Chapter 181: Training Date

Commander Feng navigated the descending stairwell toward the training grounds. He formulated a precise plan to teach the commoner a painful lesson.

’I am not stupid,’ Feng reasoned to himself. Attacking the boy directly in the dark would enrage Princess Lune and invite severe consequences. He needed a valid, legal excuse to punish Solomon.

He smiled in the shadows. He would challenge the boy to a formal spar under the guise of evaluating his martial abilities for the upcoming royal sermon. During the duel, Feng planned to strike hard enough to break his bones, leaving the peasant bedridden for weeks. The boy would beg for mercy on the dirt floor.

Feng understood arrogance perfectly. Solomon possessed boundless pride. If challenged in front of the princess, the boy would surely accept to impress her. Once injured in a sanctioned duel, no one could legally blame the commander for an unfortunate training accident.

While walking, Feng suddenly stopped. A troubling realization crossed his mind.

Why did Princess Lune favor a commoner so much? Why would she roam the palace with him so late at night without any royal guards nearby?

’Are they having some kind of secret affair?’ Feng wondered, his hands curling into tight fists. ’What if they are engaging in inappropriate acts down in the training grounds right now?’

He resumed walking, increasing his pace significantly. He muttered bitter curses under his breath about a dirty commoner daring to even think of touching a royal princess.

Meanwhile, Lune guided Solomon past the wooden practice dummies in the royal armory.

"You lied to me earlier," Lune commented, keeping her hands clasped behind her back.

Solomon blinked in confusion. "What are you talking about?"

"You claimed you were trying to stop being reckless," Lune pointed out, a playful smirk touching her lips. "Yet you acted incredibly reckless in the dining hall with Commander Feng."

Solomon shrugged his shoulders. "Those were my genuine worries. I simply wanted to ensure the food was safe for you."

Lune rolled her eyes, refusing to buy the obvious excuse. The hovering bronze owl adjusted its lens, and the chat interface flooded with similar doubts.

[1Fizzy: bro is the king of cap.]

[Tyler_Klare: Solo Man literally tortured the commander for fun.]

[Scott_Carson: genuine worries my foot lol.]

[Chi_Master: he just wanted to watch Feng suffer.]

Lune let out a bright laugh. "I should be very careful not to anger you. Your revenge is remarkably petty and dangerous."

"It might be too late for that now," Solomon responded sarcastically.

Lune laughed even harder at the remark. The moonlight illuminated her golden hair and emerald eyes. She looked breathtaking. Solomon found himself truly captivated by her features. She possessed a natural beauty, yet seeing her smile and act so warmly made him painfully conscious of her presence.

Solomon quickly looked away and covered the lower half of his face with his hand.

’This is bad,’ Solomon thought to himself, his heart beating faster. ’Why is she acting like this?’

He vastly preferred it when she acted harsh and direct. Maintaining a straight face against her usual royal stoicism felt easy. Now that she smiled so genuinely, he had no idea how to even look at her without losing his composure.

[Fatal_Beauty: OMG HE IS BLUSHING!]

[GoonLord: LOOK AT HIM COVER HIS FACE!]

[Stinosaurus: the battle maniac is malfunctioning over a smile.]

[Mezz_3863: system error. romance not found.]

[ZoomTech: Solo Man finally taking damage.]

[James_hayes: bro can fight an angel but cannot handle a laughing girl.]

Lune tilted her head and noticed his hand obscuring his face. "What happened?"

Solomon quickly dropped his hand and turned his attention toward the weapon racks. "A bug just flew near my eye. The insects in this kingdom are unusually aggressive at night."

[1Fizzy: the worst excuse of the century.]

[Mezz_3863: bro is malfunctioning over a smile.]

[Fatal_Beauty: he is so flustered!]

[James_hayes: a bug? really?]

Lune did not buy the excuse, yet she let the topic slide. She walked toward the center of the dirt ring and turned around. "Would you like to spar with me?"

Solomon immediately agreed. He grabbed the thick leather strap of Eden’s Penance and hauled the executioner’s sword off his back. He pointed the pristine steel tip directly at her boots.

"You will need to try harder today," Solomon provoked, offering a confident grin. "You lost to me last time we fought."

Lune drew her silver rapier with a sharp metallic ring. "That was a fistfight down in the mud. I did not lose that match. You played dirty and took advantage of the situation. I won’t be holding back this time."

"A victory remains a victory regardless of the methods used," Solomon countered, stepping onto the compacted earth.

They closed the distance and exchanged a series of basic blows. The pristine steel of his greatsword clanged loudly against her lithe rapier. They circled each other on the training ground, testing their footing and parrying simple thrusts.

"Should we add a condition to this duel?" Lune asked, stepping back to create some space. "Perhaps a winning demand?"

Solomon rested his weapon against his collarbone. "It does not matter to me since I am going to win anyway. You can set whatever conditions you want."

Lune lowered her rapier slightly. "Since this is not a life-and-death duel, I cannot use my talent. My ability guarantees a lethal strike. Therefore, you should not use your talent either."

"I will not need to use my talent to beat you," Solomon agreed, perfectly willing to hide the passive nature of his Convergence ability.

"We should also restrict our aura," Lune added.

"Agreed," Solomon replied.

Their duel commenced in earnest. They exchanged rapid attacks across the dirt ring. Solomon relied entirely on his basic swordsmanship foundation, intentionally avoiding the destructive Eden Imperial Sword Arts.

He deflected her precise lunges with the broad side of his blade, while Lune danced around his sweeping arcs with royal footwork.

[M00N: no aura, no talents, just pure skill.]

[Stephen-Wood: Lune has amazing footwork.]

[Scott_Carson: Solo Man holding back the big moves today.]

[GoonLord: DO NOT LEAVE A SCRATCH ON HER!]

[Berrel: this is a great technical spar.]

[User12: bro I swear this is their way of flirting.]
