Devara slowly stepped forward, putting himself between Kandarpaasura and the people gathered around Surya Dev.

The atmosphere inside the Swayamvara hall had changed completely.

What had been a celebration only moments ago had now become a battlefield waiting to happen, with the darkness still covering the realm and the celestial warriors standing ready for the slightest movement.

Devara stopped only a few steps away from Kandarpaasura and looked directly at him.

"You have entered Surya Lok without an invitation, disrupted the Swayamvara and covered the entire realm in darkness. So tell me, Kandarpaasura, why exactly have you come here?"

Kandarpaasura stared at him for a moment before breaking into laughter.

"Why else would I come?"

His gaze moved across the hall, briefly passing over the other suitors who had gathered for Yami’s Swayamvara.

"I came to participate."

Devara’s expression hardened.

"Participate?"

Kandarpaasura nodded as though there was nothing unusual about his answer.

"I heard that the daughter of Surya Dev was holding a Swayamvara, and I decided that I would also put forward my claim. Surely you aren’t suggesting that I should have ignored such an opportunity simply because I wasn’t personally invited?"

Devara shook his head.

"You weren’t invited for a reason."

Kandarpaasura’s smile faded slightly.

Devara continued as his voice rose.

"Lord Surya invited those he wished to have here. No Asura was invited to participate, and you have made your intentions even clearer by entering this realm through force and plunging it into darkness."

He pointed toward the darkened sky.

"Free Surya Lok from this darkness."

Kandarpaasura remained silent.

"Do it now,"

Devara continued, his voice becoming colder.

"Otherwise, you will soon discover what happens when you cross the line with the wrong people."

For a moment, Kandarpaasura simply stared at him.

Then he laughed again.

Not nervously. Not mockingly.

He genuinely found the threat amusing.

"You speak with confidence."

His eyes narrowed.

"But you still don’t understand what you are dealing with."

Kandarpaasura slowly turned away from Devara and looked toward the Trimurtis.

The laughter disappeared from his face.

He brought his hands together and bowed respectfully.

"Mahadev. Narayana. Brahma Dev. I offer my respects."

The Trimurtis remained silent.

Kandarpaasura straightened.

"I have no intention of disrespecting any of you. In fact, I am following the exact condition given to me by my Guru, Shukracharya, when he granted me my boon."

Lord Vishnu’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Kandarpaasura continued.

"My Guru warned me that the Trimurtis would not interfere in my affairs as long as I did not personally kill any of you or deliberately violate the condition placed upon my boon."

He looked toward the three divine beings.

"And I have no intention of doing so."

The hall remained silent.

"So long as I do not cross that boundary, you cannot simply decide to destroy me because you dislike what I am doing."

Kandarpaasura’s eyes moved across the gathering.

"And that protection works both ways."

His voice became colder.

"If anyone here attacks me first, I will consider that an invitation to respond."

Devara’s eyes narrowed.

Kandarpaasura raised one hand.

The darkness surrounding his fingers began to move.

It twisted around his palm like living smoke.

"I have control over darkness itself."

The shadows beneath everyone’s feet suddenly stretched for several metres before returning to normal.

"If you force me into a fight, I will not simply defend myself."

He looked toward the vast realm outside the hall.

"I will release the darkness across your realms."

A few of the Devas exchanged uneasy glances.

Kandarpaasura continued with a smirk on his face.

"Surya Lok is different. Its very nature allows Surya Dev’s light to resist what I have brought here. That is why this realm has merely been swallowed by darkness."

His smile returned.

"But your realms?"

He slowly shook his head.

"They will not be so fortunate."

The darkness around him grew thicker.

"It will not simply cover your cities. It will seep into everything."

His eyes moved from one Deva to another.

"Into your forests. Into your rivers. Into your mountains. Into your homes. And eventually, into the beings living there."

His voice dropped.

"You won’t even understand what is happening."

A chill passed through the assembly.

"You will simply become weaker."

Kandarpaasura lowered his hand.

"Then weaker."

He smiled as he looked at everyone.

"Then dead."

The threat hung over the hall.

"I won’t need to cut anyone down with a sword. I won’t need to burn your kingdoms. The darkness will do it for me. And if something happens to me, the darkness I have commanded will not simply disappear with my death."

Even Indra’s expression became tense at that statement.

Kandarpaasura looked toward Devara again.

"So, King Devara, before you threaten me with my end, think carefully about what you are willing to risk."

He gestured toward Yami.

"I came here for one purpose. I wish to participate in the Swayamvara."

His eyes settled on the garland that still lay near Yami.

"I am not asking for war."

He smiled faintly.

"I am asking for the same opportunity every other man standing here was given."

Devara’s expression remained completely unmoved.

"You entered this lok without any invite."

Kandarpaasura shrugged.

"I came prepared."

"You threatened an entire realm."

"I demonstrated what would happen if I were prevented from entering."

"And you expect everyone here to simply accept you?"

Kandarpaasura looked directly at him.

"No."

His smile slowly returned.

"I expect everyone here to understand that refusing me may cost far more than allowing me to participate."

The darkness continued to surround the hall.

And for the first time, everyone present understood the true danger.

Kandarpaasura wasn’t merely trying to win Yami’s hand.

He had deliberately placed the entire realm in a position where even stopping him could have catastrophic consequences.

The Swayamvara had become a battlefield without a single weapon being raised.

And the final decision still belonged to Yami.

Meanwhile, Surya Dev had been listening to Kandarpaasura’s words with growing anger.

The sight of his daughter standing only a few steps away, the Swayamvara interrupted and his entire realm drowning in unnatural darkness was becoming more than he was willing to tolerate.

Slowly, Surya Dev pushed himself upright.

Karna immediately noticed the change in his father.

"Father, don’t..."

But Surya Dev had already raised his hand.

A brilliant flash of golden light appeared in his palm, and within moments a magnificent divine axe materialized in his grasp.

Even though the darkness had weakened him, the weapon still radiated a powerful golden glow that briefly pushed the surrounding shadows away.

Surya Dev tightened his grip.

"You have insulted my realm enough."

He took a step forward, clearly intending to confront Kandarpaasura himself.

But before he could even raise the weapon, something strange happened.

The golden radiance surrounding the axe flickered.

Once.... Twice....

Then the divine weapon simply disappeared from Surya Dev’s hand.

The entire hall fell silent.

Surya Dev stared at his empty palm.

Kandarpaasura stared for a moment before throwing his head back and laughing.

"Now you understand!"

His laughter echoed throughout the darkened hall.

"You still haven’t realized what my darkness is doing."

Surya Dev’s expression hardened.

Kandarpaasura pointed toward the darkness surrounding the realm.

"While my darkness covers Surya Lok, the divine energy of those affected by it is being suppressed. You may still possess your divine power somewhere within yourself, but you cannot freely call upon it while my darkness has taken hold of your realm."

His eyes settled on Surya Dev.

"And you are the one suffering the most."

Surya Dev clenched his fist.

Kandarpaasura continued with a cruel smile.

"This is your realm, Surya Dev. Your entire existence is tied to the radiance that fills it. When I extinguish that radiance, I weaken you along with it."

He spread his arms.

"Look around you."

Surya Dev glanced toward the darkened halls.

"The realm that once shone because of you is now unable to produce even a fraction of its former brilliance."

Kandarpaasura laughed again.

"You are the Lord of the Sun standing in darkness, and I am the one deciding how much light you are allowed to keep."

Indra stepped forward angrily.

"Do not mistake our restraint for weakness."

Kandarpaasura turned toward him.

"I don’t."

His smile disappeared.

"That is why I am warning you."

He pointed toward Surya Dev.

"If you attack me while this darkness remains, you will be fighting with only a fraction of what you normally possess."

His gaze moved across the assembly.

"And if the others attempt to interfere, the same suppression will affect them."

The Trimurtis remained silent, watching the situation carefully.

Kandarpaasura then looked toward Devara.

"But you..."

He smiled.

"You seem different."

Devara’s expression remained calm.

Kandarpaasura’s eyes narrowed.

"The darkness has not affected you in the same way."

Devara said nothing.

Kandarpaasura studied him for another moment before chuckling.

"Interesting."

He looked back toward Yami.

"But that changes nothing."

His voice became firm.

"I came here for the Swayamvara. I will participate."

Surya Dev looked toward his daughter, anger and helplessness visible in his eyes.

Yami stood silently, still holding herself together despite everything that had happened.

The darkness continued to spread outside.

The divine armies remained stationed around the realm.

And Kandarpaasura stood in the middle of Surya Lok, completely confident that he had placed everyone in a position where attacking him could be more dangerous than allowing him to remain.

For the moment, the darkness belonged to him.
