Chapter 163: Chapter 163: A World Beyond Earth

The endless tunnel was filled with raging blue temporal energy. Countless streams of light rushed past at impossible speeds, while fragments of different places and eras flashed through the tunnel for brief moments before disappearing. The violent current twisted and shifted constantly, blue energy crackling through the darkness like a raging storm.

Jack had just watched Emma and Morgan get thrown out of the time tunnel, and he desperately wanted to follow them, but the force kept pulling him and Gwen in the opposite direction. No matter how hard he fought against it, he had no real understanding of Clockwork’s powers and was only using them through instinct, leaving him with no way to control the current. Scenes of different places and eras rushed past him faster and faster until, suddenly, he and Gwen were thrown out of the tunnel too.

They landed hard in the middle of a vast, empty plain. Somehow, Jack managed to keep hold of Gwen and land safely instead of letting them fall from the sky.

[Temporal anomaly cleared.]

[Emergency Protocol completed.]

[Restricted DNA synchronization terminated.]

[Emergency transformation ended.]

As the final notification faded from the Omnitrix display, Jack’s Clockwork form dissolved into green light, returning him to his human body. The moment the transformation ended, Jack immediately geared up in his Plumber suit and scanned the surroundings with caution. Gwen, still in her Spider-Suit, only now seemed to realize that their surroundings had changed. Clockwork’s powers had completely frozen her in time while they were inside the tunnel, so she hadn’t experienced the time machine’s blast or anything that happened afterward. As far as she knew, one moment they had been caught in the tunnel, and the next they were here.

"Jack, what happened? Where are we? Where are Emma and Morgan?" Gwen asked anxiously, staring out at the endless plain.

Fck. Fck.

How did this happen? I should’ve been more careful.

Realizing he couldn’t contact or locate Emma either, Jack immediately blamed himself. He should’ve been more cautious and taken more precautions. None of this should’ve happened. The thought of what could’ve happened if the Omnitrix hadn’t intervened, and that they might not have survived the tunnel at all, made his heart go cold.

"Jack, I’m asking you what happened," Gwen said, shaking him when he didn’t answer.

"We got caught in that time machine’s effect and were thrown into the time tunnel," Jack said, giving his best guess.

"We shouldn’t have brought Emma and Morgan with us," Gwen said, guilt creeping into her voice.

Jack could see the guilt in her eyes and pulled her into a hug. Gwen immediately wrapped her arms around him, holding him tightly. For a few moments, neither of them said anything. Jack needed the hug just as much as she did. He had been trying to stay calm for Gwen, but deep down, he had been terrified that he might have lost her in the tunnel too.

"We’ll find them," Jack said quietly, holding her close. "They’re going to be fine."

Gwen took a deep breath and slowly calmed down in his arms. After a moment, she pulled back and looked at him.

"Yeah... those two aren’t ordinary kids. They’ll be fine."

"Redqueen, can you connect to any network or satellite? Do you know where we are?"

"No, I can’t detect any signal or electronic activity nearby."

Hearing that confirmed one thing for Jack. Wherever they’d landed, they definitely weren’t in their own time.

"This has to be some point in the past. Let’s move, find people, and figure out what’s going on," Jack said, scooping Gwen up and flying down from the mountain in the direction of lower ground.

"Jack, are you sure? This doesn’t feel like some ancient past to me. Look at these plants. They’re nothing like anything I recognize," Gwen said, looking down at the strange vegetation below.

The plants weren’t completely different from anything they’d seen on Earth. There were trees with wide trunks, bushes covered in thick green leaves, and patches of grass stretching across the land. But mixed among them were strange plants Jack had never seen before, some with unusually large leaves and others with bright-colored flowers growing along their stems.

They had only flown a few kilometers when the plains slowly gave way to a dense forest. The trees grew closer together, their branches spreading over the ground and blocking much of the sunlight below. Strange birds flew between the branches, while small creatures darted through the grass whenever their shadows passed overhead.

Then something much larger moved between the trees.

Jack and Gwen both looked down.

They froze.

A huge creature stepped out from between the trees. Its body was covered in rough scales, and it walked on four powerful legs, its long tail dragging behind it.

For a moment, neither of them said anything.

"...Is that a dinosaur?" Gwen asked, staring at the creature in disbelief

Please don’t tell me we actually landed in some prehistoric era.

Jack was almost sure it wasn’t a dinosaur, but this was the Marvel Universe, so he couldn’t be completely certain. He barely knew anything about its prehistoric Earth, if it even existed.

"Master, after analyzing the environment, gravity, and other factors, my database puts the probability of this being Earth at under seventy percent," Redqueen reported, breaking her silence since they’d landed.

Jack frowned as he looked around again. Everything looked strangely familiar, yet at the same time, nothing quite matched Earth.

If this is Earth, is this really the prehistoric past? Or did we end up somewhere completely different?

Turning those thoughts over in his head, Jack continued flying with Gwen. They passed more strange animals, some resembling creatures from Earth’s past, while others looked almost normal apart from small differences in their appearance. Birds flew overhead, and unfamiliar trees stretched across the landscape as far as they could see.

Eventually, Jack spotted something in the distance.

Buildings.

"That’s good. At least this isn’t some savage, uninhabited world," Jack said, his voice carrying a little relief.

Gwen was still trying to process everything that had happened. After flying for more than half an hour, the two finally saw a city in the distance.

"Jack, look! A city!"

From this distance, the buildings looked surprisingly familiar, almost like something from the twentieth century.

Still, Jack didn’t fly straight toward it.

After everything that had gone wrong, he wasn’t willing to take another risk.

"Let’s check it out first."

He sent a handful of nanobots ahead, keeping them low as they moved toward the city.

The footage came through moments later.

Jack stared at the images.

Even though both of them had already prepared themselves for something strange, seeing it for real still left them stunned.

The streets were filled with people.

But they weren’t human.

They had human-like bodies, walked on two legs, and wore ordinary-looking clothes, but their skin was completely green.

Gwen stared at the screen for a few seconds before slowly looking at Jack.

"Those are actual aliens... right?"
