Chapter 610: Chapter 393: Calling for Backup
·
"The train has reached the terminal station. Please take all your personal belongings and exit the vehicle. Do not leave anything behind..."
Following the subway announcement, the doors opened, and passengers poured out, instantly crowding the platform before forming an orderly queue for the escalator.
Only when most of the passengers had left did Zhou Chen get up from his seat. He ambled out of the car and got on the escalator.
Behind him was a laughing, chatting couple who looked like tourists visiting Hai City, discussing the food they had eaten and the attractions they had visited during the day.
In front of him was a mother holding the hands of two small children. She looked to be in her early thirties, fashionably dressed with a mature charm. Further ahead was a young man with a guitar case on his back, dressed like an artist, listening to music on his wireless earbuds.
On the stairs nearby, people were walking instead. There was an angler carrying a bucket, a college student wearing a backpack, an office worker with a weary expression...
Everything seemed to be perfectly normal.
Soon, Zhou Chen exited the subway station and blended into the stream of people. In the blink of an eye, he vanished from the crowd as if he had evaporated into thin air.
His trackers in the shadows were thrown into momentary disarray, but they quickly calmed down and headed toward the outskirts of the city.
「Fifteen minutes later.」
The couple who had come to Hai City as tourists passed by a narrow alley. In that instant, a deathly chill surged out from the alley like a tidal wave, seeping into their souls and stinging every nerve. Clusters of electric sparks erupted from their bodies, as if they were malfunctioning machines.
The killing intent, empowered by "Aspiration of the Blue Clouds," now dealt physical damage, like an invisible pulse wave that instantly paralyzed the cyborgs’ twenty-one system modules. It forced the couple to drop their human-like camouflage, revealing their mechanical nature in a chaotic flash of light.
"We’ve been discovered!" the cyborg screamed over the comms channel. They reacted quickly, immediately entering a combat state. Sharp metal blades sprang from their arm plating, and at the same time, miniature Missile Launchers rose from their shoulders and opened fire on Zhou Chen in the alley.
’Missiles?’ Zhou Chen’s eyes narrowed.
’Even though this is near the outskirts and sparsely populated, it’s still part of the city. These guys actually dared to use miniature missiles!’
With a thought, a thick Spiritual Tentacle extended from behind him. The tentacle swatted the miniature missiles out of the air, causing them to explode. Flames shot into the sky, and a deafening roar shook the area as countless cars on the street blared their piercing alarms.
SWOOSH!
An Alchemy Dart stabbed into the ground in front of Zhou Chen. It exploded with a BANG, releasing a cloud of emerald-green toxic smoke. The weeds in the corner of the alley instantly withered, turning into grayish-white dust.
Zhou Chen’s skin rapidly lost moisture, becoming wrinkled and aged. He immediately activated his Cyan Flame to incinerate the poison that had invaded his body and the toxic smoke swirling around him. His powerful Life Force instantly restored his aged skin to its full vitality. Then, he stomped his foot and shot forward like an arrow. A dreamy light appeared in his hand and grew.
Their cybernetic eyes captured his high-speed movement, but the cyborgs’ nerves couldn’t react in time. The automated defense system took control of their bodies, initiating a defensive maneuver. The male cyborg raised his arms to block, crossing his two metal blades in front of him.
SHING!
The dreamy light flashed, and the two alloy blades were sliced apart as easily as tofu. Crimson warnings simultaneously appeared before the eyes of both the male and female cyborgs. The jets under their armpits and on their waists abruptly switched to a forward-facing position, blasting out Jet Flames to propel them away from the source of danger.
"Fuck, that’s military-grade Advanced alloy!" the male cyborg cursed. He had never seen anyone who could slice through military-grade alloy so easily!
"Create some distance first!" the female cyborg yelled. All the projectile weapons loaded on her body activated, unleashing a torrential downpour of bullets, missiles, and Alchemy Darts at Zhou Chen. Calculated by her assistance system, the barrage was fired rhythmically, sealing off all of his escape routes.
Pale flames ignited beneath Zhou Chen’s feet, and he instantly vanished. A blaze of fire suddenly flared up behind the male cyborg, and a sharp Crystal Spear Blade emerged from it, sweeping horizontally toward his waist.
But then, a thin, crystalline fishing line descended from nowhere and wrapped around the spear blade. An immense force traveled along the line, forcefully halting the horizontal slash. It then gave a sharp tug, nearly yanking Dream Light and Shadow right out of Zhou Chen’s hand.
’A fishing line?’ Zhou Chen saw clearly what was wrapped around his spear blade. He used Flame Teleportation again to vanish on the spot, causing the female cyborg’s stabbing metal blade to strike nothing but air.
"Be careful. This is a very tricky opponent," a muffled voice sounded in the cyborgs’ comms channel. On the roof of a nearby building, the angler who had been carrying the bucket earlier was now standing there. The fishing rod in his hands was bent into an arc as he strained with both arms, his muscles bulging, locked in a struggle with the prey on the other end of the line.
On the ground, Zhou Chen reappeared fifty meters away from his previous position. He struggled to pull on Dream Light and Shadow, wrestling with the angler while simultaneously trying to use the spear blade to cut the fishing line wrapped around it. But while the fishing line looked thin, its toughness was terrifying. Even Dream Light and Shadow couldn’t sever it.
After a few fruitless attempts, Zhou Chen immediately converted Dream Light and Shadow into Essence and retracted it into his Soul, hoping to escape the restraint this way. However, something bizarre happened. The fishing line actually followed it inside, remaining wrapped around the Dream Light and Shadow that was now stored within his Soul!
