Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Please me

Amelia held herself back from answering. The sharp retort sat on her tongue, but she swallowed it. Her expression, however, betrayed her. Heat had already begun to color her cheeks and soften her eyes; her body answered in an alluring way that was the exact opposite of what she wanted... and somehow exactly what she needed.

The music on the stage shifted into something slower, richer. The melody wound around her like a mild hypnotic pull, loosening the tight coil of panic in her chest. Her body began to sway almost without permission, following the rhythm.

A slanted bed waited at the center of the stage, draped in dark silk.

Reid pulled her in without warning. His mouth crashed against hers in a deep, claiming kiss as he guided her backward and down onto the soft surface. The dominance in the motion made her knees give out completely. Her head spun.

Too fast—this is too fast—

When his hand slid lower and squeezed her ass firmly, a jolt of pure pleasure shot up her spine and made her jerk against him.

"Ah—"

He broke the kiss just enough to murmur against her lips, voice rough with satisfaction. "That’s payback."

She had no idea what he meant.

Arousal flooded her so quickly it left her dizzy. Reid moved lower, trailing open-mouthed kisses down her body, lingering at the soft skin just above the waistband of her outfit before settling between her thighs. He never fully broke contact, breath warm against her.

"Already trembling," he said quietly, almost to himself. "Good."

Enzo took both of her wrists and pinned it above her head against the silk. His grip was firm, but his pulse beat hard against her skin.

She smells even better like this. The thought irritated him. He should have been focused only on the performance required of them. Instead his attention kept snagging on every small sound she made.

Dean’s mouth found the side of her throat, then her collarbone, then the soft upper curve of her breast. Each kiss was slow, teeth grazing just enough to make her body tremble.

"Breathe," he murmured against her skin. "Don’t hold it in."

The knowledge that dozens of eyes were watching should have drowned her in embarrassment. Instead it only pushed the heat higher. Her core ached, already so wet that the thin fabric between her legs felt useless.

Soft, helpless sounds began to escape her throat; she could no longer keep them locked inside.

"Please...don’t—"

Reid’s hands slid under her hips, lifting her slightly as he pressed an open-mouthed kiss directly against the soaked fabric.

"Louder," he said, the word vibrating against her. "Let them hear you."

Amelia’s back arched. Another broken moan slipped free before she could stop it.

This is insane. I’m going to fall apart in front of everyone— And still her body kept answering every touch, every command, as if it had been waiting for exactly this.

Then the air changed.

Soft pink petals drifted across the stage, catching the light like scattered confetti. Tiny flowers began pushing up through the wooden boards and even at where the audience sat, blooming in rapid clusters. More followed—different colors, different shapes—spilling across the floor and climbing the edges of the platform.

Murmurs rose from the audience.

"Is this part of the performance?"

"I’ve never seen effects like this at a mating ceremony..."

"It’s beautiful, actually."

"Beautiful? It’s getting out of control."

The flowers kept spreading. They crawled onto the slanted bed itself. Petals loosened and fell across Amelia’s bare skin and the men’s hands. Only then did the brothers freeze and look around properly.

They all looked down at Amelia at the same moment.

She stared at the blossoms growing with wide eyes. "Am I... doing this?"

Enzo’s voice was low, edged with sudden understanding. "This makes sense now. You’re the one who caused the other unnatural changes too."

There was no time to dwell on it.

Every alpha instinct in the three men flared at once. Enzo hauled Amelia off the bed and into his arms. Reid and Dean moved with him, clearing the stage in seconds.

Amelia didn’t understand the urgency until a massive shadow swallowed the light above them. She tipped her head back.

A large meteor hurtled toward the exact spot where the stage stood.

Screams erupted. More burning shapes streaked through the sky. The first meteor smashed into the platform with a deafening roar, shattering everything. The audience scattered in every direction. Those who couldn’t move fast enough were crushed beneath the impacts.

"AAhhhh—!"

He yanked a strip of dark cloth over her eyes, blindfolding her completely. "Calm down," he ordered against her ear. "Before you change the environment again. We won’t be able to dodge your ice rain while carrying a dead weight."

He held her tightly against his chest. Amelia clung to him with everything she had, fingers locked in his shirt. All she could hear were screams, crashing impacts, and the thunder of his heartbeat beneath her cheek.

Everything felt too close, too loud, too real. She pressed her face harder against him and tried—desperately—to steady her breathing while the world fell apart around them.

Enzo moved without slowing down, body angling sharply to avoid another plummeting shard of burning rock. Reid stayed close on his right, intercepting a blade that came from the smoke.

This shouldn’t be possible.

The ceremony grounds were supposed to be sealed, layered with enough protective wards to keep out intruders. Yet enemies were already inside as if the barriers meant nothing. Someone had opened the way for them.

He couldn’t afford to think about how.

All that mattered was getting Amelia to safe ground. He adjusted his hold, drawing her even tighter against his chest. The protective instinct settled over him with unsettling ease, as if his body already knew the exact way to shield her.

A short distance away, Dean cut through the attackers. Every person still channeling energy into the sky met a snapped neck or a crushed throat. His expression was cold, but fury burned underneath.

This was supposed to have been the moment—the public claim, the chance to finally push Amelia past every limit and see what she truly was. The fact that some dark corner of his mind had started thinking of it as something more sexual only made the rage sharper.

Other alphas joined the fight, roaring challenges as they engaged the infiltrators. Chaos spread in every direction.

High above the smoke and falling debris, two figures remained perfectly still, concealed by layered illusion. A man and a woman watched the battlefield with detached interest.

The man spoke first. "How can you be certain these three are the ones our lost queen was searching for?"

The woman never took her eyes off the girl being carried through the destruction. A faint, cold smile touched her lips. "I’ve tracked the queen’s residual signatures for decades. Which has brought us to this place, because of thee unnatural shifts in weather. The only men who come close to matching the partners she once sought are the Ellington brothers."

Her gaze sharpened. "They need to be removed. Permanently."
