Two chambers farther down, something with silver skin folded against its restraints while its panel changed from dormant to unstable.
The black-gold blood did not behave like normal injury. It crawled toward active claim lines before gravity pulled it down. Seraphina noticed first. Jace noticed that she stepped between the blood and everyone else before asking what it meant.
It was evidence, and Jace had learned to respect evidence that scared him.

"The vault does not become less dangerous because you defeated me."
"Disappointing design."
Theodore looked toward the seven chambers. "Their preservation routes were tied to Caleb's stabilization field. When he died, the vault attempted to reroute through me. Your reversal damaged the shared network before it completed."
"So we broke them."
"We broke the thing keeping their cages functional."
Noah looked back. "That is a distinction they may not survive."

"My recovery core is still trying to finish the protocol," he said. "Use it."
Elijah tightened his hold. "That will drain what remains."
"Yes."
"How much remains?"
Theodore did not answer.
