Chapter 141: This Is the Twist I’ve Been Seeking

Chapter 141: Chapter 141: This Is the Twist I’ve Been Seeking

Realizing he was being ambushed from behind, the Advisor understood in an instant. The Chief Judge hadn’t been using[Wisdom]to hide the thief at all—he’d been hiding the man now behind him.

’How despicable...’ he couldn’t help but curse inwardly.

But the Heavy Sword came too fast and too hard, leaving the Advisor no time to muster his power to defend.

Yet the blade seemed to be deflected by some unknown force. It veered off course, striking only the Advisor’s right shoulder. It sliced through his trench coat without resistance, cleaving smoothly downward.

A severed sleeve fell to the ground.

Only the sleeve...

The Advisor’s entire right arm, along with the right side of his torso, had vanished long ago. Only a waxy, melted scar remained.

What had appeared to be his right arm was merely a clever illusion.

"Huh?"

Having missed his mark, the attacker didn’t press his advantage. Instead, he performed several agile backflips, putting distance between himself and the Advisor.

Just as he moved, several small spikes erupted from the patch of earth where he’d been standing, piercing nothing but air.

Each spike was a dangerous[Curse], far more malicious than the ones the Chief Judge had been fending off. If the attacker hadn’t retreated instantly, he would have been struck.

"Heh... So you dogs of so-called justice and Order are quite skilled at treachery and deceit yourselves."

The Advisor sneered, his gaze fixed on the attacker.

The man was tall and powerfully built, clad in a suit of silver plate mail that covered his entire body. It was engraved with all sorts of fine, exquisite patterns, giving it a classical charm. The armor emanated a faint but unique Spiritual Energy.

It might have once been an expensive and powerful suit of armor, but in this day and age, it was somewhat obsolete.

The owner seemed aware of this, as the armor was not occupied. It was completely empty.

The Advisor seemed to know who this classical Armored Knight was, and his voice dripped with mockery.

"It’s Demani, isn’t it? In your current state, do you really dare to make a move?"

"You talk too much... *cough, cough*..."

The Armored Knight’s voice was muffled, weak, and distant, as if it were drifting in from far away.

As he spoke, he slowly ran a hand over his Heavy Sword. The entire blade lit up with a faint glow, radiating the aura of[Veto].

He then swung the Heavy Sword in a spinning motion, severing the[Curses]that flew at him one by one.

This was a fundamental, yet advanced, application of a[Veto]-type power.

The Chief Judge, who had been struggling so pitifully just moments before, suddenly dropped his act. With a casual wave of his hand, he[Vetoed]all the[Curses]that had been hounding him. He then landed beside the Armored Knight and spoke in a low voice.

"Your Excellency, the Grand Judge."

"*Cough, cough*... Tirtus, our plan failed. Do we have no choice but to fight him head-on now? *Cough, cough*..."

"I’m afraid so."

"Sigh... What a hassle. *Cough, cough.* I really should have passed my title on to you sooner."

While coughing incessantly like an invalid, the Armored Knight, now addressed as the Grand Judge, raised his Heavy Sword high and said in a jesting tone:

"Make me look dashing. And glamorous."

"Yes."

In the Advisor’s eyes, the Armored Knight was instantly bathed in a shimmering golden light, becoming like a sun that could scatter the darkness and illuminate the night sky.

A dashing red cape materialized behind him, fluttering in the wind and adding to his heroic appearance.

Ornate and complex decorations appeared all over his body—spikes, horns, and filigree patterns—transforming the once-plain armor into a magnificent work of art. Every step he took was accompanied by a ceaseless CLINK-CLANK.

Although these changes were visible only to the Advisor and seemed meaningless—mere visual embellishments—the Advisor still frowned.

The fact that he could see these changes meant the Chief Judge’s interference was still active. His vision and inspiration could be disrupted again at any moment.

’The[Wisdom]system... truly a disgusting maggot gnawing at my bones...’

The Advisor cursed inwardly. Left with no other choice, he poured more of his own consciousness and power into the host body, bringing it closer to his true form.

Under this influence, the black tattoos on the body seemed to come alive and began to flow. The blood vessels beneath the skin started to stir, writhing like worms.

The Advisor looked at his two enemies again, and in an instant, his eyes became as black as empty voids.

He unleashed an incredibly dangerous and fatal Curse:[Gaze from a Great Existence].

This was an ability one could only master after advancing[Curse]to the Eighth Tier. Once it took effect, the very concept of ’Rationality’ would cease to exist in a vast area around him.

Everything within that area—every blade of grass, every tree, every stone—would be plunged into an Abyss of madness. Until the effect faded, it would become an absolute Restricted Area, devoid of all life.

Fortunately, a major drawback of the[Curse]system is its slow activation speed. There was still a chance to interrupt it by force.

"*Cough, cough*... You lunatic! Dammit! In the name of Veto!"

The Armored Knight cursed as his figure blurred and flickered, vanishing from sight.

He reappeared instantly in front of the Advisor.

He had actually[Vetoed]the distance between himself and the Advisor.

But this seemed to be just what the Advisor had anticipated. Just as the Armored Knight raised his Heavy Sword to strike, he suddenly felt the ground beneath his feet give way.

The solid ground had ’unexpectedly’ split open, and his legs sank right into the fissure, trapping him.

Immediately after, a few rivets ’unexpectedly’ popped loose from his supposedly indestructible armor. In an instant, his entire arm lost its support and fell limp.

The Advisor seized the opportunity, reaching for the Knight’s helmet with his one remaining left hand.

’Applying a Curse through physical contact is more direct and faster than using my gaze.’

But the Armored Knight switched the Heavy Sword to his other hand, blocking the attack just in time.

The moment the faintly glowing blade made contact with the Advisor’s palm, puffs of yellow smoke erupted, signaling a direct clash of their powers.

Meanwhile, the Chief Judge had silently moved to the Advisor’s other side. He pointed at the Advisor, his fingers splayed.

"In the name of Veto!"

In the next second, the Advisor felt his power falter. His vision blurred.

The Armored Knight shrewdly seized this fleeting opening. With a powerful shove, his Heavy Sword carved a gleaming arc, severing the Advisor’s left arm before continuing its path toward his chest.

But at that critical moment, his blade bizarrely shifted by an inch. It only grazed the Advisor’s chest, missing the perfect opportunity to strike a fatal blow.

In that instant, several tentacle-like growths burst from the skin on the Advisor’s face. His power surged, and an invisible force of[Curse]enveloped him like a barrier, stopping the Heavy Sword.

The gleaming Heavy Sword and armor began to corrode and weather at a visible rate. The unstoppable[Curse]instantly spread over the Armored Knight’s entire body.

If a living person had been inside the armor, they would have been instantly warped beyond recognition.

But thankfully, it was empty, so he could continue to cough.

"*Cough, cough*... What twisted my power and threw it off course?"

"This is the Twist I have been searching for!"

The Advisor let out a hysterical roar. He gathered all the power around him, forming it into an invisible blade that he thrust toward the Armored Knight’s helmet.

Simultaneously, a bolt of lightning ’unexpectedly’ struck down from the sky, hitting the Chief Judge and engulfing him completely in electricity.

Meanwhile, the terrifying Curse the Advisor had been brewing hadn’t dissipated; it was now on the verge of being unleashed.

’Once that Curse is successfully unleashed, tonight’s farce will be over.’

At the same time, the[Calamity]he had long been preparing would also trigger. The Curse’s effects wouldn’t be confined to these deserted outskirts but would transform into a terrifying disaster, spreading outward from this epicenter.

The result would inevitably be utter devastation, a thousand miles of scorched earth...

"It’s over... You should know, I don’t actually enjoy killing. You forced my hand."

The Advisor said coldly, preparing to trigger the final Curse.

But just then, he heard a voice from behind him:

"In the name of Veto!"

The Advisor froze, then violently spewed a mouthful of black blood.

"How... is that possible..."

He slowly turned his head to see the thief who had stolen the *Book of Truth*. He had no idea when the man had gotten behind him.

’And I didn’t notice him at all?’

He was still using this host body, but with the continuous infusion of his consciousness and power, he was now infinitesimally close to his true self.

His inspiration, his Spiritual Power, and his mastery over his abilities were all at their peak.

In this state,[Wisdom]should no longer be able to interfere with his senses.[Veto]should no longer be able to comprehend his existence. And within the range of his inspiration, it should be impossible for anyone to escape his notice.

And yet, the thief had suddenly appeared and launched a treacherous sneak attack.

The Advisor’s thoughts descended into chaos. ’How could this person attack right under my nose? How could someone with the paltry power of a Tier Two injure me with a sneak attack when I’m at my absolute strongest?’

And an exceptionally fatal one at that...

The Spiritual Power throughout his body began to rage out of control. His thoughts and his Rationality started to slip away.

He was even seeing... kittens in little skirts, wiggling their butts and dancing for him?

The[Gaze from a Great Existence]was instantly deflected. Its charge was forcibly interrupted, and the terrifying power it contained surged back into his own body.

SPLAT!

The Advisor’s body exploded like a crushed tomato, splattering across the ground.
