Chapter 173: Inspection and Intention

"Please, take a seat," Feng offered, gesturing toward the lone chair.

"I prefer to stand," Yue replied, snapping her jade fan open. "I do not like sitting with my clients."

Feng chuckled nervously and shifted his posture. "We are hardly just clients. You are a close friend of our princess, making you practically part of the family."

"I prefer to leave royal and noble titles out of my business dealings," Yue countered smoothly.

Feng cleared his throat to move past the awkward rejection. "Allow me to introduce Lord Jian. He is the uncle of our princess and the brother of our queen."

Lord Jian offered a minimal nod without leaving his cushions.

"And who exactly did you bring into my chamber?" Feng asked, looking at the group of teenagers. "Introduce them."

Yue gestured toward the peach-haired boy. "This is Marco."

She pointed her fan toward Maximus, preparing to list his Vanguard credentials. Before she could speak another word, Feng raised his hand to cut her off. The commander looked directly at Solomon. The silver-haired boy stood tall, exuding a natural confidence that demanded attention.

"He must be the other noble," Feng assumed, nodding at Solomon. The commander then shifted his gaze toward Arthur. He curled his lip in obvious disgust at the boy’s thick spectacles and unimposing frame, completely ignoring him and failing to ask for a name. He also skipped Elizabeth entirely.

"We have wasted enough time," Feng declared, leaning forward. "Let us begin the discussion regarding the cultist threat."

Solomon stepped forward and planted his boots on the rug.

"I am Solomon," he announced, projecting his voice across the quiet room. He reached out and placed a firm hand directly on Arthur’s shoulder. "And his name is Arthur Vance."

[GoonLord: TELL HIM!]

[Chi_Master: the disrespect from this commander is insane.]

[Austin: I bet 1000 points Solo Man snaps and punches him.]

[Stephen-Wood: bro is not going to take that slide.]

[Dark_Skies: Arthur catching strays for no reason.]

[IceWaterKat: Solo Man protecting his squad!]

[Gray: bro just forced the introduction.]

Commander Feng flinched. His eyes widened in shock at the sudden interruption. He bristled at a mere teenager daring to speak out of turn in a royal chamber.

He glared at Solomon for a brief moment, but ultimately decided the boy was beneath his notice and turned his attention back to Yue to begin the briefing.

Commander Feng leaned over the plush sofa and steepled his fingers. He looked past the group of teenagers and focused exclusively on Yue.

"The Azure Moon Kingdom is currently under siege by the Crimson Bone Sect," Feng explained, keeping his posture rigid. "They operate as one of the Four Evil Sects alongside the Nether Fiend Sect. We have endured severe casualties along our borders over the past two weeks. The royal court had to cancel the upcoming summer festival and all public gatherings to prevent civilian slaughter."

Yue kept her jade fan poised near her collarbone. "Are they targeting your military outposts?"

"They are targeting the nobility," Feng corrected her. "They hunt our lords within the city walls and ambush their carriages on the outer roads. Their operations grow more frequent with every passing day, while their numbers swell beyond our initial projections."

[1Fizzy: Crimson Bone Sect sounds edgy.]

[James_hayes: so the cultists are coordinating attacks across all kingdoms.]

[Fatal_Beauty: another cult? Solo Man is going to have a field day.]

Lord Jian shifted on his luxurious silk cushions. He finally opened his eyes and looked at the pavilion master.

"The sheer volume of attackers is a minor issue compared to the rot inside our own walls," Jian stated. "The Crimson Bone Sect managed to bribe our officials. They infiltrated the palace staff. We caught one hundred and twelve active spies just this morning before the sun even cleared the horizon."

Solomon furrowed his brow and listened to the numbers. He mentally compared the situation to the Azure Dragon Sect’s recent purge.

"Most of the traitors were standard and personal servants,," Jian continued, his voice echoing across the vaulted chamber. "However, eleven of them were the gate guards. One of them was an anointed knight. We executed them in the courtyard."

[Chi_Master: a knight turned traitor?]

[Stephen-Wood: wait, knights are supposed to be holy warriors.]

[Foodball: the corruption is spreading.]

[Mezz_3863: Solo Man knows a thing or two about knights lol.]

Lord Jian rubbed the gemstone rings adorning his fingers. "A knight possesses wealth and supreme status within this kingdom. Gold and earthly power mean very little to a man who already wields both. We cannot figure out how the cultists buy their loyalty. We do not know what kind of leverage they offer. That paranoia is exactly why our security checkpoints are so strict today. We trust no one."

Solomon crossed his arms over his chest. He tapped his boot against the patterned rug. He recalled the mocking laughter of the sentries at the doors and the commander’s dismissive attitude.

"Conducting a thorough inspection is one thing," Solomon commented, stepping forward to draw the attention of the two royal officials. "Throwing insults is another. You cannot disguise your terrible manners as a security protocol."

Commander Feng clenched his jaw and glared at the silver-haired boy.

"A guard performing a security check looks for weapons and spies," Solomon pointed out, keeping his tone conversational yet firm. "A guard mocking guests and laughing at them just wants to feel superior. Intentions matter. It is very clear what your men were doing out there in the hallway."

[Austin: BRO IS COOKING THEM!]

[GoonLord: TELL THEM KING!]

[Last_Fables: he really doesn’t let anything slide.]

[Grim: the commander is fuming right now.]

[IceWaterKat: Solo Man dropping facts.]

[M00N: Elizabeth is probably cheering in her head.]

Lord Jian narrowed his eyes at the teenager. He gripped the armrest of his sofa, clearly displeased by the sudden reprimand from a commoner.

’They expect everyone to just nod and accept their excuses,’ Solomon thought, meeting the lord’s gaze without blinking. ’I have zero patience for politicians who hide their arrogance behind a badge.’
