Chapter 606 - 389: Demon-Breaking Sword

Chapter 606: Chapter 389: Demon-Breaking Sword

Midnight.

The Forging room of the Maple City Star Association.

He ignited the Molten Fire, and the cold Forging Furnace gradually grew scorching hot. As the temperature rose, the entire room became as searing as a volcanic region, with waves of heat rolling out, twisting the very air with their intensity.

Zhou Chen set up several layers of Alchemy Barriers to block the surveillance cameras in the Forging room. Then, he took out a black and gold longsword. At the center of its hilt was a solemn and dignified emblem of a pair of scales.

The Sword of Law.

This Essence Armament, a gift from the Plague Doctor, contained the power of a Rule called "Judgment." It was incredibly lethal against those who had committed grave sins, but it had a fatal flaw: the Ability would only activate upon striking flesh. If it hit armor or a Shield, the Ability wouldn’t trigger. In terms of sheer sharpness, this Weapon was inferior to other swords of the same tier. As a result, the Sword of Law’s effectiveness was greatly diminished against armored foes.

It was a waste for such a fine Essence Armament to have such a fatal flaw, so Zhou Chen decided to reforge it.

He would use the Golden Dragon Scale and Bright Holy Dragon Scale from Erin as the main materials to increase its durability and sharpness, adding a Holy Light Anti-Demon Attribute. The Laine Kingdom had more than one Legendary Giant Dragon. There was the Golden Dragon, immune to Elemental and physical attacks, and the Bright Holy Dragon, which specialized in countering evil and Darkness. Erin was on very good terms with the Golden Dragon, and the various Giant Dragons also got along well with each other, so she had been gifted many Dragon Scales.

When Erin was afflicted with the Destined Death curse, the Bright Holy Dragon had even tried to help her with Purification, but unfortunately, it failed.

A dragon’s scales were, without a doubt, legendary materials. What’s more, these Giant Dragons were all Tier Five mythical creatures. Their Dragon Scales could even be used to forge a true Divine Artifact. Using them to upgrade the Sword of Law would absolutely result in a terrifying transformation for the Essence Armament.

In addition, there were supplementary materials: Pure White Source Stone, Celestial Fire Meteor Steel, fragments of the "Blade of Judgment"...

Zhou Chen’s plan was to retain the Sword of Law’s "Judgment" Skill, enhance it, and add a new "Anti-Demon" Skill. He intended to forge the Sword of Law into a Demon-Breaking Sword that would annihilate evil. Of course, the Weapon’s durability and sharpness had to be raised to the highest standard to face the enemies to come.

This was undoubtedly a difficult and time-consuming project. The step of melting the Dragon Scales alone would stump countless Blacksmiths, and he only had half a day.

He had to race against time.

Once the furnace fire reached the target temperature, Zhou Chen tossed in the six Dragon Scales first, increasing the flame’s intensity. A few minutes later, he placed the Sword of Law inside, followed by the Pure White Source Stone, Celestial Fire Meteor Steel, fragments of the Blade of Judgment, and the other materials.

As these materials were added, bursts of golden light began to emanate from the Forging Furnace, enveloping the entire room in a sacred glow.

Ten minutes later, the Sword of Law had turned a blazing red, like a red-hot iron ingot, radiating a blinding heat. The Pure White Source Stone, Celestial Fire Meteor Steel, and fragments of the Blade of Judgment had partially melted into searing molten metal, while the rest glowed a brilliant, fiery red.

One of the properties of the Molten Fire was its ability to heat objects rapidly. A normal Forging Flame would have taken at least several hours to bring the Sword of Law and the supplementary materials to a superheated state.

Zhou Chen converted his arm into its Essence state and reached into the Forging Furnace, retrieving the Sword of Law and a few of the red-hot solids. He then used Alchemy to manipulate the molten metal, making it flow out of the furnace through the air. The six Dragon Scales, however, were left inside to continue heating; even the Furnace Fire struggled to melt these indestructible scales.

The Bright Holy Dragon’s scales had begun to grow warm, but the Golden Dragon’s scales remained ice-cold, completely unaffected by the flames—this was the power of the Golden Dragon—immune to Elemental Attacks, it naturally had no fear of the Molten Fire’s heat.

Zhou Chen ignored the Dragon Scales for now. He summoned the Hammer of Forging and brought it down on the Sword of Law.

CLANG!

Forging of All Things!

The light emanating from the red-hot Sword of Law grew even more dazzling. Puddles of molten metal, controlled by Alchemy, were poured over it one by one, causing the fiery glow to intensify.

He then placed the few red-hot solid materials onto the blade. The moment they made contact, something strange happened: the solid materials melted like butter and were completely absorbed into the sword.

CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!

Zhou Chen began a rapid series of strikes. The clang of steel on steel was incessant, and countless sparks flew.

With each thunderous blow, the very essence of the Sword of Law began to change. The steel sparks that flew with every strike gradually vanished, replaced by a brilliant glare, as if divine weapons were clashing, that flickered without end.

The blinding light didn’t cause Zhou Chen’s eyes any pain. Instead, it illuminated the focus and fervor deep within his pupils. He was completely immersed in the world of Forging, lost in the Weapon before him.

Length, weight, Essence conductivity... all these elements had to be adjusted to a perfect state, one that suited him completely. The material fusion had to reach one hundred percent perfection... In the realm of creation, every Blacksmith or Alchemist was a perfectionist. Everyone wanted the item they poured their heart and soul into to be flawless.

An unknown amount of time passed before Zhou Chen stopped hammering. He wiped the sweat from his face and looked at the Forging Furnace.

Now, everything was ready except for the final, crucial step, but the six Dragon Scales still showed no signs of melting.

This was within Zhou Chen’s expectations. ’It’d be a miracle if the Molten Fire could actually melt the scales of a Tier Five Giant Dragon.’

After taking out the six Dragon Scales, Zhou Chen rested for a moment, then grabbed the Hammer of Forging and slammed it down on one of the Bright Holy Dragon Scales.

CRACK!

The Dragon Scale didn’t move an inch. The recoil was so strong it even made Zhou Chen’s hand go numb.

"So hard," Zhou Chen muttered, shaking his hand. He converted his entire body into Essence and relentlessly continued hammering, striking with frenzied force. With every blow, he channeled the full Authority of the Hammer of Forging, attempting to pulverize the Dragon Scale.

He only stopped when the recoil caused cracks to appear on his Essence-materialized arm.

The Bright Holy Dragon’s scale looked completely unscathed, but a fine, shimmering layer of golden dust had accumulated beside it.

Zhou Chen collected the golden dust. It weighed only about one gram.

He sighed to himself. ’I really overestimated myself. I thought I could refine at least one Dragon Scale, but just getting this single gram of powder is the absolute limit of what I can do right now. Handling Tier Five materials is just too difficult. Even using the Hammer of Forging the entire time, I could only break down this tiny amount.’

’Still, it’s enough.’

He placed the Sword of Law back into the Forging Furnace to heat it until it glowed red again. Then, he sprinkled the Bright Holy Dragon Scale powder onto the blade, and it was instantly absorbed.

Immediately after, the blade began to hum and vibrate. A line of brilliant light flared up, illuminating Zhou Chen’s face.

The blazing red color rapidly cooled and faded away, revealing, inch by inch, a brand-new, golden-glowing blade that emanated a sacred aura. The scales on the hilt had turned to gold, and the faint, majestic silhouette of a noble Bright Holy Dragon appeared on the blade. It spread its sky-blotting wings and roared at the heavens. A howling hurricane swept through the Forging room, and the majestic Dragon Might felt almost tangible.

Zhou Chen was dumbfounded.

’Just an insignificant gram of Dragon Scale powder has allowed the Sword of Law... no, the Demon-Breaking Sword to evolve to the same level as Dream Light and Shadow!’

’And Dream Light and Shadow was blessed by a Master Forger! It has the potential to become a Divine Artifact!’

It was truly a legendary material coveted by countless people; just a tiny amount could cause a Weapon to undergo an unimaginable transformation.

’If I could melt down all the Dragon Scales... could I forge a true Divine Artifact?’

Zhou Chen couldn’t help but let his imagination run wild, but he quickly shook his head and dismissed the fantasy. It had taken him herculean effort just to process a single Dragon Scale; who knew how long it would take to smelt all six. He hadn’t even considered using the Wish Bottle, as it would inevitably cost a huge amount of Prayer value, which he was currently short on. If he’d had more, like before, he might have given it a try.

Gazing at the Demon-Breaking Blade before him, which shone with a brilliant golden splendor, Zhou Chen reached out and gripped the hilt.

The Prayer System completed its scan in an instant, displaying a detailed description.

Four skills!

One more than he had originally expected—"Dragon Might."

"Haha!" Zhou Chen was ecstatic. It was impossible to say how happy he was. This was definitely a grand success in Forging!

After swinging the Demon-Breaking Blade through the air a few times with a SWISH, he gradually calmed down and took his phone out of his Storage Waist Bag to check the time.

4:32 PM!

His Forging this time had taken a full sixteen and a half hours, but he hadn’t noticed the passage of time at all.

"Damn it, my high-speed rail ticket expired!"

Zhou Chen was exasperated. He had originally planned to go to Hai City this morning, but he never expected the Forging to take so long. The ticket he’d bought in advance was now useless. He checked the remaining train schedules for the day; they were all at night. He definitely wouldn’t make it in time.

’I’d better ask the Prophet to open an Any Door. It’s a good chance to trade for some Forbidden Objects from the Star Association anyway...’

Zhou Chen contacted the "Prophet" without hesitation.

·

「Fifteen minutes later.」

Zhou Chen stepped out of the Any Door and arrived in Hai City—a first-tier metropolis on the Eastern Continent and an international hub.

In the fifteen minutes it took, he had used Forbidden Object C-332: Fire’s Demise and Forbidden Object C-013: Soul-Catching Camera, both confiscated from his assailants, to trade for three other Forbidden Objects from the Star Association as part of his pre-battle preparations.
