Chapter 164: Chapter 164: Zen-Whoberi

"Yes, real aliens," Jack said with a nod.

"It looks like we got thrown onto an alien planet," Gwen said, worry in her voice.

Jack nodded slowly, staring at the strange settlement below. By now, he was certain this wasn’t Earth, and the thought immediately turned into worry about Emma and Morgan.

If we’re here... then where did those two end up?

He could only hope they’d landed somewhere on Earth. Even if they had been thrown into a different time, at least they’d be on a planet they knew, surrounded by people and technology they could understand. But if Emma and Morgan had been thrown onto some unknown alien world too, Jack didn’t want to think about what they might be facing all alone.

"Let’s just hope they landed on Earth," Gwen said quietly.

"Yeah," Jack replied, his eyes still fixed on the live image as he tried to think about where they could have ended up.

"They look exactly like humans, just green," Gwen said, watching the aliens on the screen with open curiosity. "I figured aliens would all be like the ones you transform into—different shapes, sizes, weird abilities, and all that. But other than the skin color, they don’t look that different from us."

"There’s definitely going to be a huge range of alien species out there in the universe," Jack said. "But right now, we’re the aliens to them too." He joked, trying to make the situation feel a little less tense.

Gwen nodded, still staring at the screen.

"So what’s the plan? Any idea how we get back to Earth?" she asked.

"First, we should figure out exactly what’s going on with this planet. But revealing ourselves before we understand the situation isn’t smart. What if they’re hostile toward outsiders? So you wait here. I’ll go in and check things out first," Jack said, already rotating the Omnitrix to select Skrull.

Katcha.

A flash of green light surrounded Jack, making Gwen instinctively shut her eyes. When she opened them again, Jack was no longer human. His body had transformed into the green-skinned Skrull form he had stored in the Omnitrix.

The only alien from this universe I currently have, Jack thought, looking down at himself.

Gwen looked at the aliens on the live feed again before glancing back at Jack.

"Can you mimic aliens too, not just humans?" Gwen asked, watching Jack in his Skrull form. She had only seen him use this alien to copy human appearances before.

Jack looked at the screen showing the green-skinned locals. His Skrull body suddenly began to shift. His skin, face, and entire body changed shape until, within seconds, he looked almost exactly like one of the aliens from the footage.

Gwen was a little surprised to see the transformation.

"Yeah. Even though it was my first time, I succeeded," Jack said, looking over his new appearance with some satisfaction. "That’s going to make this a lot easier."

He told Gwen to stay hidden and wait for him while he headed toward the town. Once he was close enough, Jack activated the stealth function of his Plumber suit and slipped inside without attracting attention. After reaching a quieter area, he deactivated the suit and continued on foot, blending into the crowd like he belonged there.

The streets were busier than they had looked from above. Green-skinned people walked along the roads in strange clothing, talking to each other, carrying bags, entering shops, and going about their daily lives. The buildings around him were old but well maintained, and the whole place gave Jack the strange feeling of walking through some old town from another era.

As he moved through the crowd, trying to take in everything without drawing attention to himself, the Omnitrix suddenly chimed.

[New species detected. Do you wish to add to database?]

Jack immediately said yes, and the Omnitrix logged the new species into its database.

[Zehoberei DNA acquired. Transformation available.]

"Zehoberei? Is this the name of these people?" Jack muttered.

As he continued walking through the streets, he soon realized he could actually understand what the aliens around him were saying.

Wait, does this planet also just speak English? Or, like some people used to joke about in my past life, does the whole Marvel universe just speak English?

Jack glanced at the signs and other written text around him. The strange symbols should have been completely unreadable, but somehow he could understand them too.

Right, I completely forgot the Omnitrix has a universal translator built in. It lets me understand other languages, and apparently, it can translate writing too.

That’s why I can understand them so easily.

Jack focused on investigating and learning whatever he could without attracting attention. He only had a limited amount of time before his transformation timed out, so he needed to make the most of it.

I keep feeling like I’ve seen this species somewhere before, but I can’t place it...

He listened to conversations around him and asked a few people some casual questions without making them suspicious. After some investigation, he managed to piece together a few basic details about the place. Since he could only remain transformed for twenty minutes before needing a one-minute recharge, he eventually had to find a hidden spot and transform again.

"When is my Omnitrix going to remove this time limit? Even Emma’s Omnitrix doesn’t have this problem," Jack complained.

After several trips into the town, he had managed to learn some basic information about the planet.

The planet was called Zen-Whoberi, and its people were known as Zehoberei. Physically, they seemed fairly similar to humans. Jack couldn’t see any obvious special abilities, though he suspected they were probably stronger and more agile than humans. They also had a developed civilization, though this place was more like an old town than a major city, so it wasn’t a particularly advanced part of the planet.

One thing that caught his attention was that the Zehoberei were already familiar with the wider universe. Apparently, space pirates had attacked the planet in the past, so the existence of aliens and other civilizations wasn’t anything unusual to them.

Beyond that, Jack didn’t have enough time to learn much more without making people suspicious. He still had no idea how powerful the government was, who actually controlled the planet, or what kind of military they had.

Wait... Thanos’s adopted daughter was green too, right?

Jack suddenly thought of Gamora.

One of Thanos’s daughters... wasn’t she a Zehoberei? I don’t remember her species name or anything, but she was green, and these people are green too.

No, they really do look the same. I think I just didn’t recognize them because Gamora was a trained warrior, while everyone I’ve seen here so far is just a normal civilian. But now that I think about it... there’s no doubt. She must be a Zehoberei.

Thinking of Gamora made him remember her backstory.

Gamora was taken by Thanos when she was a child and later trained into one of his most dangerous assassins.

Then another memory surfaced, and Jack’s mood immediately darkened.

He remembered the scene from the movie he’d watched years ago. Thanos had arrived on Gamora’s planet and wiped out half of its population, with Gamora’s mother among the dead, before taking Gamora away and raising her himself.

But there was no sign of anything like that here.

The people were going about their normal lives, and nobody seemed to know anything about an attack that had killed half the planet’s population.

So I must be somewhere before that happened.

The problem was, Jack had no idea how far before.

Seeing that his transformation was about to time out again, Jack decided he’d learned enough for now. Staying any longer could risk exposing himself, so he wrapped up his investigation and quietly made his way out of the town.

When he returned to Gwen, he told her everything he’d found, leaving out anything about his knowledge of the planet’s future and what he suspected about Thanos.

"So, since they were attacked by space pirates, they must have spaceships, right? Maybe they got some from the pirates, or at least have some way to travel into space?" Gwen asked.

"Yeah. That’s what I’m thinking too," Jack said. "Let’s head toward the capital and find out. For now, we should avoid exposing ourselves. As these Zehoberei aren’t very welcoming toward outsiders because of those pirate attacks, showing up as aliens from Another Planet might not be the best idea."

Gwen nodded, and the two of them left the area, flying toward the direction of the planet’s capital.
