Rhys

Kayla and Rowan Vale Calder were born on May 13, 2026, just two minutes apart. Kayla came into the world first as a true Alpha, followed closely by Rowan as an Omega.

Because Kayden was a male Omega, the delivery required a surgical C-section procedure.

The three hours in the waiting room felt like an eternity, but the very second the doctors brought them out, all my anxiety vanished. They were, without a doubt, the absolute most beautiful sight I had ever laid eyes on.

"Let me hold them," Kayden muttered weakly the moment he woke up from the anesthesia in the private recovery ward.

One of the nurses gently helped lift the babies, who were wrapped snugly in soft blue and pink blankets, and handed them into Kayden’s arms.

"Our beautiful babies... Kayla and Rowan," Kayden said proudly, his voice thick with emotion as he looked up at me.

I stepped up behind his hospital bed, wrapping my arms around him gently to pull him close.

"You did well, my love," I whispered softly, leaning down to press a lingering kiss against the top of his head. "You did so great."

Kayden smiled, bringing the two tiny bundles closer against his chest. "Look at them, Rhys... they look so pink and so beautiful. The absolute best son and daughter we could ever ask for."

As if hearing her father’s voice, tiny Kayla blinked her eyes open.

Kayden gasped softly. "Wow... Rhys, look! She has your exact eyes!"

"And she has your beautiful face," I replied with a warm chuckle. I looked over at Rowan, resting my thumb gently against his tiny cheek. "And this little guy looks just like me, but he’s got your eyes. We’re really parents, Kayden. I am so, so proud of us."

"Where are my babies?!" a loud, familiar voice suddenly boomed from the entrance of the ward.

The door swung open, and Leo strode in with Miller right behind him.

"Oh my goodness! Look at them!" Leo squealed, rushing to the side of the bed. "They are so adorable! Look at their mild physiological jaundice and that beautiful newborn vernix residual! A medically perfect pair!"

Miller facepalmed hard, letting out a heavy sigh as he exchanged an exhausted look with me. I just laughed it off—at this point, everyone was completely used to Leo’s dramatic medical commentary.

"Oh goodness, they are so small," Leo cooed, carefully scooping up Kayla into his arms before aggressively gesturing at Miller. "Miller, pick up Rowan right now! Look at how gorgeous they are! I can’t believe I love children this much!" He immediately leaned down, making high-pitched baby noises at Kayla. "Yes you are! You’re the prettiest little Alpha princess!"

Miller groaned, shaking his head as he held Rowan securely. "Oh please, Leo. They were born a few hours ago. They can’t understand a single word of your gibberish, let alone talk back."

"I know that, babe!" Leo fired back, rolling his eyes dramatically. "I am a doctor, of course I know that!"

I chuckled, turning my attention back to Kayden, who was quietly watching Leo and Miller hover over our newborn twins.

"Are you alright, my love?" I asked softly, shifting closer to focus entirely on him.

"I’m fine," Kayden murmured, though a slight frown touched his lips. "I just... because of me, you were unable to go to the championship celebration party with the rest of the team. I really wanted you to be there to celebrate winning the Cup with them."

I shook my head firmly, reaching out to take his hand in mine. "Nothing in this world matters more than you and our children, my love. I don’t care about a post-game party when you need me. So fuck the match and fuck the party, because you always come first. No matter what."

"I am Uncle Leo, and I am going to spoil you rotten, princess," Leo was busy muttering to Kayla, before turning to beam at Rowan in Miller’s arms. "And you too, my little prince!"

The second the words left Leo’s mouth, both babies suddenly let out high-pitched, synchronized wails, crying at the top of their lungs.

Leo froze, looking at me in utter betrayal.

Kayden let out a soft chuckle. "It seems like the babies really don’t like your voice at all, Leo."

The entire room burst into laughter at Leo’s offended face.

"Are the babies hungry?" I asked once the laughter settled down, listening to their persistent crying. "Should I go call the hospital for a wet nurse or are the babies taking formula?"

Leo was just about to nod, but Kayden suddenly let out a sharp gasp.

Everyone’s eyes snapped toward him.

Kayden was wearing a loose cotton hospital gown, and right over his chest, two small, dark wet spots were rapidly blooming through the thin fabric.

"Wait... how is that even possible?" Miller asked instantly, staring in shock.

Leo blinked, staring at Kayden’s chest in dead silence for a few seconds.

I stood there completely stunned, waiting for Leo to speak up because I had never heard of a male Omega lactating before.

"So? Why is this happening to me?!" Kayden demanded frantically, his face turning bright red as he stared down at his wet gown. "I’m leaking, and the babies won’t stop crying!"

"I’ll go get a doctor," I said quickly, turning toward the door.

"Wait, Rhys," Leo said slowly, his brain clearly working through the medical anomaly. "I think... because Kayden is a rare Omega Primus, and because your bond compatibility as an Alpha is practically off the charts, his body triggered an emergency hormonal surge to supply milk for the babies. It’s a biological miracle seen in less than one percent of male Omegas!"

I paused at the door, listening to him.

"To be entirely sure, go get the attending Doctor," Leo added, gesturing toward the hallway. "And get a wet nurse in here temporarily while the doctor checks him out, because those babies need to eat right now."

I nodded sharply and rushed out into the corridor.

Within minutes, I returned with the lead doctor and a nurse. The nurse gently gathered the crying twins to take them for a temporary feeding, while the doctor asked Miller, Leo, and me to step out into the hallway so he could examine Kayden privately.

I paced back and forth across the polished hospital floor, my nerves on edge while Leo tried to keep me calm.

"Look at it this way, Rhys," Leo said smoothly. "An Omega Primus lactating isn’t dangerous. It’s just a rare biological response to high Alpha compatibility and the sound of his own distress-crying newborns. It just means his body is completely synchronized with those twins."

I sighed, rubbing the back of my neck. "I don’t care about the medical rarity, Leo. I’m just glad Kayden and the babies are healthy and fine."

A moment later, the doctor stepped out of the ward, pulling off his gloves with a reassuring smile. "Everything is in perfect order," the doctor confirmed smoothly. "Kayden’s vitals are stable, and the lactation is completely natural for an omega Primus. He is fully capable of nursing the babies going forward."

Relief washed over me. When I walked back into the room, Kayden was already fast asleep, exhausted from the long day. I walked over to his bedside and pressed a warm kiss against his smooth forehead.

"Rhys, go home, get a fresh change of clothes, and catch a few hours of sleep," Leo urged quietly from the corner. "You’ve been up for thirty-six hours straight with the game and the birth. We’ll stay right here with Kayden."

I hesitated at first, not wanting to leave his side, but seeing how peacefully Kayden was sleeping, I finally gave in. "Alright. I’ll be back in two hours."

I grabbed my jacket and headed down to the hospital parking garage, where my driver, Benjamin, and my chief bodyguard, Martins, were waiting by the SUV.

I slid into the plush leather back seat, letting out a deep, heavy sigh as I sank against the headrest. "Drive us home, Benjamin," I muttered quietly.

Just as the car pulled out of the garage, my phone vibrated in my pocket. I pulled it out to check the caller ID.

The screen flashed with a name I hadn’t expected to see so soon: Richard Calder.

My father was calling.
