The world disappeared.
Not shattered.
Not destroyed.
It simply vanished beneath my feet.
One second, I was standing in front of my childhood home with my mother.
The next, there was nothing.
No ground.
No sky.
No city.
No sound.
I was falling through darkness.
"Mom!"
My voice disappeared.
I reached out.
Nothing.
Then something grabbed my wrist.
I looked up.
Noah.
He was falling beside me, holding onto my arm with one hand.
"Got you!"
"Where’s everyone else?"
"I don’t know!"
Ryan appeared above us.
Then Marcus.
Ethan.
Daniel.
My father.
The First Reader.
The Editor.
Everyone was falling through the same endless darkness.
Ryan shouted,
"Does anyone know where we’re going?!"
My father answered,
"No!"
"Fantastic!"
The darkness around us suddenly brightened.
A massive eye opened.
It wasn’t above us.
It was everywhere.
Its pupil filled the entire void.
I felt it looking directly at me.
Then the voice came.
"ADRIAN."
My body froze.
The others couldn’t move either.
The voice wasn’t sound.
It was recognition.
Something had identified me.
The Creator.
The Listener.
The person.
The possibility.
Everything I’d ever been was being examined at once.
Then the eye blinked.
Reality returned.
We crashed onto solid ground.
I rolled across the floor and stopped against a wall.
Pain shot through my shoulder.
"Ow."
Ryan groaned nearby.
"I hate dimensional travel."
Noah sat up.
"Where are we?"
I looked around.
A city surrounded us.
But not Alisster.
This city was enormous.
Towering buildings stretched into the clouds.
Floating roads crossed between skyscrapers.
Vehicles moved silently through the air.
Thousands of people walked beneath holographic signs.
And above everything...
was the eye.
It covered the sky.
Not physically.
It appeared in the sky like a gigantic reflection.
Everyone in the city was looking at it.
Nobody screamed.
Nobody ran.
They simply stared.
My father slowly stood.
"I know this place."
I looked at him.
"Where?"
"The First City."
The First Reader’s face became pale.
"No."
My father looked at him.
"You know it too."
"That’s impossible."
"Apparently not."
I stood.
"The First City?"
My father nodded.
"The city where the first humans observed the Origin."
I looked around.
"Humans lived here?"
"Not exactly."
He pointed toward the buildings.
"This city existed before humanity."
I frowned.
"Then who built it?"
The First Reader answered.
"The first observers."
The same ones from the Tower.
The forgotten beings.
The ones who had first looked at existence and tried to understand it.
I stared at the sky.
"Why are we here?"
My mother wasn’t with us.
That scared me.
I turned toward my father.
"Where’s Mom?"
He looked around.
"I don’t know."
The eye blinked again.
Every person in the city disappeared.
Not died.
Disappeared.
Millions of people vanished simultaneously.
Ryan stared.
"Where did they go?"
The First Reader whispered,
"Nowhere."
I looked at him.
"What does that mean?"
"They were never part of this reality."
"What?"
"This is a memory."
The city flickered.
Buildings became transparent.
People returned.
Then disappeared again.
The First City wasn’t a physical place.
It was a preserved memory of the first civilization.
And the Origin had brought us here.
I walked forward.
"Why?"
A voice answered.
"Because this is where it began."
I turned.
My mother stood at the end of the street.
Alive.
I ran toward her.
She smiled.
"I knew you’d come."
I stopped in front of her.
"What happened?"
"The Origin moved."
"You said it was trying to wake me."
"It was."
"Why?"
She looked toward the sky.
"Because you were asleep."
"I remember everything."
"No."
She shook her head.
"You remember your past."
"That’s different."
She touched my cheek.
"You still don’t remember what you are."
I frowned.
"What am I?"
She smiled sadly.
"The first human."
I stared.
"What?"
"You were created as a possibility."
"Then you gave me a body."
"Yes."
"And the original Adrian?"
"He was the first person who gave you a name."
"So I’m not human."
"You became human."
She looked into my eyes.
"That’s what makes you different."
I didn’t understand.
She continued.
"Most beings are born into reality."
"Some are created."
"Some are imagined."
"But you..."
She touched my chest.
"...chose reality."
The eye above us moved.
Everyone felt it.
My mother looked upward.
"It’s here."
The First Reader raised his weapon.
"What is?"
"The Origin."
The sky opened.
Something descended.
At first, I thought it was a creature.
Then I realized it wasn’t.
It was a shape.
A human silhouette formed from darkness.
No face.
No features.
Just a person-shaped absence.
It touched the ground.
The entire city trembled.
The First Reader fell to his knees.
"No..."
My father grabbed him.
"What?"
"It has a body."
"So?"
"It never needed one."
The figure looked at me.
Then spoke.
"CREATOR."
I felt the word enter my mind.
I shook my head.
"No."
"YOU ARE."
"I’m Adrian."
"ADRIAN IS A NAME."
"Yes."
"NAMES ARE CONTAINERS."
"I don’t care."
The figure moved closer.
"YOU CREATED THE FIRST MEMORY."
"I don’t remember."
"YOU CREATED THE FIRST OBSERVER."
"I don’t remember."
"YOU CREATED THE FIRST QUESTION."
I froze.
"What?"
My mother looked away.
The Origin continued.
"YOU ASKED YOURSELF WHY YOU EXIST."
The city disappeared.
A memory appeared.
Darkness.
Absolute nothingness.
Then me.
Not human.
Not physical.
Just consciousness.
I was alone.
I asked:
Why do I exist?
The question created an answer.
Reality.
I didn’t create reality because I wanted to.
I created it because I needed an answer.
The universe was the response to my question.
The Origin appeared beside me.
It wasn’t my creator.
It was my answer.
I stared at it.
"You..."
It nodded.
"I AM THE ANSWER YOU CREATED."
The revelation hit me harder than anything before.
The Origin wasn’t above me.
It wasn’t my creator.
It was something I had created before I even understood what creation meant.
I had created a question.
The question had created reality.
Reality had created the Origin.
The Origin had created the worlds.
Everything had come full circle.
The Origin stepped closer.
"YOU HAVE RETURNED TO THE BEGINNING."
I shook my head.
"No."
It stopped.
"I’m not going back."
"YOU MUST."
"Why?"
"BECAUSE THE QUESTION REMAINS UNANSWERED."
I looked at my mother.
"What question?"
She whispered,
"Why should you exist?"
I stared.
That was the first question.
The one that started everything.
The reason reality existed.
The reason I existed.
The reason every world existed.
And I finally understood.
I had spent my entire life looking for an answer.
But the answer wasn’t something I could discover.
It was something I had to choose.
I looked at the Origin.
"I exist because I choose to."
The entire city shook.
The Origin remained still.
"THAT IS NOT AN ANSWER."
"It is for me."
"YOU CANNOT CREATE YOUR OWN MEANING."
"Why not?"
"MEANING MUST BE GIVEN."
I smiled.
"By whom?"
Silence.
"Exactly."
I stepped forward.
"No one gets to decide why I exist."
The Origin’s body cracked.
"THEN YOU CHOOSE."
"Yes."
"AND IF YOUR CHOICE IS WRONG?"
"Then I’ll live with it."
"AND IF YOUR WORLD DIES?"
"I’ll mourn it."
"AND IF YOUR FRIENDS DIE?"
"I’ll remember them."
"AND IF YOU DIE?"
I paused.
Then smiled.
"Then someone else can remember me."
The Origin became completely still.
My mother began crying.
The First Reader stared at me.
My father smiled.
Noah stepped beside me.
Ryan followed.
Then Marcus.
Ethan.
Daniel.
One by one.
The Origin looked at all of us.
"YOU HAVE CREATED A COLLECTIVE OBSERVATION."
I nodded.
"Yes."
"THEN YOU NO LONGER REQUIRE ME."
The city began collapsing.
I reached toward my friends.
"Run!"
We ran.
The First City disintegrated behind us.
Buildings dissolved into memories.
The sky cracked.
The gigantic eye closed.
The Origin began disappearing.
But before it vanished, it looked at me one final time.
"YOU HAVE ANSWERED THE FIRST QUESTION."
I stopped.
"What happens now?"
The Origin smiled.
For the first time, I saw a face.
My face.
"NOW ASK ANOTHER."
It disappeared.
The First City vanished.
We fell again.
But this time...
there was light.
We landed on grass.
Real grass.
Real sunlight.
Real sky.
I slowly sat up.
Noah was beside me.
Ryan was lying on his back.
"Are we dead?"
"No."
"How do you know?"
I looked around.
Because I recognized the place.
Alisster.
But something was different.
The city was normal.
No cracks.
No doors.
No overlapping worlds.
No floating realities.
People walked normally.
Cars moved.
The sky was blue.
Everything was peaceful.
My father stood beside me.
"It’s over."
I looked at him.
"No."
He frowned.
"What?"
I felt something.
A vibration in my pocket.
I pulled out my phone.
The screen turned on.
One message.
FOUNDATIONAL COMMANDS COMPLETED.
I stared.
Then another appeared.
THE STORY HAS ENDED.
My heart stopped.
"What?"
A third message.
NEW STORY DETECTED.
I looked upward.
The sky flickered.
A tiny black dot appeared.
Then another.
Then thousands.
Stars.
But it was daytime.
The stars began forming a pattern.
A face.
My face.
The final message appeared.
WELCOME, CREATOR.
I stared at it.
Then smiled.
"Guess we’re not done."
Noah groaned.
"Of course we’re not."
Ryan sat up.
"Can we have one normal day?"
I laughed.
"Maybe."
Then my phone vibrated again.
This time, there was no System message.
No warning.
No command.
Just a text from an unknown number.
Adrian.
Your mother is waiting.
I looked toward the street.
My mother was standing there.
But she wasn’t alone.
Beside her stood another woman.
The same face.
The same eyes.
The black-eyed Guardian.
Except this time...
she was smiling.
And she wasn’t looking at me.
She was looking at my mother.
Then my mother whispered something.
Even from across the street, I could hear it.
"She’s back."
The Guardian turned toward me.
Her black eyes became blue.
She smiled.
And I realized the truth.
The Origin had never been the enemy.
It had been keeping something outside.
Something that had finally found a way in.
Something that even the Creator hadn’t created.
Something older than the first question.
The sky went completely dark.
And a voice whispered from somewhere beyond the stars.
"Now it’s my turn to ask a question." :::
