Solomon picked up his silver spoon and scooped a small amount of the clear broth from his bowl. He tasted the liquid and immediately dropped the utensil onto his ceramic plate with a loud clatter. The noise drew the attention of the surrounding diners.
"Is something wrong with the food?" Lune asked, pausing her own meal.
"The broth lacks any real kick," Solomon complained, pushing the bowl an inch forward. "I need some crushed fire-root spice to fix the flavor."
Lune raised her hand to signal a nearby maid. Solomon immediately reached over and gently pushed her arm back down.
"Wait," Solomon cautioned, keeping his voice loud enough for the entire room to hear. "Lord Jian just mentioned catching over a hundred spies this morning. They infiltrated the staff and the guards. I simply cannot trust a random servant to fetch my spices. They might slip a slow-acting poison into the jar."
He turned his head and pointed a finger directly at Commander Feng standing by the wall.
"However, I completely trust Commander Feng," Solomon announced with a bright, innocent smile. "He was incredibly concerned about your safety in the garden earlier. A man with that much dedication and worry for the royal family is the only person I can rely on right now. Commander, please fetch the fire-root spice for me. Make sure you test it yourself."
Feng stiffened his spine until his armor creaked. His face turned a brilliant shade of crimson. ’This filthy peasant dares to treat me like a common errand boy!’ Feng screamed in his mind. He gripped the pommel of his sword, fighting the urge to draw the steel right there in the dining hall.
He glanced toward the head of the table. Lord Jian offered a subtle, commanding nod. The royal decree forced Feng to comply. The commander marched out of the grand doors, his metal boots stomping furiously against the marble floor.
The floating bronze owl zoomed in on Feng’s retreating back.
[GoonLord: AHAHAHA HE SENT HIM TO THE KITCHEN!]
[Stephen-Wood: the ultimate payback!]
[James_hayes: Solo Man is treating the commander like a waiter.]
[Austin: Feng is literally boiling inside his armor.]
[Mezz_3863: it has just begun!]
Feng returned a few minutes later. He placed a small silver dish of red spice onto the table right next to Solomon’s plate.
The commander’s hand trembled with suppressed rage as he pulled away.
"Thank you for your hard work," Solomon praised patronizingly. He sprinkled the spice over his broth and took another bite of his roasted meat.
A few seconds later, Solomon let out a dramatic sigh and dropped his fork.
"The meat is too dry," Solomon stated, looking at his plate with absolute disappointment. "I need a sweet glaze to balance the texture. Also, I want a side of sliced sun-peaches. They have to be peeled perfectly. Leaving the skin on completely ruins the flavor profile."
Lune opened her mouth to speak, but Solomon cut her off with a wave of his hand.
"Commander Feng," Solomon called out, looking over his shoulder. "You know the drill. We cannot risk the kitchen staff poisoning the fruit. Please go peel some sun-peaches for me. Oh, wash your gauntlets first."
Feng stopped breathing for a fraction of a second. The veins on his forehead bulged outward. ’I will butcher him. I will cut him into tiny pieces the second he steps outside the palace walls,’ Feng vowed internally.
He ground his teeth together so hard a loud squeak echoed from his jaw. He turned on his heel and marched back to the kitchens.

[Scott_Carson: bro is abusing his power and I love it.]
[ZoomTech: making a knight peel peaches is wild.]
[Fatal_Beauty: Solo Man is a menace to the royal court.]
[1Fizzy: Elizabeth is trying so hard not to laugh right now.]
[LastFables: What happened to stop being ’reckless’?]
Elizabeth covered her mouth with her hand. She stared down at her lap to hide the massive grin stretching across her face. Arthur looked absolutely horrified by the blatant disrespect, while Marco simply shook his head and focused on his own meal.
Feng eventually returned with a crystal bowl filled with sliced fruit. He slammed the bowl onto the table. A piece of peach nearly bounced over the rim.
Solomon picked up a slice with his wooden chopsticks and inspected the edges. "You missed a tiny spot of skin on this piece, Commander. I will let it slide this time since you are clearly trying your best to learn the hospitality ropes."
Feng clamped his jaw shut and retreated to his post by the wall. He stared at the silver-haired boy with pure rage and hatred.
Solomon picked up his empty crystal cup and swirled the remaining ice cubes. He looked right back at the furious commander and offered a cheerful wave.
"My cup is empty," Solomon pointed out. "I need some fresh spring water. Please bring a pitcher, and make sure your armor does not clink too much on the way back. It distracts me from my meal."
[Chi_Master: HE IS DOING IT AGAIN!]
[Mezz_3863: Feng is going to explode.]
[Foodball: 10/10 customer service.]
[IceWaterKat: Solo Man just found a new hobby.]
[Dark_Skies: the commander’s career is officially over.]
[Johnson: bro doesn’t hold back in his revenge.]
Solomon kept the ridiculous requests going for the remainder of the banquet. He ordered Feng to replace a dropped silver fork, requested a different woven napkin, and forced the furious man to wipe a spilled drop of water from the polished mahogany.
The hovering bronze owl broadcasted the entire ordeal. The chat interface overflowed with laughing emojis and constant praises for the satisfying retaliation.
The evening meal eventually concluded. Marco, Arthur, Maximus, and Elizabeth returned to their designated guest quarters to rest before their morning training.
Lune tapped Solomon on the shoulder and guided him out of the dining hall for a quiet walk through the moonlit courtyards.
Only Lord Jian, Matriarch Lihua, Feng, and a few armored sentries remained inside the vast room.
Feng immediately marched up to the head of the banquet table. He slammed his gauntleted fist against the wood.
He was there to get justice.
