The monkey beasts roared in rage, fighting on all sides.
A collective of alerts boomed across the area, guiding each other.
"Hold the left flank!"
"Do not let them surround us!"
"Ensure good defense with your beasts!"
A senior disciple’s wind wolf ripped the neck from a Rank 2 macaque before leaping backward into a defensive stance. Beside it, an armored Rock Bear slammed its massive paws into the ground.
A powerful shockwave burst out, launching half a dozen leaping primates into the air. Above, a group of Falcons swirled the canopy once, descending down like spears to shatter the beasts’ chests.
The disciples had left their lingering hesitation.
"Keep advancing!" Chen Ming bellowed, his voice carrying authority.
His Wind-Falcon soared through the trees, its wings whipping a few strong gales that faltered the moment of approaching beasts backward.
Lian Nichang’s wolf took the advantage instantly. Its jaws snapped onto a beast’s shoulder, ripping the bone before hurling the corpse aside.
Another wave came in. Chi Fenglian’s Boar lowered its head and sprinted into the horde.
"Come on, you ugly bastards!" Chi Fenglian shouted, his beast throwing primates left and right.
Nearby, the veteran outer disciples moved with magnificent precision. Their cultivation stage was higher than newly admitted recruits; many had reached the Core Beast Realm Lower Stage, a few were in Mid Stage, and a handful were in Peak Stage. They are stronger than Lin Yuan.
They refused to waste beast essence on individual low-rank beasts. Instead, they leaped into wide areas through the swarm, creating room for the newer disciples to hold the rear line.
The shattered corpses of Rank 1, 2, and 3 beasts piled up across the blood-soaked grass.
But there are still thousands of beasts. They didn’t have any trace of fear. Lin Yuan stood near the vanguard, his dark eyes observing the area where a core strike unit had assembled.
Among them stood Bai Ning. The girl fought beside her Frost Fox, its white fur smeared with dirt and dark beast blood. Her eyes repeatedly drifted toward Lin Yuan.
’Core Beast Realm Lower Stage... At fifteen years old,’ Bai Ning muttered, always feeling envious of Lin Yuan.
She had believed her Spirit Beast Realm Peak cultivation was the pinnacle among this year’s intake. Then Lin Yuan had appeared with Core Beast Realm and was also a holder of two legendary white tigers.
’How could anyone cultivate that rapidly?’ Bai Ning clicked her tongue inwardly.
She clenched her fists tightly, but forced the thought down immediately. This was no place for petty rivalries. She knows she is on the battlefield now.
ROOOOOOOAAAR!
Suddenly, a loud roar shook the valley. The low rank monkeys scattered in sheer panic, parting sideways slowly. A wide, narrow path opened toward the center of the horde.
"They’re moving," Lin Yuan muttered, instantly understanding the situation.
A few senior disciples gathered. "Don’t let them breach the defense!"
Bai Ning nodded, her Frost Fox sprinting slowly behind them as the group pushed toward the front. With every step forward, the spiritual pressure grew heavier than before. The lower-tier beasts moved away.
Something far more scary had stepped onto the ground. At the front stood Sect Master Xue Hongzhao, his crimson robes whipping in the gale, flanked by five senior elders. There are tall Rank 4 commanders opposite to the elders and sect master.
Their bodies were large and muscular; some possessed long, strong arms with black fur; others had mangled joints and heavy muscles. They have the resemblance of baboons, mandrills, and silverback apes, but their eyes shimmered with red light. Their aura was different.
Xue Hongzhao stared back at the arriving disciples, his face serious. "Listen well, brats!"
Everyone stood still, looking into the sect master’s eyes.
"These creatures look like Rank 4 beasts..." Xue Hongzhao grunted, clicking his tongue and taking a pause. "...yet the strength of their spiritual pressure rivals a Rank 5 beast."
The disciples’ hands trembled slightly.
"Rank 5?"
"That defies natural cultivation..."
Xue Hongzhao raised his black bow, his Phoenix flaring behind him in a flash of crimson-gold light.
"Do not fight them with tactics," Xue Hongzhao commanded. "They are mutated by some demonic methods. Something made them like this to attack the villages and sects."
Lin Yuan stared at the towering beasts.
’Mutated beasts?’ Lin Yuan thought, calling out his turtle. ’Do you know about them?’
Inside his sea of consciousness, the turtle beast’s voice quivered slightly: "That unnatural stench... they have been altered by an outside force... I guess it was some demonic force."
"Then let’s see how much strength they have." Lin Yuan’s face remained calm.
"You truly are an arrogant brat!" Xue Hongzhao looked sideways at the boy, a faint smirk appearing on his lips.
"Elders, disciples!! Slaughter them!" Xue Hongzhao commanded, raising his bow.
They rushed forward immediately, then the five tall, mutated apes lunged forward at the same time, the ground cracking under their heavy weight.
The strike squads scattered to the flank.
"Trap the one on the left!"
"Shatter the balance of the beast!"
Bai Ning stepped forward, her beast essence flaring as her fox exhaled a freezing tempest. A wave of thick frost lingered across the ground, locking the large ape’s legs in ice.
Before the frost could shatter, the mutated beast roared, flexing its muscles and shattering the ice to shards with a devastating stomp.
"Its strength is absurd!" Bai Ning snickered, her face turned pale.
Lin Yuan was already moving. The Male White Tiger burst out from his back in a flash of white light. The suppression slammed down on the area, causing the mutated ape to feel fear for a second.
Lin Yuan can only use white tiger a few times as it consumes a large quantity of beast essence. And he can’t command two beasts at a time. So he needs to attack meticulously.
Lin Yuan’s eyes glinted with lethality. "Strike now!"
The white tiger obscured, its massive paw slammed with the ape’s arm, the strong impact echoing like thunder across the ridge.
The mutated beast was knocked off balance, stumbling back three paces.
The senior disciples closed the distance instantly, a serpent swirled around its legs, a dire wolf dug fangs into its exposed knees, and an armored bear slammed its shoulder into the beast’s ribs vehemently
"Crush it!"
The disciples brutally crushed the beast from every possible side.
Meanwhile, Xue Hongzhao stood alone against the largest beast - a gorilla-like muscular body standing nearly twenty feet tall, its muscles bulging under its fur.
The beast smashed its fists together, letting out a sonic boom that blasted across the surrounding bushes vehemently.
"The biggest bastard is angry now," Xue Hongzhao said with a mere smile. His phoenix flapped its wings, sending a storm of divine fire swirling around the Sect Master’s body. "Let us see if your flesh can withstand true flame."
The sonic boom and fire collided rapidly. The large beast was blasted back, breaking the trees, smoke wavering from its scorched fur. But, ignoring the small burns, the beast threw its head back and lunged straight through the flames.
Xue Hongzhao drew his bowstring back to his ear, three black-shafted arrows appearing in a second.
The three silver streaks pierced into the beast’s shoulders and knee, pinning it to the ground.
The beast roared in agony, but Xue Hongzhao was already moved forward.
He reappeared before the beast, punching hard with an essence-clad fist into the beast’s chest.
The shockwave rushed through the creature’s back, cracking its ribcage and blasting its massive body a bit deep into the cracked ground.
To the right, three sect elders killed another mutated commander, brutally smashing its bones and the blood splashing on all of them. A serpent strangled its legs, a wolf slashed through its throat, and a strong hand of a bear crushed its skull to pulp.
The second Rank 4 collapsed dead into the ground. Xue Hongzhao rushed toward a third commander, his phoenix descending in a fire vortex.
The divine flames engulfed the beast, reducing its flesh and mutated bone to small pieces of burnt remnants within moments.
The three commanders are dead now, and more than twenty mutated horrors remain on the ground.
Lin Yuan’s squad continued their attack, the White Tiger tearing a bloody scar through another ape’s chest.
Suddenly, something moved through Lin Yuan’s blind spot.
A devastating fist caught Lin Yuan in the ribs. The sheer force evaded his guard, lifting him off his feet and blasting him twenty meters across the area.
Lin Yuan smashed into the rocky cliff, the stone cracking behind his spine before he collapsed into the ground.
"Lin Yuan!" Bai Ning screamed, her face turning pale.
Chen Ming turned around in pure panic. "LIN YUAN!"
Lin Yuan’s vision is filled with darkness. He tried to take breath, but his lungs groaned in agony. A mouthful of dark blood splattered across the stone under his face.
He pushed his trembling palms into the ground, slowly forcing his body up. There was a large, four-armed mutated ape before him, its crimson eyes filled with hunger. Its knuckles were dripping with fresh blood.
Lin Yuan smeared the blood from his chin with the back of his hand. His dark eyes locked onto the beast. The mutated beast raised both fists into the air, muscles twisting to crush him to paste. And brought them crashing down.
BOOOOOOM!
