Last Gun Alchemist

Chapter 408: Ghost Crawler Hunt XV

Ezra moved backward through the air, creating a little distance from the Elder Ghost Crawler, but the moment his foot touched the ground, he moved again.

Another enormous leg came crashing down where he had been standing.

BOOM!

The stone floor cracked beneath the impact, sending small pieces of rock skittering across the ground.

Ezra didn’t stop.

He shifted his body to the side as another leg swept toward him, then lowered himself beneath the next one before pushing off the ground again.

Like that, Ezra began weaving through the numerous strikes of the giant Elder Ghost Crawler.

The creature wasn’t as large as a Colossal Ground Ape, but it was definitely larger than a Giant Ground Ape by more than a few measurements.

Yet despite its size, the Elder Ghost Crawler moved with unbelievable speed.

Its enormous legs struck one after another, each impact shaking the underground chamber and forcing dust loose from the ceiling.

But even with that speed, it wasn’t something Ezra couldn’t handle.

His eyes followed the movement of its legs while his body reacted almost at the same time.

A leg slammed down.

Ezra stepped away.

Another swept across the ground.

He jumped over it.

A third descended from above.

Ezra twisted his body and slipped beneath it before the limb smashed into the stone behind him.

BOOM!

The wall shook.

Ezra immediately used the opening to move underneath the Elder Ghost Crawler’s enormous body.

His eyes shifted toward its segmented abdomen.

That was where the webs were produced.

If he could reach that area, he might be able to attack the creature before it could continue using its webs against him.

Ezra accelerated.

But just as he moved beneath the Elder Ghost Crawler’s main body, the creature’s segmented abdomen suddenly shifted.

The lower part of its body turned toward him.

Several openings appeared beneath it.

Ezra’s eyes narrowed.

Spatter!

A huge mass of webs suddenly shot out from beneath the Elder Ghost Crawler.

The enormous web spread across the air as it rushed toward Ezra, looking almost like a small tidal wave made of white strands.

Ezra didn’t retreat.

He reached into his Space Bag and pulled out a dagger.

His fingers closed tightly around the handle.

Then he ran directly into the incoming web.

His feet pushed against the stone.

He jumped.

The dagger was raised in front of him.

Ezra tightened his grip and rotated his entire body.

His shoulders turned first.

Then his waist followed.

His legs twisted through the movement as he spun in a complete circular motion.

Slash!

The dagger tore through the web.

The enormous mass of strands was cut apart around him as Ezra continued spinning, the dagger moving through the web like a fan rotating at high speed.

Slash!

Another section was cut apart.

Slash!

Another.

The web separated into pieces and fell around him.

Some strands struck the stone walls and remained stuck there.

Others dropped onto the ground.

Once Ezra completed the spin, his feet touched the ground.

But the moment they did...

His body was pulled sideways.

Ezra’s eyes widened slightly.

Part of the web had wrapped itself around the dagger.

The Elder Ghost Crawler had already used the remaining strand.

Before Ezra could cut himself free, the enormous creature yanked him upward.

His body left the ground.

The force was strong enough to throw him toward the ceiling.

Ezra’s shirt fluttered violently as he was dragged through the air.

He tried to control his body, but the Elder Ghost Crawler swung him with enough force that his back slammed against the cave wall.

BAM!

Pain shot through his body.

Before Ezra could recover, the creature swung at him again.

His body was thrown toward a pointed rock protruding from the ceiling.

Ezra’s eyes immediately locked onto it.

The sharp stone was directly in his path.

He twisted his body in midair.

But the Elder Ghost Crawler’s pull came too quickly.

CRASH!

Ezra’s body slammed into the wall beside the pointed rock.

Stone cracked.

Small pieces fell around him.

The Elder Ghost Crawler immediately pulled the web downward.

Ezra’s body was dragged toward the ground.

Clang!

The dagger struck the stone floor below.

The Elder Ghost Crawler’s eight violet eyes immediately shifted toward the ceiling.

Something was wrong.

Its prey wasn’t there.

Ezra was still above it.

He had passed Cognis into the sole of his boots, gripping himself on the ceiling.

His body hung downward as he looked at the Elder Ghost Crawler.

Dust continued falling around him from the impact.

Ezra calmly took another dose of his Heat-Stimulating Pills and swallowed it.

Then he reached into his Space Bag.

His hand came back out holding one loaded M79 grenade launcher.

He raised the weapon.

The Elder Ghost Crawler looked upward.

Its eight violet eyes focused on Ezra.

Ezra aimed directly at its head.

BANG!

He fired.

The grenade traveled straight toward the Elder Ghost Crawler.

The creature didn’t move quickly enough.

BOOM!

The grenade struck its head and exploded.

Fire and smoke burst across the creature’s face.

"KRRRRAAAAAA!!!"

The Elder Ghost Crawler screamed.

Its enormous body shook from the impact.

For a moment, Ezra watched the smoke spread around its head.

WOOOOOM... KRRSHHH...

The enormous body of the Elder Ghost Crawler disappeared.

Ezra’s eyes narrowed.

An illusion.

The realization came immediately.

Instead of feeling surprised, Ezra’s eyes moved across the cave.

He tried to sense where the real Elder Ghost Crawler was.

But his senses couldn’t catch it.

An Arcanist-level illusion was beyond what his current sensory ability could properly identify.

Ezra immediately turned his entire body.

He removed his boot from the ceiling.

His body began falling.

The Elder Ghost Crawler’s enormous fang-filled mouth suddenly appeared from the side.

It was now on the ceiling.

Its jaws snapped toward him.

Ezra’s eyes shifted.

At the same time, the creature spat another mass of venomous saliva.

The thick liquid rushed toward him.

But Ezra was already moving.

He reached into his Space Bag and pulled out his Harpoon Gun along with three Black Steel nuggets.

Cognis flowed into the hand holding the nuggets.

The Gun Alchemy Circle sparked to life.

White Cognis traced across the circle as the Black Steel materials began changing.

The metal melted and reshaped itself.

A harpoon formed.

Ezra immediately loaded it into the Harpoon Gun.

The venomous saliva was already closing in.

Bang!

Ezra fired.

The harpoon shot through the air and slammed into the far wall directly in front of him.

The thin steel rope attached to the harpoon stretched out behind it.

The venomous saliva was almost touching Ezra’s body.

At that exact moment, the steel rope went taut.

Ezra pulled.

The force of the rope dragged his body sideways.

His body moved from the air as he was pulled away from the venom.

The poisonous liquid passed only inches from his boot.

BOOM!

It struck the ground behind him as he was still moving airborne towards the wall in front of him.

The stone ground began to melt immediately.

Ezra landed against the wall.

Crack!

The impact created small cracks in the stone, and several pieces of rock broke loose and fell toward the ground.

Ezra didn’t remain there.

He immediately pushed himself away from the wall.

Two Young Ghost Crawlers suddenly appeared on both sides of him.

Their jaws opened.

They tried to snap their fangs into him.

Ezra dropped to the ground.

The two creatures’ jaws closed on empty air.

He passed between them and landed softly on the ground.

For a brief moment, the cave became strangely quiet.

Then Ezra heard it.

"T̷K̷K̷K̷K̷... T̷K̷K̷K̷K̷..."

Another clicking sound answered from somewhere in front of him.

"T̷K̷K̷K̷K̷... T̷K̷K̷K̷K̷..."

Then another.

"T̷K̷K̷K̷K̷... T̷K̷K̷K̷K̷..."

The sound echoed throughout the cave.

Ezra’s expression became serious.

He knew exactly what it meant.

The Young Ghost Crawlers had just been watching their mother fight Ezra.

Now they were joining the battle.

He looked upward.

Movement appeared along the ceiling.

Then he looked toward the walls.

More creatures were crawling out from the cracks and tunnels.

He looked down.

Even the ground around him was beginning to fill with them.

The entire place was becoming covered in Young Ghost Crawlers.

All of them were moving toward one person.

Ezra.

The Elder Ghost Crawler was done playing around.

It was no longer relying on a few attacks.

Now it was time to end everything through overwhelming numbers.

Ezra’s eyes moved across the growing swarm.

Then he heard a familiar voice coming from one of the tunnels.

"First... let’s light this whole place up."

Ezra’s sharp hearing immediately caught Agnes’s voice.

His eyes shifted toward the tunnel.

Instantly, a set of wooden sticks flew out from inside it.

They struck the stone floor hard and remained standing.

Clap!

The sound of hands coming together echoed through the cave.

Scarlet Cognis flowed outward.

The wooden sticks suddenly ignited.

Oil had been placed near the top of each stick, allowing the flames to burn brightly.

Fire spread from one torch to another.

The cave began to brighten.

The Young Ghost Crawlers immediately turned toward the flames.

Their violet eyes reflected the firelight.

Then more Cognis fluctuations appeared from the tunnel.

Diane, Hugh, and Samuel jumped out.

Diane stretched her hand forward.

Ten ice spears shot through the air and struck ten Young Ghost Crawlers.

Pshk!

Pshk!

Pshk!

The ice spears pierced through their bodies.

All ten creatures were killed at once.

Hugh moved his spear forward.

His Wind Alchemy Circle floated in front of him.

Every thrust he performed gathered the surrounding wind pressure.

The wind was drawn into the Alchemy Circle and compressed.

The circle transformed the gathered pressure into a larger wind spear with every movement.

Hugh thrust his final thrust forward.

BOOM!

The enlarged wind spear smashed into the packed group of Young Ghost Crawlers.

The force pushed through the creatures, throwing several of them backward and breaking apart their formation.

At the same time, Samuel pressed his Cognis into his Wood Alchemy Circle.

A thick wood branch formed beneath Agnes, Jeremy, and Emily.

The branch curled around them and guided them down toward the ground.

As soon as Agnes reached the floor, she immediately performed another Flame Alchemy.

She drew small flames from the torch that now brightened the entire cave.

The flames moved toward her sword.

Agnes moved her fingers along the weapon’s body.

The fire wrapped around the blade.

The metal began glowing from the heat.

"AHH!"

Agnes swung the sword.

Slash!

A wave of flame moved forward.

It traveled across the ground and struck the Young Ghost Crawlers in its path.

The flames sliced through them and burned their bodies.

Clap!

Emily’s hands came together.

Cognis flowed into her palms as her Alchemy Circle began forming.

Navy-blue lightning spread from the circle.

It crawled across the stone floor in thin streams before becoming stronger.

Emily slammed one hand against the ground.

The surrounding wind began flowing toward her Alchemy Circle.

The navy-blue lightning increased in strength as more wind was drawn into the circle.

Then...

A storm field formed around Emily and Jeremy.

Wind began circling them while navy-blue lightning flashed within it.

The storm field protected Jeremy as he prepared the most important Illusion Alchemy they would need to face the Young Ghost Crawlers.

Agnes and Samuel immediately left their side.

They moved toward the others to help them fight.

The battle inside the Ghost Crawler’s nest had finally become a battle involving everyone.
