Chapter 245: Not So Distant Memory

It was Solomon’s fifteenth birthday.

He had just awakened an unprecedented SSS-rank talent known as Convergence. Almost instantly, he was completely swarmed by various global organizations, elite corporations, and top-tier adventurer guilds, all desperately clamoring to recruit the next potential world-ranker.

They showered him with luxurious contracts, signing bonuses, and access to the best training facilities on the planet.

However, six months later, the reality of his situation set in. He entirely failed to show any tangible results.

He could not figure out how to unlock, activate, or even comprehend his dormant talent. Realizing their massive investments were yielding absolutely zero returns, almost 80% of those elite organizations swiftly kicked him to the curb, demanding their money back and labeling him a fraud.

He drifted from rejection to rejection until he was finally recruited by a small, underfunded district guild that did not even possess an official name. It was simply referred to as ’District Guild 7’, boasting a meager roster of exactly 69 members.

Even though the guild was incredibly small and lacked prestige, their facilities were surprisingly excellent, and the training equipment was the best and latest technology available on the local market.

Solomon spent three months training relentlessly within their walls. He still could not figure out how his talent worked, but the guild leadership never once threatened to kick him out or demanded immediate, miraculous results.

They simply let him train, offered constructive tips, and patiently helped him whenever he failed to understand a combat mechanic.

He managed to make a few genuine friends during his time there. One of them was Serah, the daughter of the guild leader and the primary sword instructor who personally taught him the foundations of close-quarters combat.

Serah was incredibly strict. She would yell and physically beat Solomon into the dirt whenever he failed to follow her precise instructions. She frequently forced him into brutal sparring matches just to build his combat experience and situational awareness.

One day, directly in the middle of a heated duel, Solomon bluntly confessed his love to her.

He was immediately rejected and subsequently beaten senseless in the remainder of the spar. However, Solomon stubbornly refused to give up, casually expressing his love for her almost every single day.

Eventually, she grew tired of his persistence. She told him that if he could ever manage to beat her in a duel, she would finally accept his feelings.

Solomon took the challenge incredibly seriously. He trained harder than ever before and eventually managed to disarm her during a spar, claiming victory.

However, he only won because she was secretly suffering from a severe injury sustained during a recent dungeon expedition, a fact she had intentionally hidden from him to avoid worrying the guild.

Needless to say, Solomon immediately asked her to fulfill her promise. She flatly refused. She pointed out that she was a twenty-year-old seasoned adventurer, while he was not even sixteen yet.

The age gap and maturity difference made the arrangement completely impossible.

Solomon did not like that answer at all. He promised her that he would become incredibly strong. He vowed that once he finally awakened his SSS-rank talent, he would become the strongest Awakener in the entire world, and then she would be the one coming to him.

Serah simply laughed it off as a childish boast.

Yet, ever since that specific rejection, Solomon displayed visible, exponential improvements. His dedication skyrocketed. He mastered the training drills, passed every single physical test, and consistently broke the guild’s fitness records.

Unfortunately, he could never secure his official Adventurer License because the governmental exams strictly required the active demonstration of an awakened talent. Even the guild leadership could not pull enough strings to bypass the bureaucratic laws of the Adventurer Association.

Behind the scenes, District Guild 7 was desperately struggling to keep up with their mounting expenses.

Their roster decreased almost every single day as veteran members jumped ship for better, officially named guilds offering higher salaries. The primary income for any guild always stemmed from clearing high-tier dungeons and securing exclusive expedition rights.

However, Guild 7 lacked the massive capital required to bid against the top-tier corporations for those lucrative dungeon rights. They could not even participate in shared, multi-guild expeditions because the larger factions demanded exorbitant entry fees and heavily skewed the reward shares in their own favor.

That left the struggling guild with only public dungeons, which always featured days-long waiting lines and strictly limited entry to a maximum of three members per guild per week.

Despite their impending bankruptcy, the guild poured a massive portion of their remaining budget directly into Solomon’s development.

They gambled their entire future on the desperate hope that he would eventually unlock his SSS-rank talent and save the faction, even though they knew there was a high risk he would simply abandon them for a better guild the second he gained real power.

Over the next few months, Solomon memorized and integrated dozens of basic combat skills, utilizing and mixing the contradictory foundations until he evolved into a genuinely formidable fighter.

He eventually challenged Serah to another duel. This time, she was completely healthy, and he managed to defeat her through pure tactical skill and relentless stamina.

Shortly after that victory, they finally began going out.

Serah’s bright, smiling face and the echo of her strict voice flashed vividly through Solomon’s mind as his silver eyes slowly fluttered open.

He woke up inside a dimly lit canvas tent. He stared up at the fabric ceiling, his mind foggy and disoriented.

"Why on earth did I just have a dream about her after so long?" Solomon muttered, his voice raspy and dry.

He groaned, his entire body aching as he pushed himself up into a seated position. He glanced around the sparse medical cot, desperately trying to piece together his fragmented memories.

"What happened?" Solomon whispered, rubbing his temples. "Did I defeat the Winter Snow Serpent? Who brought me back to the camp?"

He instinctively turned his head to check his stream interface. "Chat, what did I miss?"

He received no response. The familiar blue glowing screen did not materialize.

Solomon glanced around the tent and quickly realized his mechanical bronze owl was nowhere to be found.

"Was it destroyed in that final attack?" Solomon wondered, recalling the apocalyptic scale of his final silver strike. He let out a long, exhausted sigh. "That is the second time a drone has been destroyed on my watch. I bet the grandmaster would be fuming right now"

The grandmaster of the Live Streaming Academy was, in fact, fuming.

He carefully swung his legs over the side of the cot and stood up, testing his balance. His physical injuries had healed, but he still felt a lingering emptiness from his depleted aura reserves.

He looked around the corners of the medical tent, searching for his gear. He quickly noticed a glaring absence.

Eden’s Penance was nowhere to be seen.
