Chapter 612: Chapter 393: Calling for Backup, Part 3
"I find this truly bizarre..."
Zhou Chen’s arm of solid steel shot out, its hammer-like fist smashing into the fleeing modified woman and shattering all her Matrices. He then manipulated the metal remotely, crushing her brain into a pulp. The woman’s violently struggling body went still.
"Knowing my strength, you still dared to ambush me. Are you that confident, or just that loyal?"
Zhou Chen’s two steel arms shot out and back like rubber springs, his hands transforming into iron hammers. He caught up to the other two modified people, who had fled in separate directions. With one hammer blow for each, he shattered their Matrices, then manipulated the metal to crush them to death.
It all happened in a flash. By the time the two screaming, green-faced imps were twenty meters away, Zhou Chen had already wiped out their allies. Terror flashed across their faces; they tried to stop, but it was too late.
A dreamlike stream of light streaked through the air, slicing the two imps in half. The Purification from the Light of Spiritual left them no chance of reviving, and they turned to ash, scattering in the wind.
The woman performing the bizarre dance spat out a large mouthful of blood, her face visibly paling.
In a flash of fire, Zhou Chen appeared before her and remarked dryly:
"Your dancing is terrible."
"You killed my children!" the woman shrieked venomously. She tried to lunge up and fight for her life, but Zhou Chen kicked her back down.
"Why did you come to kill me?"
"I’ll kill you!" the woman roared madly, struggling to her feet again. Zhou Chen kicked her back down once more, this time with great force. Her head slammed into the ground with a THUD, creating a small crater.
Zhou Chen made a wish in his heart: ’Make this woman too afraid to fight back. Make her answer whatever I ask.’
[Wish Value -100]
He hadn’t opted for direct brainwashing; that would have caused an instant shift in her attitude. ’I’m equipped with a retinal camera and Jiang Che is watching,’ he thought. ’A change that fast would arouse suspicion. But this way, it just looks like I’ve beaten her into submission and she’s too scared to keep lashing out.’
Lying on the ground, the woman answered meekly, her body trembling. "Our... our boss wanted us to delay you for as long as possible... The Skynet system happened to scan you, so we came to intercept you. You’re a dangerous element, and the main culprit behind all this trouble..." She seemed to have finally recognized the vast gap in power between herself and Zhou Chen, and the fear of death now enveloped her.
"Who’s your boss?" Zhou Chen asked.
"Du Guangyuan. He’s the Master’s adopted son."
"Is your Master Dupe?"
"Yes..."
"Where is he now?" Zhou Chen pressed.
"I don’t know..." the woman said in a trembling voice, not daring to get up from the ground.
’So these people are just cannon fodder Dupe is using to buy time.’ Zhou Chen then asked, "Aren’t you afraid of death?"
"Our purpose in life is to serve the Master."
’Sounds like they’ve been brainwashed.’ Zhou Chen had no more questions. He ended it with a sweep of his Long Spear.
"No... don’t kill me..." The woman’s head was separated from her body amidst her terrified pleas.
Just then, Jiang Che’s voice came through his earpiece:
"Stop wasting time on this cannon fodder. Get to Liushan Prison now."
"Right."
Zhou Chen acknowledged, retracted his weapon, and broke into a sprint, moving like a raging hurricane.
Before long, he reached the outskirts of the city and arrived near Liushan Prison.
Then, Zhou Chen saw a scene that stunned him.
An entire army was stationed outside Liushan Prison!
This army was well-equipped, with every soldier armed to the teeth. They even had strategic armaments like tanks. Most importantly, eighty percent of the soldiers were Ascenders, and of those Ascenders, eighty percent were Tier Three!
’I wonder if there are any Tier Four Ascenders hiding among them...’
He hadn’t seen such a stacked lineup even when he was fighting in North Carolina!
Zhou Chen quickly ducked into hiding and drew in a sharp breath. "Hiss... Is this Dupe’s private army?"
"It’s normal. Hai City is Dupe’s main base of operations. It’d be strange if a Grand Councilor of Asia didn’t have this kind of backing," Jiang Che said calmly.
"Then what do we do?" Zhou Chen asked, peeking out carefully. He knew he couldn’t take on an entire army by himself.
Jiang Che offered a simple and brutal solution:
"Call for backup."
