King Dhritarashtra, meanwhile, slowly turned his head toward the palace entrance.
He had been expecting Devara to be among those waiting to welcome them.
But after a moment, he realized that something was missing.
"Where is Devara?"
Bhishma looked toward Satyavati with an amused expression, as though he already knew the answer.
Before he could say anything, Rajmata Satyavati stepped forward with a small chuckle.
"He has gone to meet his mothers."
Dhritarashtra paused.
"His mothers?"
Satyavati nodded her head.
"Goddess Ganga and Goddess Bhudevi."
There was a brief silence.
Even Dhritarashtra looked slightly surprised.
"He had took this much time to inform them..."
Satyavati smiled.
"Apparently, he felt that such important news should be told to them by him personally."
Bhishma gave a small laugh.
"Knowing Devara, he probably believes they should hear it from him rather than simply knowing it through their divine awareness."
Satyavati nodded.
"Exactly."
She glanced toward the sky.
"Though, between us, I doubt either of them actually needed to be informed. They probably knew Gandhari was pregnant before the Royal Physician even entered the chamber."
A few people laughed.
Gandhari smiled as well.
"That sounds like Devara."
Bhishma shook his head with amusement.
"He has always been like this. Even when dealing with the gods, he insists on doing things his own way."
The children listened to the adults talking about Devara, and the Pandavas exchanged curious looks.
They had already heard from Kunti about his extraordinary childhood and his connection to the gods.
Now they were discovering another side of him.
He was powerful enough to be spoken about like a legend, yet he had personally gone to tell his mothers that he was going to become a father.
Yudhishthira smiled faintly.
"He must really love his family."
Kunti heard him and gently placed her hand on his shoulder.
"He does."
Bhishma looked toward the palace once more.
"Come. Let us go inside. Devara will return soon enough."
The royal families began moving through the gates together, while Gandhari remained beside Madri and Kunti, happily answering their questions about her pregnancy.
And somewhere far from the palace,
Devara was still making his way toward the divine mothers who had given him life, completely unaware that his entire extended family had already arrived and was waiting for him.
Meanwhile, far away from the royal palace of Trivenivrata,
Devara had travelled to the divine domain of his mother Goddess Ganga, carrying news that he considered important enough to tell them personally.
He had visited this place countless times during his childhood, and despite having grown into a king and warrior,
There were certain corners of his mother’s domain that still made him feel like the little boy who used to spend his days here.
He was sitting comfortably on the same broad stone slab where he used to sit whenever he visited his mother as a child,
His legs hanging over the edge as he watched the unusual scene unfolding in front of him.
Goddess Ganga and Goddess Bhudevi were cooking.
Not using their divine powers.
Not creating food with a simple movement of their hands or making an entire feast appear with a snap of their fingers.
They were actually preparing everything themselves.
Ganga was busy working on one dish while Bhudevi was preparing sweets beside her, occasionally tasting what they had made before adding something else.
Their hands were covered with flour, sugar and spices, and the entire place had been filled with the wonderful smell of freshly prepared food.
Devara watched them for a while before finally smiling.
"Mom..."
Neither of them immediately looked at him.
"What?"
Ganga replied while continuing to prepare the food.
Devara looked at Bhudevi.
"Mom..."
Bhudevi also continued what she was doing.
"What is it?"
Devara scratched his cheek.
"Why are both of you cooking like this? You could make all of this appear with your divine energy."
Ganga finally glanced at him.
"We know."
Bhudevi smiled.
"We could probably prepare an entire feast with a thought."
Devara looked at the amount of food they were preparing.
"Then why are you doing it manually?"
Ganga exchanged a knowing look with Bhudevi before answering.
"Because this food isn’t for us."
Devara’s expression softened.
"It is for Gandhari?"
Both mothers nodded.
Bhudevi carefully shaped another sweet before placing it alongside the others.
"She is going to give us a grandchild. Do you really expect us to welcome her with something created by simply snapping our fingers?"
Ganga smiled.
"We want to prepare it ourselves."
Devara looked at the two goddesses.
For beings who could create food effortlessly through divine energy,
There was something strangely touching about watching them stand there and prepare every dish with their own hands simply because their daughter-in-law was carrying their grandchild.
"You two already knew, didn’t you?"
Ganga gave him a sideways glance.
"Of course."
"You knew before the physician confirmed it?"
Bhudevi laughed hearing him.
"Devara, we are your mothers. Did you really think something happening to your family would escape our notice?"
Devara smiled.
"I knew you would know."
"Then why did you come all the way here to tell us?"
Devara’s smile became softer.
"Because I wanted to tell you myself."
That answer made both goddesses pause.
Ganga looked at her son for a moment before smiling warmly.
"Come here."
Devara stood from the stone slab and walked toward her.
Ganga wiped her hands before placing one hand against his cheek.
"You have grown so much, yet sometimes you still behave like that little boy who used to sit on that stone and wait for us to finish cooking."
Devara glanced toward the slab behind him.
"I remember that."
Bhudevi smiled.
"You used to steal the sweets before we finished making them."
Devara looked offended.
"I was hungry."
"You were always hungry."
Ganga laughed.
Devara shook his head.
"I have changed."
Both mothers looked at him.
"Have you?"
He couldn’t help laughing.
The three of them stood together for a moment, surrounded by the smell of sweets and freshly prepared food.
Then Ganga returned to her cooking.
"Go and tell Gandhari that her mothers-in-law are preparing something special for her."
Devara smiled.
"I will."
Bhudevi immediately added,
"And don’t you dare eat any of the sweets before we send them."
Devara looked at the tray.
Then at her.
Then back at the sweets.
"I wasn’t planning to."
Both goddesses stared at him.
Devara raised his hands defensively.
"Fine. I won’t."
He turned away, still smiling.
Behind him, Ganga and Bhudevi exchanged amused looks before returning to their cooking, carefully preparing the food they intended to send to Gandhari.
For all their divine power, neither goddess wanted to use it today.
This wasn’t about displaying what they could do.
It was simply a mother and a mother-in-law preparing food with their own hands for the woman who was about to give them a grandchild.
Soon after, Devara finally said goodbye to his mothers and left Goddess Ganga’s domain.
He made his way toward the surface of the Ganga, swimming through the divine waters until he finally reached the riverbank.
As he emerged from the water, the clothes covering his body were completely soaked, but before he could even take another step, his yogic energy spread around him.
The water clinging to his body and clothes slowly evaporated, leaving him completely dry within moments.
The fishermen who were working along the river noticed him almost immediately.
None of them looked surprised.
For them, their king appearing from the Ganga itself was hardly something worth panicking over anymore.
"Maharaja!"
"Welcome back, Maharaja!"
Devara smiled and raised his hand in greeting.
"How is everything?"
"Everything is well, Maharaja,"
one of the fishermen replied with a grin.
"The celebrations are still going on in the city."
Devara nodded his head.
"I can hear them."
Even from the riverbank, the distant sound of drums, music and cheering could be heard travelling through the air.
The arrival of the Hastinapur royal family had clearly added another wave of excitement to the celebrations already taking place throughout Trivenivrata.
Devara looked toward the direction of the palace.
"Looks like I have kept everyone waiting."
One of the fishermen laughed.
"They have been asking where you went, Maharaja."
Devara chuckled.
"Then I should probably return before they start thinking I have disappeared again."
He placed two fingers between his lips and gave a sharp whistle.
The sound travelled across the river.
For a few moments, nothing happened.
Then the earth beneath them began to tremble slightly.
A distant roar echoed from beyond the riverbank.
The fishermen stepped aside as a magnificent chariot appeared in the distance, racing toward them with astonishing speed.
It was Vajravyaghra Rath, Devara’s divine chariot.
Four enormous divine sabertooth creatures pulled it forward, their massive bodies moving with incredible power as they raced across the ground.
Their fangs gleamed beneath the sunlight while their eyes remained fixed upon their master.
The chariot came to a smooth stop before Devara.
He placed one hand against the side and climbed aboard.
The four divine beasts immediately recognized his presence and settled into position.
Devara took hold of the reins.
"Let’s go."
The moment he gave the command, Vajravyaghra Rath surged forward.
The fishermen watched their king disappear toward the capital, smiling as they returned to their work.
Devara leaned back slightly as the chariot travelled along the road toward the palace.
The closer he came, the louder the sounds became.
Drums. Conches. Music.
The voices of thousands of people celebrating.
Devara smiled.
"So they have finally arrived."
He already knew who had come.
Hastinapur had reached Trivenivrata.
And judging by the noise coming from the palace, his family had probably already begun welcoming them.
Devara’s smile widened as he urged the divine sabertooths forward.
He had one more group of family members to greet.
