Chapter 174: The Supposed Mission

Commander Feng shifted his gaze from Lord Jian and glared at the silver-haired boy. "Who are you?"

"I introduced myself five minutes ago," Solomon replied, resting his hands in his pockets.

"Which noble house do you belong to?" Feng demanded, his tone dripping with disdain.

"I am a commoner," Solomon answered flatly.

Feng slammed his hand against the armrest of his plush sofa. He stood up and pointed a finger directly at Solomon’s face. "Then why are you speaking without permission? I let your first outburst slide, but how dare a low-born commoner interrupt Lord Jian while he is speaking? You have absolutely zero right to talk back to us in this chamber."

Solomon tilted his head and offered a dry smile. "I was pointing out a massive flaw in your logic. If your own knights and guards are taking bribes from an evil sect, maybe you should teach them how to actually do their jobs instead of letting them act like arrogant tavern drunks at the front door. Respect goes both ways."

[1Fizzy: OH HE TOLD HIM!]

[Fatal_Beauty: Solo Man does not care about rank at all.]

[Mezz_3863: bro is speedrunning getting arrested.]

[Stephen-Wood: the commander is shaking with angerr.]

[James_hayes: logical comeback vs angry politician.]

[Chi_Master: 1000 points says a fight breaks out right now.]

Feng turned a shade of purple in anger as the veins on his neck bulged against his silver collar.

"Seize him!" Feng ordered the surrounding guards. "Drag this nuisance out of my chamber immediately!"

Four armored sentries stepped forward. They reached out to grab Solomon’s shoulders and arms. Solomon shifted his weight and swatted their hands away. The sentries growled and lunged forward aggressively to tackle him.

Solomon planted his boots on the rug and simply shoved the two closest guards backward to create some space.

He entirely forgot to account for the Indefatigable passive ability constantly pooling strength into his muscles. The casual push carried the kinetic force of a battering ram. The two armored guards flew backward, rolling violently across the polished marble floor before crashing into a decorative wooden table.

The remaining guards instantly drew their swords and halberds. They formed a tight circle around Solomon, pointing their sharp weapons directly at his chest.

[Austin: BRO HE SENT THEM FLYING!]

[Foodball: the strength difference is hilarious.]

[IceWaterKat: oops. pressed the wrong button.]

[Grim: the guards are rethinking their career choices.]

[Berrel: they pulled swords on an unarmed student lol.]

Feng stepped out from behind his sofa. "You are allowed to strike him down if he continues to resist," Feng commanded his men. "If he wants to act like an uneducated barbarian, treat him like one."

Solomon glanced at the sharp steel pointed at his gray academy uniform. He let out a long sigh and turned his head to look at the Tenth Pavilion Master.

"I am out," Solomon told Yue, crossing his arms over his chest. "I do not care about the academy star or this mission anymore. Dealing with these politicians is a headache. I would rather go train back at the dirt rings."

Solomon grabbed the heavy leather strap of his executioner’s sword. He forcefully shoved past the armored guards, pushing their halberds aside with his bare hands. He marched straight out of the grand mahogany doors without looking back.

Elizabeth did not hesitate for a single second. She turned on her heel and followed Solomon out of the chamber in complete silence.

Arthur adjusted his thick spectacles and hurried after them. Maximus picked up his bronze shield and jogged to catch up with the group.

Marco stood near the center of the room. He looked at the furious commander, glanced at Yue, and then stared at the open doorway.

"Learning the thirteenth step of the Azure Crane Blade is vastly more important to me," Marco announced, scratching the back of his neck. "I only came here because of Solomon anyway."

The peach-haired boy bowed his head slightly toward his sister and sprinted out of the room to join the others.

[M00N: the whole squad walked out!]

[Fatal_Beauty: Elizabeth following him instantly is so cute.]

[1Fizzy: Marco knows where the real training is.]

[James_hayes: leaving the pavilion master behind lmao.]

[Dark_Skies: the commander is fuming.]

Feng let out a loud scoff as the teenagers disappeared down the corridor. "Good riddance," he muttered, waving for his guards to sheathe their weapons.

He turned his attention back to Yue. The pavilion master kept her jade fan resting calmly against her collarbone.

"Let us continue," Feng said, sitting back down on his sofa. "We have an upcoming royal sermon later this week. The entire kingdom will gather, and we absolutely cannot cancel or postpone the event. Your job is to protect the princess during the ceremony. Furthermore, you will report any suspicious activity directly to Lord Jian. You will receive your payment in full once the royal sermon concludes."

Yue snapped her jade fan open and hid her smile. "I have not confirmed that I will accept this mission."

Feng frowned and gestured toward the open doors. "You were called here specifically for this mission. Why else would you travel all the way from the sect?"

"I came here to listen to the details," Yue corrected him. "Now that I have heard them, I have decided not to accept the request."

Feng narrowed his eyes. "Is the compensation amount too low? We can negotiate a higher bounty."

A light laugh escaped Yue’s lips. "This has absolutely nothing to do with the money. As Lord Jian so graciously pointed out earlier, gold clearly did not buy the loyalty of your own knights."

Feng bristled at the mockery. "You are a close friend of the princess. You have a duty to protect her during a crisis."

"I am here as the Tenth Pavilion Master of the Azure Dragon Sect," Yue replied smoothly. "I am not here as a friend."

She turned gracefully toward the exit and looked back over her shoulder.

"You seem to have forgotten the dynamic of our relationship," Yue added. "I am not the client here. You are. That means I get to choose what jobs I take."

Yue walked out of the grand discussion chamber, leaving the royal commander and Lord Jian sitting in total silence.
