Tyler woke up in the middle of the night, astonished his body was fully recovered, or at least he felt like it was. He noticed weird orb-like objects floating around his body. They looked like AI cameras from Earth, but more complex and they were consistently monitoring him in a weird, structured pattern he couldn’t explain. He glanced to the left and noticed all his vitals looked good, but when he tried to stand, his arms were immediately strapped into the chair.
’What the hell?’
"Don’t bother," another student next to him said hoarsely.
"If you try to get out, they just strap you in, so don’t fight it, relax, enjoy the down time and get some sleep." She added, although he could tell she was struggling to speak.
Tyler noticed how beautiful the girl lying in the hospital bed next to him was. She had cute pointy ears, so he figured she was elven. He reminded himself that he needed to make friends and now seemed like a perfect opportunity. She likely noticed him beaten up when he was admitted, so he felt slightly nervous and embarrassed.
"Thanks, I’m Tyler, what’s your name?"
"Amanda, it’s nice to meet you."
"It’s nice to meet you too. The nurse put a mask on me and I don’t remember anything else."
She laughed and coughed.
"Woah, don’t strain yourself. Are you ok Amanda? You sound really sick!" Tyler said empathetically.
"You’re sweet. Yes, I’ve been fighting off this really strange illness since I arrived on campus and the nurse can’t figure out what it is. I’ve never felt so awful in my life."
"Yo Ash, do you think you could help her?"
"Tell your system-a-ma-gig to use my white flame."
Tyler grinned, ’System, use Ash’s white flame.’
[White flame cast.]
A small, white orb floated from Tyler’s hand over to Amanda and landed in the center of her stomach.
"That’s where her infection is. I think even as a baby I can take care of this one. Nice quick thinking buddy!"
"Thanks Ash, I’m just borrowing your power and the system’s doing the work."
"But you’re the one who thought to make it happen. Trust me, I’ve dealt with enough idiots. That was very kind of you."
"Thanks Ash, I appreciate you dude."
"I appreciate you too, now let me go back to bed!" He laughed.
Amanda coughed a few times before she smiled. "Oh my gosh thank you so much! I feel so much better, what magic was that?"
"I have a phoenix as a familiar, I used one of his abilities. He said you had a nasty infection in your stomach but he could take care of it.

"Sweet! That’s so awesome, thanks again Ash!"
"You’re welcome bud, get some sleep after you talk to the pretty lady!"
"Woah, so are you a beast tamer then?"
"I’m actually a summoner... I was home schooled so I’m still trying to get the hang of things. I’m just a D rank. What about you?"
She answered, nervously. "I’m just a D rank healer... I’m not very useful, I can’t even heal myself and I’m an elf."
"Hey, don’t say that! You can’t help that you got sick with something your body didn’t know how to fight off. I think being an elven healer is pretty cool, you get to help out all your friends and stuff don’t you?" Tyler said compassionately. "You also have beautiful blue eyes, flawless blonde hair and are very pretty."
’No one has ever told me I’m pretty before...’ She thought with a small smile.
"I never really thought about it that way, I guess. You’re a really nice guy and you’re quite handsome yourself," She blushed.
"Thanks! I’m really tired though." Tyler admitted.
"Maybe we can talk tomorrow?" She asked nervously."
"I would like that. Get some rest, I’m glad you feel better!" Tyler said kindly.
"Me too... thank you so much, seriously I was miserable."

Tyler woke up the next morning and frowned at the empty bed next to him.
"Good morning Mr. Rask!" the nurse said, way too loudly and overly friendly.
"Morning. So, am I free to go now or?"
"Well, first I have to give you a thorough report of your injuries. You had several broken bones, including ribs and jaw. Please try to avoid the third years that bully the younger students as best you can! I know it’s hard, but you’ll just end up back here." She said in the same peppy tone.
"Not that I mind treating you of course, but I think you’d rather spend your Saturday nights having fun with your new school mates than staying in the infirmary! I’m the head nurse, Becky."
"It’s nice to meet you Becky... Hey, that girl that was sick, did she get discharged or something?"
"Oh! Yes, she left this note for you as well. She was very thankful. You’re a summoner, that’s amazing!" Becky smiled.
"I didn’t do much, my phoenix knew how to fight the infection, he’s the one that deserves the credit."
"So kind and modest too. Well, anyway, you are free to go. Remember you start classes tomorrow so make sure you get a good night’s sleep tonight! Classes start at 07:00."
"Thanks! I appreciate the treatment, do I owe you any credits or anything?"
"Of course not! We would never make our students pay for injuries. That includes during dueling, in battle, if an accident happens... But anyway, have a great day!"
"Thanks Nurse Becky! Hopefully I don’t see you anytime soon, no offense!"
"None taken, be well."
Tyler quickly rushed back to his apartment and opened the note from Amanda.
"Dear Tyler,
I just wanted to say thank you for healing my stomach infection. You have a great beast familiar and I’d like to return the favor somehow. If you’d like, we could get together in the lounge or something and hang out? My number is 262525. Text me!"
Tyler tapped his phone to his head a few times, weighing his options. He already made a few close friends, and she was so kind to him.
’I feel bad she thinks she’s some weak useless D rank healer. I don’t want her to get bullied like I did. Maybe my friends will help and stand up for her too?’
He grabbed his phone, "Hey Amanda! It’s Tyler, yeah that sounds great! By the way, what does your schedule look like? Do we have any of the same classes?!" He texted with a copy of his schedule.
She quickly replied, "Periods 1 and 3 and we have the same homeroom! What are the odds? I’ll see you tomorrow morning!"
’Yeah, no kidding... What are the odds? Two gorgeous women, both in my homeroom!’ He thought with a pursed smile.
"Sounds good. Looking forward to it!" He texted back before taking a shower and laying down.
"I’ll never speak poorly about the gods again unless you screw this up! Be kind to both of them Tyler."
"Of course, I’ve been here for two days. I’m in no rush to start dating someone."
"Good because we have lots of work to do!"
"Goodnight buddy, would you rather sleep inside of my body or on a perch?"
"Inside you honestly. Thank you for allowing me to leave freely. We can’t leave unless our host allows us to so I know I joke around a lot, but I’m glad I got you for a host. You know no one else here has a system right?"
"Wait, really?! So never mention it then?"
"Under no circumstance. Unless it’s to the King and Queen of the Eidolons, but that’s a long way from now. Rest up kid, tomorrow you should introduce Sophie and Amanda and see if they become friends."
"Ya... that’s a good idea."
