Limitless Summoner System

Chapter 6: First Day Jitters

Tyler woke up early and went for a jog after letting Ash out. He showered and got dressed in the school uniforms, which he found a bit strange. They were black dress slacks or black dress shorts with black, white or red polos, or the same colored dress shirts. Students could also wear blazers, cardigans, etc. He didn’t understand why they’d be wearing a uniform if they had a dueling class, but he figured he’d find out soon enough.

His first class didn’t live up to his expectation. The Professor just went over the course syllabus with the students. He said Hi to Sophie, but she just returned the hi and they didn’t really talk more than that. He was excited to see Adam in his second period.

"Yo bro, come sit back here," Adam yelled with a friendly wave.

"Hey Sophie, you want to sit back here with us?" Tyler asked kindly.

"Yeah, sure, why not. He looks nice enough and that snake is pretty cool." She shrugged.

"Woah, whose the hottie," Adam whispered.

"The girl I ran into I told you about, she’s the b ranked badass." He said quietly back.

The class fell silent and no one had their phones out. Everyone sat as the teacher entered the room and handed out a stack of syllabi to a bigger student in the front row. He took one and students passed them to each other.

"I am Professor Atwood, of the royal vampiric family. Now, you, dark haired student in the back row middle seat, what is the second strongest class of beast and what characteristic do they lack that keeps them from becoming mythical?"

Tyler was oblivious that the professor was talking to him. He still wasn’t used to having dark hair and green eyes, he was blonde on Earth.

"That’s you Tyler!" Sophie muttered.

"Yo Ash, little help bud?"

"Legendary is the answer. Mythological, Legendary, Guardian, Punisher, Master, Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze."

Thanks, I owe you one."

"Oh, sorry sir. Legendary is the second rank beast. As for what characteristics they lack, I honestly don’t know, but my guess would be that mythological creatures are very rare, special and that they have extraordinary powers unmatched in this world?" Tyler answered slightly confident, wanting to make a good first impression.

"Close, not bad. Name, class and rank please?"

"Tyler Rask, D-Ranked Summoner."

As soon as the class started buzzing about a summoner, the Professor yelled, "SILENCE."

"As a summoner, how many beasts have you contracted?" He continued.

"Ash, help me out here please."

"Sure bud. Just tell him one and let me out, I’ll look good for the room."

"I thought I was the beauty and you were the brains?"

"I like you Tyler, you’re funny. You said you were good with me being both so there ya go!"

"Just one sir, but he’s very precious to me and he was recently reborn," Tyler said as Ash appeared from the white glow on his chest, gently sitting on his shoulder.

"Caw!" He chirped, which sounded more like a roar.

"Impressive Phoenix you have there. The characteristic Legendary’s lack that Mythological beasts have is permanence. If they die, they are reborn: in your case, in the real world, others would require to be reborn in the realm of Summoned Monsters. Your answer wasn’t incorrect, though. They are very special creatures that should be treated with the utmost respect," Professor Atwood said with a kind bow.

The class turned and bowed to the phoenix, aside from one student, who yelled, "You’re just a chubby little fucking baby, useless."

A pea size ball of fire shot from Ash’s mouth, landing in the kid’s blonde hair. A small flame burned from the top of his head as he quickly grabbed a notebook, slamming it over his head until the flame was put out.

The classroom erupted in laughter until the professor yelled, "SILENCE," again.

"This is what happens when you disrespect a mythological creature. You’re lucky he was a baby, or you might not have a head right now." The professor said with a smirk.

"Nice one Ash! You’re a total badass dude! Even as a baby you’re that powerful? I’ve got so much work to do!"

"Ha, thanks buddy. You can’t let people disrespect you either. Even if you get your ass kicked, stand your ground, put up a fight. Never give in to weakness."

Tyler walked into their homeroom with Sophie and Adam smiling, laughing and joking about how funny their second class was. Tyler noticed Amanda sitting in the back, alone, looking out the window with a sad expression.

"Amanda! What’s up! These are my friends Sophie and Adam, do you mind if we sit with you?"

"Hi Tyler! Um, if they’re ok with it, yeah..."

"Why’s she so nervous bro? She’s beautiful," Adam said quietly.

"She certainly lacks self confidence," Sophie muttered.

"Hey, go easy on her. She just got out of the hospital wing with a nasty infection that only Ash could heal. She’s probably not feeling well."

"Shouldn’t an elf be able to handle that?" Sophie said while rolling her eyes.

"Sophie, chill." Adam said politely. "Not everyone is B ranked like you are. Give the poor girl a break. She’s sitting there alone and nervous. Let’s give her a chance."

"Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to sound rude. I just assumed an elf would be able to heal an infection." Sophie said casually.

The three walked to the back and Tyler sat closest to her and smiled.

"It’s good to see you again, I was kind of bummed when I woke up and you weren’t there. Your note was nice though, thank you."

She blushed and was really quiet.

"Oh, yeah, not a problem. It’s nice to see you again. Your friends seem nice!"

"I just met them both yesterday, just like you. I just figured the more people we get to know, the more likely I am not to end up in the infirmary again," Tyler joked, running his hand through his hair nervously.

Adam’s snake was very interested in Amanda and started making his way over to her, slowly wrapping around her leg and circling up to her shoulders.

"Don’t worry Amanda, Orochi is friendly, he just was intrigued by your presence, so he came to say hello is all. Just don’t be afraid, they feed off fear and if you’re afraid, he’ll think of you as a threat."

She took a deep breath. "Hey big guy! Your eyes are gorgeous. Can I pet you?"

Tyler swore he saw the snake nod his head yes as Amanda slowly petted the snake’s neck to its body gently.

"He likes you, he thinks you’re too shy. He’s telling me you need to be more confident," Adam said with a gentle smile.

"Aw, he’s so sweet. How long have you had him as a familiar?" She asked, finally speaking with confidence.

"For about 14 years now? You should have seen him when I got him! Tiny little thing, no bigger than my hand," he said while showing his large palm.

"Woah, seriously? That’s super cool." Tyler admitted.

Sophie wasn’t paying attention and was going through her cell phone as the Professor finally walked into the classroom.

"Hello everyone, I am Professor Ethan Vanhorn and I will be your homeroom teacher. This is an hour period for you to work on homework, socialize quietly or do as you please. I kindly ask you to remain polite to fellow students and if you need to leave for any reason, please ask me for a hall pass. That is all."

’Huh? That’s it... That’s kind of weird.’ Tyler thought while he watched Orochi disappear.

"Woah, where’d your familiar go?" Tyler asked Adam.

"I sent him away for now."

"To the Land of Summoned Monsters?"

Adam laughed. "What are you talking about bro? I just sent him to the Tamer’s dimension, where all the beasts go."

The professor overheard what Tyler said and raised his eyebrow.

’Interesting. He knows about the land of Eidolans... a summoner perhaps?’ he thought while scrolling through his student list.

"Oh. So wait, what’s the difference between a beast tamer and a summoner?" Tyler asked curiously.

"A tamer has to use animals and beasts they find on this planet and force them to work for them, you know, tame them?" Sophie said bluntly.

"Where a summoner can form contracts with beasts, summon them at will, use their magic, things like that."

"Yeah but Adam has the eye link with his snakes, isn’t that like using magic?"

"Completely different actually. That’s an acquired trait through time and training. If he’s had him since he’s a child he’s obviously grown and developed with him. Your phoenix should know all of this, why don’t you just ask him? Actually, how do you not know any of this?" Sophie asked, confused.

"I told you, I was home schooled. My parents passed away and they didn’t know much about summoners, you said they were really rare, right?"

"They are," Amanda politely interjected. "I don’t think I’ve ever met one until I met you."

"Come to think of it I don’t think I have either," Adam said while tapping his finger on his chin.

"Nor have I, which is why I figured you would know the difference if I do. I’m sorry if I sound rude to you three. I’m just having a rough day. My boyfriend broke up with me over the weekend and it’s been pretty shitty. We were together for like two years. He’s at Armitage Ability, our rival university and someone just posted a picture with them kissing and it’s annoying."

"Who the hell would break up with someone as pretty as you?" Tyler asked with a kind smile.

"Ya, seriously, you’re gorgeous Sophie. Someone will come around, don’t worry about it!" Amanda added.

"For real, fuck that asshole!" Adam laughed. "Don’t let a man get you down Sophie, you’re a B ranked bad ass with a bright future. If he can’t see that, that’s his loss. Plus screw those Armitage bastards. I hope we whoop their ass in the tournament this year."

"Tournament?" Tyler asked.
