Chapter 178: Chapter 178
Darkness.
All Tempest could see was darkness. She blinked her eyes a few times as she slowly woke up from her restful sleep.
At first she thought she was still outside in the canyon with Gerax, Aliq, and Rynax, but then she tried to move. Tried and failed.
Panic ripped through her body as she slowly started to remember what had happened the last time she was awake.
She remembered them all walking. She remembered Rynax still being pissed with her and stay far behind them. She remembered Aliq and Gerax’s mindless conversations. And she also remembered the ambush.
People had seemed to come out of nowhere, descending down from the sides of the mountains and coming from around the corner.
None of them had realized what was happening until it was too late. Tempest assumed that was the whole point of an ambush.
Tempest blinked a few times but the darkness persisted. This time she realized there was a cloth over her eyes. She was blindfolded.
Next she tried to scream. Her efforts were in vain.
Something was over her mouth too. She started to worry that whatever it was had been put over her all face. She inhaled through her nose and was relieved to feel the air pass through her nostrils freely. At least she knew that she could breathe.
She jerked up and realized that most of her upper body was free but her wrist and elbows were bound down.
She laid back down and tried to take stock of her situation. She was captured by people she didn’t know. She was separated from the people that were supposed to protect her and she couldn’t even talk to anyone to try and figure out what was going on.
Tempest knew there was nothing she could do to control the situation, but maybe she could get more information. Try and figure out where she was and who had done this to them.
She quieted her breathing as best she could, she knew her body was tied down but she could still twist around. She twisted her hands and could feel the binds on her skin. What initially stood out to Tempest was the differences that she could feel in these restraints compared to the restraints she’d felt when she was first abducted to the planet.
The first ones were smooth and strong, but the ones on her wrist now were rough and felt like they were patched together. Whoever had her captive weren’t the same people who had abducted her the first time.
Before she had a chance to continue thinking she heard something like a squeaky door open and close.
Nothing happened after that.
Tempest breathed heavily, waiting for whoever or whatever had just walked in the room to start talking or grunting or whatever they were going to do.
After what felt like forever, Tempest couldn’t wait any longer. "Hello? Is someone there. English!" She spoke loudly and slowly, though her words were muffled and barely audible due to the gag around her face.
"Well I be God damned," The person, a woman said and quickly removed the gag from Tempest’s mouth.
It took Tempest all of a microsecond to realize that the woman was a human. She said god damned, not moon goddess or something of that nature. This woman was from earth.
"You’re human! I can hear it. Get this crap off me." Tempest wiggled again and tried to get up from the spot where she was tied down.
"Hold your horses." The woman said and then Tempest could feel whatever was around her eyes come off and she blinked at tried to take in the scene around her. She was in a dark room, pipes snaked the ceiling and she noticed that there was hand crafted furniture even the table that she was on seemed to be pieces of metal welded together. These people definitely didn’t have the same technology that Tempest had been used to seeing.
"I can’t let you up just yet. I have some questions to ask."
"I’m not answering anything you ask." Tempest snarled at the woman. She looked up now and could see the woman holding her captive clearly.
She looked as if she was hispanic. She had a natural tan skin tone, her hair was tied back but there were a couple of strands of curly hair that framed her face and laid against her neck.
"If you don’t answer me, the rest will kill you. There’s no negotiating that. I’m sorry."
Tempest gasped. The response was so final. "Why? I’ve done nothing to you."
"No, at least not that we know of but you were with them. Those devils. Monsters. How could you? All that we can guess is that you are brainwashed in some way. Do you even know where you are?"
Tempest was starting to understand. This woman wasn’t looking at her like she was another human she was looking at Tempest like she was the enemy.
"No, I’m not brainwashed. I’m on the planet of Ustea and right now I’m in a place called Skoq. Can I ask you a question now?"
The woman nodded her head slowly. It was natural. Tempest was relieved. She didn’t have to explain what her mannerisms meant; she didn’t have to endure the funny looks when she said an idiom or something like that. She was just understood.
"What’s your name? Where are you from?"
"My name is Minnie, I’m from brazil."
"Brazil... I always wanted to go there." Tempest said and tilted her head as if she were thinking about a time when she would just toss all her cares to the wind and hop on a plane to the exotic country.
It was laughable.
"Unfortunately, none of us will get to go there." Minnie sighed and looked away.
Tempest sighed as well before she cleared her throat. "I promise you I’m not a threat. I came here specifically looking for the human settlement." She nodded her head and watched as Minnie’s eyebrows furrowed in. Apparently, that’s not what she wanted Tempest to say.
"Why? If you are so safe with those monsters that brought you in, then why would you come here looking for refuge?"
"I’m not here for refuge...just ...I was told that I was the only human on this planet that wasn’t dead or left to die in the wilderness. I came here because of curiosity." Tempest continued.
"Curiosity killed the cat."
"Thankfully I’m not a cat." Tempest lifted her chin as best she could.
"Won’t stop you from being killed."
"Is that really the solution to everything?" Tempest huffed.
"Yes, I’m surprised you haven’t figured that out yet. What do I call you anyway?"
"I’m Tempest, I’m from California."
"Ah... Hollywood. That’s probably why you think this is going to have a happy ending. I’m from the favelas. I know what happens in situations like this." Minnie scoffed.
"Really, you’ve been part of an alien abduction before?" Tempest raised an eyebrow at the woman.
"No. Don’t be ridiculous. I’m talking about when there are several more powerful groups all wanting the same area or the same people. They can wipe us off the map."
"That’s not what I’m here for. I don’t want that to happen any more than you do."
"And what about the aliens that have come with you? What is to stop them from going back wherever you’re from and letting everyone know that we are here unprotected?"
"Unprotected? If my memory serves me correctly, You were more than just a little protected. You took two of the strongest alpha males I’d ever come across out within seconds. That’s not a simple thing."
Minnie smiled a little at that as if she were proud. "Yeah, I guess you’re right about that. They underestimated us. I doubt they’ll do that again."
"They didn’t underestimate you. They didn’t come here to fight. Truly you have to believe me. We aren’t here to cause you harm." Tempest tried her hardest to sound as sincere as she could.
She didn’t mean to cause them harm but she knew if she didn’t get a handle on this situation soon it could turn into a real blood bath. Sooner or later, Mexyn would look up and realize that she hadn’t heard from anyone is quite a while and she would send Crilium and the rest of the stronghold over here.
Dron would come.
It would be bad.
"If you say so." Minnie shrugged a shoulder and turned as if she were about to walk out of the space.
"Wait. You can’t leave me in here. What about my friends? What about the people I came in here with? Are they okay?" Tempest tried again to lean up, but the restraints were still tight on her body.
"I believe you, Tempest, but that still doesn’t mean it’s okay for strangers to be walking around the compound. We have to figure out what to do with you."
"You can let us go." Tempest shot out.
"I don’t know if that’s going to be possible. I’ll do the best I can. It’s really not up to me." She took another step toward the door before she looked over her shoulder and spoke, "I’ll reunite you with the other monsters. If I were you, I’d tell them to be on their best behavior."
Tempest nearly chuckled at that instruction. Trying to get Rynax to be on his best behavior was going to be a hard task.
Still, if it meant they’d get out of there together and in one piece, she’d do her very best.
