Chapter 626: Chapter 402: The Sealed Time Blade
They were public enemy number one. If they made it to the inner city, Dupe’s forces would never give them an opportunity to place the positioning device. In fact, they might not even let them enter the inner city at all!
"If it’s not you, it’ll be other squads. And if all else fails, there are still the Tier Fours," Zhou Chen said, looking up as more and more floating cars flew toward them.
"Hurry and go. I’ll handle the ones in the sky; you take care of the ones on the ground."
The engines on his Steel Wings roared to life, spewing light and flame and sending out a blast wave. Zhou Chen shot up like a missile, crashing straight into the floating cars in the air.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The floating cars immediately burst into fireballs.
With Zhou Chen’s current mobility and flight capabilities, he could ravage a small country without breaking a sweat. To him, these floating cars moved with tortoise-like slowness and were as fragile as tissue paper, shattering on impact.
With him dominating the sky, the safety of Erin and the others was guaranteed. They advanced unstoppably, avoiding encirclement by the enemy’s swarming tactics.
By the time they fought their way to the Cross-Abyss Bridge, everyone’s crime value had reached 10,000 points, enough to enter the inner city. However, the real test was just beginning.
Ascenders from Dupe’s forces had long been waiting in front of the Cross-Abyss Bridge. They had set up a defensive position, erected barriers, and sealed the entrance layer by layer. The moment Zhou Chen’s group appeared, various automated war machines identified them and opened fire frantically. An endless barrage of bullets rained down on them.
The female Operator with the Ice Ability raised a hand, and a wall of ice shot up from the ground, blocking all the gunfire as ice shards flew everywhere.
"Think of something, quick!" she shouted, her face pale as she chugged an Essence Supplement.
"I’ll try to hack in remotely!" the male Operator with the Tactical Goggles said urgently.
At that moment, Zhou Chen made a wish:
"—Alter the programming. Swap friend for foe!"
[Wish Value -100]
Suddenly, the automated combat weapons, which had been furiously spewing ammunition, ground to a halt. In the next moment, the close-in cannons, automatic machine guns, and auto-grenade launchers... all of them swiveled around, aiming their dark muzzles at the people in the fortifications.
A deafening roar erupted.
A deadly hail of bullets and shells fell upon the fortifications. One figure after another was pulverized into a mist of blood and gore, leaving no corpse behind. Even Ascenders couldn’t withstand the ferocious onslaught of conventional firearms at such close range!
"Nice one!" the female Operator shouted excitedly.
The male Operator wearing the Tactical Goggles was stunned. "I haven’t even hacked in yet!"
"I did it," Zhou Chen admitted.
Wish Value +5, +5, +10...
"How did you do that?" the male Operator asked, shocked.
Zhou Chen didn’t explain, his eyes fixed on the fortifications now shrouded in cannon fire.
Suddenly, a mangled, bloody figure charged out. It was a Tier Three Strength Type Ascender, clad in tattered Alchemy Armor. Only that level of Defense Power could have allowed someone to survive such a saturation bombing.
Zhou Chen was about to make his move when, in the next instant, a brilliant light erupted. A scorching Flaming Dragon Breath Bomb crossed the hundred-meter distance and hit the target square in the head. It burst in a shower of crimson sparks like a firework, taking the figure’s head with it.
A hot shell casing was ejected from the gun, landing with a CLINK. Erin was already reloading with practiced ease, chambering a new round with a sharp CLICK-CLACK.
"You’re not like the rumors say," the female Operator said in surprise.
"Rumors?" Erin tilted her head to look at her.
"A lot of his female fans say you’re some delicate little princess, a two-faced bitch playing innocent." The female Operator pointed at Zhou Chen, then glanced at the dangerous, hard-lined firearm in Erin’s hands and chuckled. "You’re not the least bit delicate."
"Alright, let’s get moving," the male Operator interrupted them.
The group walked into the fortifications and finished off anyone who wasn’t dead with a gunshot each. Then they came to the barrier. To be precise, it was a huge steel wall made of a special alloy, covered with a defensive Alchemy Matrix. It completely sealed the bridge entrance, and even the space above was enveloped by the Matrix.
"Can you get it open?" the male Operator asked, looking at Zhou Chen.
Zhou Chen ran his hand over the alloy wall a few times and shook his head. "The Alchemy Matrix on this is a very high Level. The person who set it up has a mastery of Alchemy approaching that of a Great Sage. I can’t break it."
"Let me." Li Xiye’s voice suddenly sounded in everyone’s ears. A bolt of Cyan Thunder fell from the sky, and she emerged from it, her aura fluctuating wildly as if she had just gone through a fierce battle.
"Why are you so drained?" Zhou Chen frowned, rushing forward to ask with concern.
"I thought there was only one, but another was hiding, waiting to ambush me. Luckily, I discovered it early... Taking on two Tier Fours is still a bit of a stretch. I took them both down, but I was badly injured too." Li Xiye coughed weakly, then shook her arm, clenched her fist, and gathered her strength for a punch against the steel wall.
BANG!
Absolute Will descended. The Defense Array began to self-destruct, suddenly ceasing its operation.
Li Xiye seemed to be seriously injured. She was panting after that one punch. Zhou Chen’s heart ached for her, so he said, "You should rest. I’ll take care of the rest."
He took out his Magic Wand, pointed it at the steel wall, and something magical happened. The steel wall instantly transformed into sand and gravel, collapsing out of thin air.
Zhou Chen flapped his wings, and a hot gust of wind swept away the pile of sand.
A Sheep-headed Demon Statue, identical to the one from before, appeared before them. It opened its eyes, surveyed the group, and said in a deep voice, "Passage granted."
"Should we wait for the others?" a young Operator spoke up. "Since the enemy deployed forces on this side of the bridge, they must have defenses on the other side too. What if there’s another Tier Four..."
"There’s no one over there. I saw it from the sky," Li Xiye said, shaking her head. "Besides, two Tier Fours from the Star Association have already fought their way through, so Dupe and his people haven’t had time to set up defenses there yet."
Their worries eased, the group hurried onto the bridge. However, Li Xiye’s condition was extremely worrying. She couldn’t instantly transport them all, and as she walked, she began to cough violently, spitting up dark red blood.
Erin used her Ability to heal her, but the difference in their Levels was too great. The healing was just a drop in the bucket.
"I’ll be fine after a little rest," Li Xiye said, her voice weak.
"I’ll carry you," Zhou Chen said, then hoisted Li Xiye onto his back so she could rest as much as possible.
Before long, the group came off the Cross-Abyss Bridge. The area had already been reduced to rubble by the battle between High Tier experts. In the distance, they could clearly feel the Essence Fluctuations of combat, a sign of an incredibly fierce fight.
Seeing that they had arrived safely, the three Operators immediately took out their Any Door positioning devices and pressed them. A few seconds later, space began to ripple.
But just as the Any Door was about to appear, space began to tremble violently. A chaotic surge passed through, and the faintly appearing Any Door vanished.
"Dammit!" the male Operator cursed. Someone was interfering with the space.
"Heh. Did you really think you could open an Any Door while making an enemy of a Star Association Grand Councilor? Did you think we’d be stupid enough not to take precautions?"
A scoffing laugh rang out as space rippled. A man exuding the aura of an Uncrowned appeared. He had a square jaw, and his thick eyebrows and large eyes gave him a righteous appearance. His hair was half-white, his beard completely white, but you could still faintly see the handsome features of his youth.
Zhou Chen recognized him as a high-ranking member of the Hai City Wang Family named Wang Shouhao. He had appeared on television many times and had a fairly good public reputation. To think he was cut from the same cloth as Dupe!
"I’ve long heard of the great Tyrant. That previous battle was quite a shock, even for an old man like me. It’s a shame you’re completely spent. I’d love to see how you plan on protecting them now." The man laughed as if victory was already in his grasp.
But in that very instant, Li Xiye, who had been lying gravely injured on Zhou Chen’s back, suddenly vanished!
A brilliant burst of Cyan Thunder erupted, draining all color from the world and plunging heaven and earth into shadow.
Li Xiye’s eyes glinted like cold lightning. Myriad bolts of thunder converged upon her Iron Fist as she threw it forward with unparalleled dominance!
There wasn’t the slightest trace of weakness or exhaustion in that punch! It was so powerful it shattered space itself—an absolutely terrifying sight!
"What!" Wang Shouhao shrieked in shock.
