Chapter 271: Repaying the Debt (2)

Solomon casually walked over to one of the plush leather chairs positioned in front of the desk and sat down. Richard slowly sank back into his own high-backed executive chair, while Marcus remained standing rigidly by the floor-to-ceiling glass window.

Marcus and Richard exchanged a rapid, silent conversation with their eyes, silently confirming the trap was set and they just needed to stall for time.

Solomon adjusted his seating, pushing the backrest to recline comfortably. He then lifted his boots that were still smeared with dirt and fresh blood, and planted them directly onto the surface of Richard’s desk.

Then, he let out a loud, exaggerated sigh.

"What kind of terrible hospitality is this?" Solomon complained, crossing his arms behind his head. "Nobody is even asking me if I would like a glass of water or something to drink. And where are the documents I asked for?"

Marcus’s face flushed red. He was visibly furious at the blatant disrespect, but Richard shot him a sharp glare, silently ordering him to remain calm.

Richard picked up his desk phone and pressed a button. "Are the Ketzer files ready yet?" he asked the voice on the other end.

A few moments later, a junior clerk stepped nervously into the office, clutching a thick manila folder. The clerk was visibly trembling. He had just walked past dozens of unconscious, bleeding enforcers littering the hallway outside, only to find a teenager sitting in the boss’s office with his bloody shoes on the desk, acting as if he owned the entire building.

Even more baffling, Richard was actually entertaining the boy.

The clerk hastily placed the file on the edge of the desk and took a quick step back.

"What would you like to drink?" Richard asked Solomon, forcing a polite, corporate smile.

"I will have a milk tea," Solomon responded casually.

Richard gestured to the trembling clerk. "Go bring him a freshly brewed milk tea."

The clerk nodded frantically and practically sprinted out of the office.

Richard picked up the manila folder, opened it, and briefly flipped through the pages to ensure everything was in order. He slid the file across the desk. "Here is everything you requested. The original deeds, the loan agreements, and the payment schedules."

Solomon pulled his boots off the desk and picked up the folder. He read through the primary names, the terms and conditions, and the fine print of the original agreement. He flipped through the pages, meticulously reading the various legal clauses, before finally reaching the banking statements and the payment receipts.

While Solomon was occupied with the paperwork, Marcus caught Richard’s eye. The thug subtly pointed to a concealed dagger hidden inside his suit jacket, silently asking if he should just step forward and stab the kid in the neck while he was distracted.

Richard gave a tiny, almost imperceptible shake of his head. ’No. Wait for the backup to lock the floor.’

CLACK!

Solomon suddenly slammed the open file down onto the desk. "There is an error in your calculations."

Richard raised an eyebrow, maintaining his calm facade. "That is impossible. Our accounting systems are flawless."

He picked the file back up and scanned the pages. After a moment, he looked at Solomon in genuine confusion. "There is no error here. What are you talking about?"

Solomon leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "Check page four, table section B, line seventeen. Look at the date and time logged for that transaction. My father was paying fifty thousand dollars every single month. Based on the original principal, the loan should have been completely paid off and finalized six months ago. But the second the remaining principal hit five hundred thousand dollars, instead of the monthly payments reducing the debt, the principal suddenly started increasing. Furthermore, the compounded interest amount never decreased to reflect the payments."

Richard frowned. He pulled a pair of reading glasses from his pocket and looked closely at the specific line Solomon had mentioned. He scowled, spending the next few seconds staring intently at the printed numbers.

He placed the file back down on the desk. "You are correct. There is indeed a mathematical mistake here. Errors like these are incredibly rare since the entire amortization process is computed by an automated machine algorithm. There is virtually zero human involvement in this calculation phase."

Solomon maintained a completely blank, emotionless expression. "I think you forgot the part where that is supposed to be my problem."

Richard clamped his jaw shut. "I will have Marcus recalculate the ledger manually and fix this mistake immediately."

At that moment, the nervous clerk returned to the office carrying a porcelain cup and saucer filled with freshly brewed milk tea. He carefully placed the hot beverage onto the desk near Solomon and quickly stepped away.

’What a stupid bastard,’ Richard thought to himself. ’Who carelessly drinks something at the enemy’s place? Looks like he is all muscle with no brain. Maybe I should have asked Marcus to mix something in the tea. That would have been easier to deal with.’

Solomon grabbed the delicate handle of the cup and picked up the saucer. He brought the steaming tea close to his mouth. Suddenly, he let his fingers go limp, pretending as if his hand had naturally slipped.

He dropped the cup and the saucer directly onto the floor. The porcelain shattered into dozens of pieces, splashing hot milk tea all over the expensive rug and Richard’s polished leather shoes.

"Ow," Solomon groaned, shaking his hand with an exaggerated, incredibly annoying sigh. "That was way too hot. You should really warn people before handing them boiling liquids."

Richard gripped the armrests of his chair, fighting desperately to hold his anger in check, while Marcus was practically fuming by the window, his hand hovering over his concealed dagger.

"It is fine," Richard said through gritted teeth, forcing a strained smile. "I will have him brew you another cup right now."

"There is no need," Solomon stopped him, waving a hand dismissively. "I am not in the mood for tea anymore."

The terrified clerk bowed hastily and fled the office, leaving the three of them alone with the shattered porcelain and the tense silence.

’When are they going to lose their cool?’ Solomon wondered.

Solomon looked directly at Richard, tapping his fingers against the armrest. "So, what are we going to do about this now?"

Richard folded his hands on his desk. "The mathematical mistake will be manually recalculated and fixed. Once the true balance is determined, if there is any remaining principal owed, your father will still have to pay it."

Solomon clicked his tongue repeatedly, waving his hand in a highly dismissive gesture. "The loan has already been paid off fully. In fact, based on the math, your company is the one who is supposed to return the extra money my parents overpaid."

Richard chuckled nervously, trying to maintain his corporate composure. "If there is any pending amount owed to your family, we will surely refund it. But we have to thoroughly check and verify everything first. It might simply be a printing error, a minor calculation glitch, or it might be something else entirely."

H shrugged his shoulders. "It might not even be a mistake at all. Perhaps there was some kind of late penalty or breach fee that the system forgot to add to the visual ledger. As I said before, automated mistakes like this are incredibly rare, so it is highly likely it is not a mistake at all."

Solomon pushed the back of his chair, reclining even further. "I can wait. I will just sit right here and wait until you finish your verification process."

Richard frowned. "Things do not happen like that in a corporate environment. There are strict procedures, verification steps, and multiple accounting departments involved. It will take a minimum of a few weeks to process a full audit."

"Then I will just wait a few weeks right here," Solomon responded effortlessly.

Richard dropped his polite smile. "You are overstepping your boundaries now, kid."

Solomon pushed his boots down heavily. The sheer, concentrated physical force shattered the thick mahogany desk straight down the middle. Splinters of expensive wood and paperwork scattered across the rug.

Solomon stood up, staring coldly at the two men. "You are the ones who overstepped. Unless I get what I want, I will not be leaving this building."

Richard swallowed hard, staring at the ruined desk. ’Just a few more minutes,’ Richard thought frantically, praying the lockdown sequence was almost complete. ’Just a few more minutes and he will not be able to leave this floor even if he begs.’
