Seeing Yami finally walking toward him, Devara’s stern expression softened immediately.
The tension that had remained within him throughout the contest seemed to disappear the moment his eyes met hers.
A warm smile spread across his face as he lowered Pinakodanda and, with a simple thought, caused the divine bow to dissolve into radiant particles of golden light before vanishing completely from his hand.
Yami stopped only a step away from him.
For a brief moment, neither of them said anything.
She simply looked at him, her eyes moving over his body as though making certain for herself that he was truly unharmed.
Devara understood what she was doing and smiled even more.
Before she could say anything, he opened his arms and pulled her into an embrace.
Yami immediately wrapped her arms around him.
All the fear she had kept buried during the contest finally escaped her in that single moment.
She rested her head against his shoulder and closed her eyes, a peaceful smile appearing upon her face as she felt his arms around her.
Devara gently held her, one hand resting against her back while the other remained around her shoulders as he whispered.
"You were worried,"
Yami smiled against his shoulder.
"Of course I was. You were fighting a creature that could tear apart armies, and you expected me to simply stand there and watch without worrying?"
Devara gave a quiet laugh.
"I knew I would be fine."
"I know,"
Yami replied softly, lifting her head slightly.
"That does not mean my heart knows it."
Devara looked into her eyes for a moment, and there was something tender in his expression.
He understood then that Yami’s fear had never come from doubting his strength.
It had come from caring too much about what might happen to him.
"I am here,"
He said reassuringly to Yami.
Yami smiled back at the man she loved all these years.
"I can see that."
The two remained together for another moment before finally parting.
Yami’s hand lingered against Devara’s arm as she stepped back, still smiling at him.
Around them, the gathered gods watched quietly, some amused by the tenderness of the moment, while others simply seemed relieved that the dangerous contest had finally ended without either of them being lost.
Not everyone, however, shared their happiness.
A short distance away stood Kandarpaasura.
His entire body had become covered in darkness.
The blackness did not merely surround him like a cloak.
It clung to his skin, crawling over his arms, chest and face like living shadows.
Yet despite the rage burning inside him, he did not raise his eyes toward Devara.
He remembered the condition he himself had accepted.
The loser would bear a curse.
And if the loser and the winner ever met face-to-face again, the loser would die, his head exploding into a hundred pieces.
Kandarpaasura had willingly accepted those terms.
Now that Devara had won, the curse belonged to him.
He dared not even look directly at Devara.
The realization seemed to weigh upon him more heavily than any wound he had suffered during the contest.
His pride wanted him to roar, challenge the gods and refuse the result, but another part of him understood the consequence of his own decision.
He had entered the contest believing victory was already within his grasp.
Now he stood defeated.
Lord Shiva stepped forward.
Kandarpaasura sensed his presence and finally turned slightly toward him, though he still kept his face angled away from Devara.
"You have lost the contest,"
Shiva said calmly.
"The conditions were accepted by both sides, and the result cannot be denied."
Kandarpaasura’s fists tightened, but he said nothing.
Shiva raised one hand.
A powerful current of divine energy gathered around his palm.
Before Kandarpaasura could react, the space around him began to twist, forming a luminous portal through which the dark realm of Patala Lok could be seen.
"Return to the realm from which you came."
Kandarpaasura’s body was immediately surrounded by the force of Shiva’s divine power.
He tried to resist for a moment, darkness surging violently around him, but Shiva’s power simply overwhelmed it.
The asura was lifted from the ground and drawn backward toward the portal.
His eyes remained lowered.
He never looked at Devara.
With one final movement of Shiva’s hand, Kandarpaasura was sent through the portal.
The darkness surrounding him vanished into the opening, and a moment later the portal closed completely.
Silence returned to the battlefield.
Devara watched the place where Kandarpaasura had disappeared for a few seconds before turning away.
The duel was over.
The curse had been accepted.
The loser had returned to Patala Lok.
And beside him stood Yami, no longer watching him from a distance in fear, but standing freely at his side.
For the first time since Kandarpaasura had plunged Surya Lok into darkness, the realm could finally breathe again.
With Kandarpaasura gone and the contest finally concluded, Devara turned toward Yami and then toward her family.
Surya Dev, Chaya, Yama, Dhumorna, Shani, Neelima, Dhammini and the rest of Yami’s siblings had already gathered nearby, their expressions reflecting the relief that had settled over Surya Lok now that the threat of Kandarpaasura had been removed.
Devara approached them with a warm smile before looking toward Surya Dev.
"Father, I believe it is time we return to my kingdom,"
Devara said respectfully.
"The Swayamvara has concluded, and Yami has chosen me. Her wedding should take place there, among my family and my people."
Surya Dev smiled at his words.
There was still much for him to process.
Only hours earlier, his realm had been swallowed by darkness, his own divine power suppressed, and his daughter had stood in the middle of a terrifying confrontation.
Yet now that danger had passed, another Chapter was beginning.
"You are right, Devara,"
Surya Dev replied with a smile.
"Take her home. We shall follow."
Yami glanced toward her father and mother before looking back at Devara.
A faint blush returned to her cheeks at the thought of what he had just said so casually.
She was no longer merely the daughter of Surya Dev who had held a Swayamvara.
She was now the woman who had chosen Devara as her husband, and soon she would be entering his kingdom as its queen.
Devara lifted his hand and gave a small whistle.
Almost immediately, the heavens above them seemed to respond.
A distant celestial rumble grew louder as the Pushpaka Vimana appeared through the clouds, descending gracefully toward the gathering. Its magnificent golden structure reflected the radiance of Surya Lok, while its celestial mechanisms hummed softly as it came to a smooth halt before Devara.
Yami looked up at it with fascination as she asked.
"So this is the Pushpaka Vimana?"
Devara smiled.
"The very same one."
He extended his hand toward her.
"Come."
Yami placed her hand in his, and Devara gently guided her toward the Vimana.
He helped her aboard before turning back toward her family and gesturing for them to follow.
Surya Dev and Chaya entered first, followed by Yama and Dhumorna, while Shani and his wives joined them along with the rest of Yami’s family.
As everyone began boarding, Indra stood a little distance away, watching the magnificent Vimana with an amused expression.
A quiet chuckle escaped him.
The sight brought back memories that were far less pleasant than the peaceful scene before him.
Indra knew that Pushpaka Vimana very well.
Once, it had belonged to one of the most terrible enemies the gods had ever faced.
The very sight of it had once been associated with fear, destruction and the rise of an arrogant ruler who had challenged the heavens themselves.
And now that same celestial Vimana stood peacefully in Surya Lok, waiting to carry Devara and his bride home.
Indra shook his head with another quiet laugh as he murmured.
"How strange the worlds can be,"
The vehicle that had once carried one of his greatest enemies was now carrying Devara, the man who had defeated another terrible threat, along with the very woman whose Swayamvara had nearly plunged Surya Lok into eternal darkness.
Inside the Vimana, Yami moved toward one of the openings and looked back at the gathered gods.
Her eyes briefly met Indra’s.
Indra simply smiled.
Devara stepped aboard beside her, and the doors of the Pushpaka Vimana closed.
Moments later, the celestial craft rose into the heavens.
As it climbed higher, Yami stood beside Devara and watched Surya Lok slowly become smaller beneath them.
Devara remained at her side, while behind them her parents and siblings settled into the luxurious chambers of the Vimana.
Their destination was no longer merely a celestial gathering.
They were returning to Devara’s kingdom.
And there, preparations for their wedding would begin.
As the Pushpaka Vimana disappeared into the distance, Surya Dev remained standing where he was, watching the fading trail of celestial light left behind by the departing craft.
For a while, he said nothing.
Then a quiet chuckle escaped him, and he slowly shook his head as though even he could hardly believe the turn of events.
"I never thought my daughter’s marriage would take place in Bhulok,"
He muttered, a mixture of amusement and disbelief in his voice.
"Of all the places in creation, my little Yami is going to be married in Bhulok."
Sandhya, standing beside him, smiled warmly and placed a comforting hand upon his arm.
Chaya stood on his other side and gently touched his shoulder.
"She is not being taken away from you,"
Sandhya said softly.
"She is simply beginning a new part of her life."
Surya Dev sighed, though a smile remained on his face.
"I know. I know that better than anyone. But still..."
He looked toward the horizon once more.
"She has always been my little princess."
