After receiving news she did not win but placed 775, Taylor was happy. Sophie already threw Tyler over her shoulder and the girls were b-lining to the medical wing.

Mana exhaustion was never good and Tyler found out the hard way. He was unconscious, completely pale but breathing peacefully. Thankfully the girls were quick and Nurse Becky was immediately available.

"Slow down ladies. So he exhausted himself by healing his opponent?" She asked calmly.

"Yes and he has four familiars. He needs mana badly." Sophie said frantically.

It was the first time Kass ever saw Sophie paranoid and not the cool, calm and collected young woman she normally was. Amanda seemed fine, which was even more confusing for Kass.

’It’s like the swapped roles. Weird. I just hope he’s ok. Typical Tyler. Puts himself last.’

Sophie placed Tyler in the bed and the three girls waited in the lobby while Becky hooked up three ivs into Tyler’s arm. Fluids, electrolytes and mana all helped him stabilize. He was sleeping peacefully.

His familiars were wide awake and talking about the match.

"We need to teach this kid not to do everything by himself. That’s why there is a referee!" Shadow exclaimed.

"Agreed but I did hit her really hard. I didn’t realize his mana doesn’t impact me like it did with tamers. This is a weird world we live in."

"Don’t beat yourself up Ash. You did as he asked and he should have let someone else heal her. She has strong charming magic. She’s gonna hate Tyler," Vivian laughed.

"Maybe that’s a good thing? He could use a rival or something. He’d smoke Adam now and I doubt he’d want to fight Sophie. Even I can sense that," Ritsu said calmly.

"Yeah... she’s going to hate me, sorry about that, everyone." Tyler said as he woke up, keeping his eyes closed so he could talk to his family, which he started to call them.

"No need to apologize, that was a really great strategy and an even better win! Sophie lost her mind. Amanda and Kass were calm but she completely freaked out about you being exhausted from mana. She literally threw you over her shoulder and sprinted here." Vivian said cheerfully.

"You’ve definitely made a positive impact on these young women’s lives."

"She really freaked out? Damnit now I feel even worse. Is Taylor ok?"

"Good as new. Seraphim and Ritsu both have excellent healing abilities that should aid your magic. Next time let the referee or someone handle it. You won and weren’t penalized. You are lucky it was Master Sanju officiating the match. Some of the others might have been more strict and said you took it too far," Vivian said sternly.

"He’s right Tyler. Don’t do everything yourself. There were plenty of people capable of healing her." Ash reinforced the serious tone Vivian used.

"Ok, ok. I just felt bad she was burned pretty badly and I never meant to hurt her like that." Tyler said empathetically.

"I think we need a girls night," Sophie sighed while resting her head on Kass’ shoulder.

"Yes!" Amanda said cheerfully. "We used to do it every Thursday until the Tyler thing happened. It was nice getting to know your friends!"

"I’m in. It’d be good to have a night to ourselves. Let’s have it at your place Sophie?" Kass asked excitedly.

"Let me text Katy. She can go stay with Zain if she doesn’t want to be there. What about CeCe?"

"Yes I think that’d be good. What about Taylor? Weren’t you two close before you and your boyfriend started dating?"

"We were but I’m not asking her to come. I just want it to be us and a few of our closest friends, nothing big." Sophie smiled calmly while texting Katy then CeCe.

"They’re both in. Cecelia was thankful for the invite. She asked if she could bring her best friend Brooke."

"Sure. She should at least have someone she knows well." Amanda shrugged.

The girls talked for a bit before Becky finally came out with good news.

"He’s awake and stable but has to stay overnight. You can go say hi if you’d like!"

The girls walked in and were relieved to see Tyler sitting upright. They all gave him a kiss and gave him a hard time for not letting Master Sanju or one of them heal Taylor. They also informed him he was 4-0 and Taylor placed rank 775 so if he won his last match he’d likely be in the top 500.

Tyler was in good spirits and mindblown that there was a chance he could place within the top 500 of over 4000 total students. Granted, not all of them dueled but after talking with Sophie before, he knew being in the top 300 meant you were included in the tournament and he really wanted to participate.

He was worried about Adam’s rank and confused how he placed so low.

"Can you ask CeCe what happened with Adam’s placements? Why is he ranked so low?" Tyler frowned.

"Sure, but he isn’t that low. Anything in the top 2000 is decent for a first year. The top 50 is where the real competition is. There is a big drop off from them to the next group. You have to understand that it’s the entire school, not just us," Sophie smiled while she texted Adam’s new girlfriend.

"She said he got unlucky with placements and put too much pressure on himself. He was sloppy and rushed his attacks rather than trying to trap his opponent." Sophie read CeCe’s quick response.

"Damn. Well sorry I can’t spend tonight with you ladies but I hope you have a good night."

"We’re having a girls night! It should be fun," Amanda giggled.

"Yup we decided on that before we knew you had to stay overnight." Kass said while holding his hand.

"Oh, that’s awesome! Let loose and have fun. You don’t have to spend the night every night but I won’t complain if you do. Anyway, I’ll probably sleep so don’t feel obligated to text me or anything."

"Alright good lookin’ we’ll see you soon." Kass said with a kiss. Amanda and Sophie followed, then they walked out as the nurse walked in.

"Your vitals look good but it’s going to take some rest for you to get back to 100%. I’d recommend keeping your familiars with you and I’ll order you dinner. I’ve also brought some food capsules to help you."

"Speaking of capsules, would you be able to get me a prescription for birth control?" Tyler asked nervously. His face was beat red.

"Sure, let me run some tests and make sure you don’t have any diseases. If you do then there’s always medications and condoms."

’So they do exist here. Amanda must trust me a lot.’

"I’ve taken the blue capsule before. How do they work exactly?"

The nurse smiled. She connected the dots with who just left and who she recently gave birth control to. She explained that the male one sterilizes the semen and the female one sterilizes the egg so even if the semen attached to an egg, no baby would be formed and it would leave the female body naturally.

She ran some tests and came back quickly with a bag of condoms and two bottles. This bag of condoms caused Tyler to panic.

"Oh, sorry for startling you. I brought both just in case. Not every woman only uses just the pill. You are clean, nothing to worry about."

Tyler smiled and thanked her and his dinner arrived so he ate and swallowed the food capsules. He and his familiars felt so much better and they all fell asleep.

The girls were having a good time at Sophie and Katy’s place. It was nice to catch up on all the latest school gossip. There was a new number one student on the dueling boards. She was known as the "Crimson Valkyrie."

Brooke and Cecelia were having a good time. Everyone was interested in what was going on with Katy and Zain as well as Adam and CeCe. Katy and Zain were taking things slow and Adam was taking CeCe out on another date.

It was getting late so everyone said their goodbyes aside from Kass and Amanda, who asked Sophie if she was sleeping at home or at Tyler’s. She was going to stay at her place so the three decided to take a cute picture of themselves in pajamas and send it to Tyler.

"Goodnight we love you!" Amanda sent to their group chat with the three of them with their arms around each other.

The text woke him up but caused him to smile.

’Aw, they’re sweet.’ He thought before texting them back.

"Gorgeous. Love you too goodnight!"

Kass and Amanda snuck over to Tyler’s and entered the combination to get in. The two cuddled, falling fast asleep in his comfortable king size bed.
