the team, stepping up to take my former position as the left defender. Watching him and Rhys leading the team side-by-side on the ice was such an amazing sight.

Part of me wished I could be out there skating alongside them, but I knew that was impossible right now. I mean, who would expect a heavily pregnant omega to run around in such a high-contact, strenuous game?

Rhys would literally break his own leg before he ever let me step onto the ice in this condition.

But I was coming back stronger in the next season.

"Go Northern Avalanche!" I screamed at the top of my lungs as the entire bench cleared, the team rushing out onto the ice in pure chaos. "Northern Avalanche!"

I screamed like a total fanboy, raising a custom banner with Rhys’s name on it that read: I LOVE YOU, MY DEAR HUSBAND!

Five months. It had been five incredible months of being married to Rhys.

Even though he had been completely swamped with the intense hockey season, he always made sure to pay attention to me. He would literally skip a team practice before he ever left me alone, especially on the days when my body was sore or aching.

And on top of that... we had found out we were having twins.

Who would have thought? A person like me, who had almost lost all hope of ever having a baby, was now going to become a father to two little ones.

Rhys and I were actually going to be parents. Any day now, I was going to enter labor and start this brand-new Chapter.

Miracles really do happen when you least expect them, and this was my moment. I was getting my miracle.

"We won, Kayden!" Rhys shouted, waving his gloved hand frantically in my direction as he skated over to the glass partition—the acrylic dasher boards separating the ice from the fans. "We won!"

I blew him a handful of dramatic kisses, screaming back in pure excitement. "You did it, Ice Captain! I am so proud of you, husband!"

I completely forgot about all the fans and cameras staring at me from every angle. I didn’t care at all. I just kept screaming, clapping, and pointing back toward the tunnel, promising him with my gestures that I would join him in the locker room as soon as the on-ice ceremony wrapped up.

When I shouted "husband," a bunch of his teammates skated over behind him, grinning and waving at me, too. Raymond, Jaxton, Miller, Luca, Theo, and the rest of the guys all cheered, making silly faces and waving their sticks in my direction.

The trophy ceremony started almost immediately. The NHL commissioner stepped out onto the ice platform, speaking into the microphone to congratulate both teams before calling the Northern Avalanche players up to the podium.

As I watched them walk up, I felt a familiar, nostalgic tug in my chest. It reminded me of winning the Cup just last year, making me realize just how much I truly missed the ice. But watching my husband stand up there made every sacrifice worth it.

Once the speeches were finished, the Northern Avalanche was officially announced as the champions.

Rhys stepped up first, grabbing the heavy silver Stanley Cup and lifting it high above his head, letting out a loud, victorious roar as the team erupted around him.

I carefully climbed down the stairs toward the player entrance gate, holding a gorgeous bouquet of flowers I had bought for him. I leaned against the dasher board rail and yelled his name as loud as I could.

"Rhys Vale Calder!"

Rhys heard me instantly. He didn’t even hesitate—he turned around, leaving the group celebration behind, and skated directly toward me. The arena staff quickly unlatched the small glass door gate for him, and he stepped through onto the rubber matting where I was waiting.

"I got you these flowers knowing you’d win today because you are the greatest captain ever," I muttered, smiling softly as I handed the bouquet out to him.

Instead of taking the flowers, Rhys completely ignored them. He stepped forward and pulled me straight into his broad arms, hugging me tightly yet gently so he wouldn’t press against my bump. He cupped my face with his warm hands and leaned down, kissing me deeply right there in front of the entire arena.

"Thank you, baby," he whispered against my lips, his eyes shining with pure love. "I love you so much."

"I love you too," I responded, wrapping my arms snugly around his neck and hugging him back with everything I had.

Suddenly, a strange, intense rush of fluid flooded between my legs. My eyes widened in total shock, and I quickly pulled back, raising my head to look at Rhys.

Rhys was already staring down at the floor, his own eyes wide with utter panic.

A loud gasp escaped my lips as I felt a sudden, heavy gush hit my shoes.

"You’re... you’re leaking!" Rhys stammered out, his voice cracking as he looked back up at me in absolute horror. "Kayden... your water just broke!"

Before I could even process what he said, a massive, painful contraction hit my lower back like a freight train. I doubled over slightly, grabbing onto his suit jacket for dear life.

"Ow! Why here?!" I groaned out, clutching my stomach. "Why did it have to happen right here of all places?!"

"Okay, okay! Calm down, babe! Just calm down!" Rhys yelled frantically, his hands hovering over me as if he didn’t know where to touch.

"I AM CALMING DOWN!" I yelled back, my face turning bright red as another sharp wave hit me.

Rhys’s eyes went wide , the mighty Ice Captain completely losing his cool in a split second. "Medics! Someone call the medics right now! My Husband is having our babies!"
